What does the [x] mean in the Hearthstone card text?

API Discussion
I couldn't figure out the pattern on why some cards have an [x] in the beginning of their card text.

For example Kirin Tor Mage has card text of
[x]<b>Battlecry:</b> The next <b>Secret</b>\\nyou play this turn costs (0).
Hi, I am also very interested in this. Thank you for taking some time to solve this for us :)

I don't believe your theory is true. There seems to be no pattern grouping these cards together. No single mechanic, or card set, or any card attribute (type, stats, cost, rariety etc.).

e.g. here are two C'thun cards from the same set, with the same mechanics
https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/cards/38882-dark-arakkoa?set=wild&textFilter=c%27thun (with [x])
https://playhearthstone.com/en-gb/cards/38863-cthuns-chosen (with [x])
https://playhearthstone.com/en-gb/cards/39118-skeram-cultist (without [x])
https://playhearthstone.com/en-gb/cards/38857-cthun (C'thun itself doesnt have [x]!)

Other examples:
https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/cards/42598-obsidian-statue?set=wild&textFilter=Obsidian%20Statue (complicated mechanics, high cost)
https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/cards/40938-dragonfire-potion?set=wild&textFilter=dragonfire (spell)

I have an answer for you. The [x] is a flag that gets checked when generating graphic images for the cards. It signifies that line breaks will not be added to wrap words automatically.
That's pretty interesting, I would not have guessed that. Thanks for coming back with the answer. :)
I'm reposting these two replies under a new blue account with my real identity. I'll be deleting the previous posts.

Hi Pyrolistical, I'm a developer on the Hearthstone website team.

The new API is pulling text directly from the current build of the game client, so that "[x]" is coming straight from the game. Unfortunately, I don't know for sure what the string is for yet. When we display the data on the Card Library page, we just filter out some of the extra markup. I've passed along your question to Team 5, so I'll let you know as soon as I hear back. Currently we think that the [x] is related to cards that affect the stats of other cards in your hand.

Thanks for your question. The web team is very much paying attention to this forum, and we're looking for all the suggestions and bug reports we can find for this new feature.

I have an answer for you. The [x] is a flag that gets checked when generating graphic images for the cards. It signifies that line breaks will not be added to wrap words automatically.

For example, the Kirin Tor Mage text with the [x] will show up as

Battlecry: The next Secret
you play this turn costs (0).

Without the [x], there would be automatic word wrapping on longer lines, so it might show up as something like

Battlecry: The next
Secret
you play this turn costs
(0).

It looks like font size is also reduced as necessary to force lines to fit. As a developer, you will probably want to filter out the symbol, as it gives no other information besides graphic formatting hints.
Thanks Russell! That makes a lot of sense. Really appreciate your help in solving this mystery.
