Before you get too far into the game, the first thing you need to do is go into the Options menu, under Gameplay, check the boxes for "Elective Mode" and "Advanced Tooltips". I’m on my phone, so can’t view the video, but I assume you are using WD pet build. If so, it’s a known issue. Temp fix is to remove and re-equip the item containing the gem.Seems to be an issue with pet kills not triggering the gem.

Double-check your difficulty level. The rift ends when you talk to Orek, not when you kill the rift guardian.Also, make sure you are not doing a Greater Rift.
