My friend wants me to play D3. Is the $40 for the game

General Discussion

I wouldnt dump $80 into this game. Instead, if I were you, I would dump $80 into the F2P Marvel Heroes. You will get way more bang for your buck. In my opinion it is way better than D3...

Dont get me wrong, I do play D3 with my friends, but prefer a quality game over Blizzards name at this point in my life... Blizz screwed themselves releasing what they call D3.. The expac was their attempt to fix it, but I feel it was too little too late..

And to the guy who commented on us posting on these forums even though we prefer other games... I never paid a penny for this game... Not D3 and not RoS... I got D3 from the WoW annual pass and my buddy bought RoS so I would play with him because I just dont want to give my money to Blizz anymore..

I do enjoy playing this game, but feel there are superior games out there at this point...

Get the game. It's far better than anything else out there in the same category.

I could tolerate the argument that the game is "good," but "better than anything else out there in the same category?"

I could list so many examples here to counter what you said that's not even funny.
$80 is a joke for this game. $60 is worth it. As soon as an expansion comes out, the previous games need to be available for $20 collectively. I would never have bought it at full price.

17 million copies of D2 sold,
9.5 million copies of SC sold (including BW).
So not really a hard concept.

Where did you get those numbers? I can't find any credible sources that show anything more than 6 million for D2. On top of that, most of the sources for SC are showing at least 11 million.

And further to that, I still don't know how you could think that Diablo players even made up a significant population of the battle.net activity when compared to Starcraft II.

This, anything fun you find in the game will eventually be nerf'd out of the game. Spend your money else where.

Not worth $40, let alone buying both to play ROS!

Going by forum comments, barely anyone here has played D2. There's boatloads of people who pretend to have played D2, but it's obvious that barely anyone actually did.

If you do buy it, be prepared to grind for hours and hours before you even see the slightest godly items.

Even then, you probly won't get them.

This couldn't be anymore true! QFT!

I agree with everyone on here... I played this game for about 150 hours now and trust me its not worth it. If your expecting to deck your character out expect 3000 hours of farming.

Only buy this game

1) If you like spending 3000 hours to deck out your character
2) If you can handle being forced to farm for an additional 1000 hours every time your Great Leg gets nerfed.
3) Love to play the Lottery
4) have Very low expectations and don't care that the console version gets your more for your money.
5) You don't have a ps4 and can't buy that version
6) You understand that you may not EVER play the build you want if the LOTTERY does't play out for you
7) You Have no problem feeling like you lost $40 after spending 200 hours of hope that this is the true Diablo.
8) Understand that you won't ever be OP blizzard does not want this version of Diablo to be like Diablo 1 or Diablo 2 so you won't ever be able to 1 shot mobs in Torment Ever. If you find a way, it'll be nerfed.

If your a Hard Core Fan of Diablo it takes about 200 hours long to actually realize this game has no end game or chance to actually last 10 years. This is why blizzard only gives us 1 leg every 2 hours. They think stretching out the grind is end game when its really being OP and 1 shotting mobs on T6.

If you enjoy the grind buy this game. If you want to spend 1/8th the time getting upgrades buy the Ps4 version hands down it's going to be the better game.

No, it's really not. There is no way that any game that is released right now is going to have years worth of content without new content consistently being added. The EXTREMELY small playerbase coming from D2 is not indicative of the current gamer population nor does it provide a legitimate example of a game having that much content.

[/quote]

Actually Marvel Heroes is a F2P game that releases new content monthly for free. You do have to purchase extra heroes and cosmetic stuff (even though you can pretty much get everything free just for playing), but the content is free. Marvel Heroes will most likely still be afloat 10 years from now (as that is how long their license is with Marvel)... D3 will not.. We will be lucky to see another expansion for this game...

And small playerbase coming from D2? I bet the majority of people who bought D3 upon release were D2 fans. Most of them quit playing almost immediately after because this game really isnt a Diablo successor.

I play this game with my buddies because they enjoy it, but I still know that there are far superior ARPGs out there. I come to these forums to learn builds and stuff while at work. Dont think I dont frequent other game sites more than this one...

because battlenet existed like it does today when D2 was released... 95% of the people who played D2 when it released will most likely not show it on their battlenet account because they played it then, not within the last couple of years when it would update saying you own the game.. I think my account my have my D2 key tied to it, but I only did it so that I could throw the disc away and not need it anymore.. I havent played D2 to my knowledge since I did so...

Honestly I was not planning to buy RoS. Then I played the pre RoS 2.0 and it was the best fun I ever had in D3 (mainly because of the raining legs), so I bought RoS thinking they would deliver the same degree of excitment. Boy, was I wrong.

Worth every penny. Hell get a copy for a friend.

Everyone who said not worth it plays this game religiously and will log in to play the second they get home.

Get the game. It's far better than anything else out there in the same category. DS2 is meh, and all the other diablo clones got shut down hard with RoS. I hated d3 after release and quit for months.

It's my new favorite game while waiting for Star Citizen. Don't listen to trolls, you know it's a great game.

Marvel Heroes didnt get shut down and is far superior to this game... What D3 has that MH doesnt? Rifts and a bigger gear selection for changing specs (which I bet we will see both in Marvel Heroes within a year)... What Marvel Heroes has that D3 does not? Literally everything else....

Of course, idiot. He's playing it, so naturally he would have some insight.

Seriously... please don't breed. Thanks.
I say go ahead m8 and buy the game. It's damn fun when you play coop. Loot 2.0 improved game by a lot. You can now actually kill stuff and expect something awesome (yeah you crybabies gtfo expecting for awesome items to drop 24/7 is really not amusing) to drop. Soon they will be implementing tiered rifts (endless rifts with increasing difficulty) and ladders with new legendaries! Should be tons of fun! :D
OP, D3 has massive potential to be an amazing game. Right now it feels like the game is not quite there yet.

My suggestion is if you enjoy a game with very low effort vs rewards, you can buy the game now. But if you enjoy a rewarding ARPG, hold off for a few months till they (hopefully) fix the game.
I find virtually every person that came onto this thread saying "it's not worth it" to be about as credible as the guy offering me candy to get into his van.
The forums are the worst place to ask questions reg. this game. Given the least amount of players visit the forums and the majority are in the game. The players who generally find themselves on the forums are usually bitter. Then there are the few, like myself and others - even on this thread, who love the game.

You'll receive the most constructive and best feedback by talking to those in-game.
