Diablo 1 Battle.net not working

General Discussion
Sorry to create a new topic, but the forums I found were already locked with no real answer, only conjecture...

Just fired up Diablo for the first time in years, I used to love this game so much. I was going to show it to a friend and team up on some random dungeons but I encountered the same message everyone is complaining about - a UDP port not open. After toying with the firewall to no avail, I went through all these forums and I guess I am concluding that the servers are dead.

But what's confusing for me is when I log into the chat it says there are 1161 players currently online playing in 5 games. So... Is that some dormant errant message or are there some elite boss players out there having the time of their lives laughing at the poor slobs than cannot get this to work?

Thanks for any help.

So... why you create this not a support?
sorry to here about your d1 issues :(

diablo 1 online is no longer supported

ya i know i died a little and vouch i had tears too :( its truly an end of an era

bliz is doing cost cutting measures because if you did not know this the company is not doing well
the servers is still online but, blizzard no longer provides support for diablo 1. the community however might still try to help. the thing is that diablo 1 can not analyse modern high speed connections and as such, it thinks that your connection is too slow. you need to find a way to trick diablo into thinking that your connection is good enough.
I truly wish they would invest time and fix this issue.
They said they'd look at D1 after WarR and D2 are where they want them.

Because if you go to the support area, they have no support path for Diablo 1 or Diablo 2.

I noticed a couple of people in the chat area but they didn't respond. Hoping someone in the community that knows how to get it to work will respond to this thread. I would be interested in your fix if you could point me in a direction of how to trick the game into thinking my connection is good enough. I have no idea how.

Right on, but I wonder how long this has been broken? Some of those threads are 6 months old.

I'm really surprised about this altogether. If there was a way to just play with your friends with a direct connection over the internet, even that would be great. The multiplayer aspect to this game was just amazing. This is all just strange. I'm starting to agree that there must be some problems at Blizzard. It's a shame. I cannot imagine keeping at least a single host up for the fans could be that much trouble. I run a BBS in my closet for free and I'm not even a big gaming company. No one seems to care anymore and I'm not upset, just disappointed.

It's not strange at all, it's a game they haven't officially supported in quite some time. They've got the classic games team working on remasters so I doubt they have spare time, and I also doubt many people out there would want to spend time fixing something like this outside of work hours (I mean, no matter how much you care about your job surely you'd rather go enjoy your hobbies or socialise when your workday finishes?). Could also be they no longer have people working there who know how to fix it, which would mean extra time needed in order to figure it out.
