Merge east/west

General Discussion
Can we please merge east/west severs as it would help the player base and there is only 2 hours between them anyway ... wc3 in america is really inactive :((
i agree ^^
Would be amazing but its probably a lot of work and the classic team seems pretty busy.

I know SC:R has global matchmaking, that could possibly happen before they merge east and west, but its more or less the same goal.
If they combine east and west , which latency will the new server use ? The East or the West latency !? West got higher Latency than East especially for people playing from Asia - Europe or outside the United States

I am not very familiar with everything that happened in SC:R. Do people stay on their main battle.net regional servers and still get matched globally?

How does SC:R handle the latency issue? Do they have multiple bots around the globe to try and give best host to both players? Or is one of the regional servers chosen as the host? Are the ladders global or still regional?

If it were realistically possible for the classic team to take this on (obviously its technically possible), I just can't even imagine how much it would revive wc3 if we had global matching for great search times in all game types at all hours of the day no matter what region you were in.

Perhaps people could set their maximum tolerated latency in the options. So then you sort of have the choice. Guaranteed lower latency, but longer search times until someone in your region is found for a game - or higher latency and very fast search times.

I personally am fairly used to 150-250 ping from playing on Northrend and W3arena for the last few years. On arena, with the game's built-in latency removed, it almost felt like standard BNET level latency from back in the day when I was on the university network sharing internet with thousands of people constantly downloading pornography (not amazing, but playable and enjoyable).
A dev response from 2017:

They say that since 4 classic games share the realms, each game would have to be patched. There is a large time investment and risk.
I'll pass. The merge would just make everyone have accounts like MewiUSEast and charnames would be a huge issue with Diablo 2, they'd probably remove the uniqueness of those names allowing people to name their chars whatever they want.
latency can be solved.

Basically, you play on east/west/eu/asia/korea and you can match vs anyone in the world. The AMM tries to match you in your area first if it can, for ping reasons. You can also go on the asia gateway with your useast account, it's not restricted to one gateway anymore. Literally, the only thing that gateways do in SC:R is separate chat channels. Even custom games are global.

Games are P2P, unlike wc3 which uses servers, and delay is dynamic: it varies depending on the ping of both players so it keeps the game fair. You play across the globe? Expect big latency. Both players are from useast? Expect best latency. In that way, it's fair for everyone.

if they do the same system, i sure it will work well and theyll be able to retighten the match ranges a little bit to avoid top players from playing the bottom players/new accounts. I'd be very comfortable playing with west/europe players as a useast player, theres no significant ping difference. Asia is a bit scarier since i get 200ms (while eu is 100ms), but in a last resort ill play it.
no

latency can be solved.

If it can be solved , why they did not solve it the past 20 years ? People are still getting Double high ping playing realm out of their location !

The only noobs belong to a brainwashed religious cult lol you european kids are dumber than a bag of hammers.
one of their reasons for not merging was because if you have the same account name as someone else on a different server someone will lose their account.. I think its an easy fix (like adding a prefix) but i'm not a dev.. Hope they can merge and do cross realm eventually like sc:rm as mentioned before.

Calling people dumb without argument doesnt make you smarter - infact it proves you´re dumb-
Its a good idea to merge east/west for w3 and d2. reset all names so players dont name hog/name camp- which they have the system to do now.
Agreed with OP. I'm in Australia and play on USWest and can confirm that Warcraft 3 runs perfectly fine at 200 ping.

Finding a damn game is more of a problem, and combining East & West into an Americas region like modern Blizzard games already have, would be ideal.
This would be good, account names are not even that big of a deal. I’d rather have a bigger community than a really cool account name
Dont let them ruin this game even more . .
