Putting hydras close is wrong

Wizard
Hi I play monk for trials and wd for grifts, I just wanted to say I think putting hydras directly ontop of the mobs is bad advice. I heard somebody say they do max damage per frame this way, maybe single target against the RG, but I think zeis stone makes up for it.

Regardless, putting hydras directly ontop of the mobs is bad for business I think. There should be a balance between aiming them and getting the max frames per attack or whatever.
Zei's stone doesn't remotely come close to compensating for the lost damage per frame unless it's well over level 100 (I forgot the exact calculation)

Did some controlled frame-by-frame testing on mammoth hydra and here are the results:

Mammoth ticks for 99% wpn dmg once every 18 frames (0.3 sec)
A single fire trail can tick up to 16 times on a single target, if close enough, so that's a 4.5 second duration from first hit to last hit
A target at max range will have 10 ticks per fire trail dealt to them

This Means:

1584% wpn dmg done per fire trail cast if all ticks hit (melee range)
990% wpn dmg done per fire trail cast if at max range (10 out of 16 ticks)

*This testing was conducted at 1.0 aps using a single fire trail

The OP seems to understand that you get the most raw damage out of a close hydra. He just didn't express his concern very well.

Many wizards don't target their hydras very well, simply dropping them on the pack. This is bad. If the hydra is inside of the pack, it will shoot out of the pack, and hit only half as many monsters as a hydra that is outside of the pack, shooting in.

To maximize hydra damage you need to place the hydra as close as possible without being in the pack. Do not drop hydras on the pack itself.

Damnit, now I want M&Ms.
Yeah, how I do it. But in fact I thought that Zeis simply does not work with Hydra. Haha.
The issue is to find a good compromise betwenn Zei distance and Hydra Range.

It is easier to play without Zei in mind and place the Hydra like in the wonderfull diagram of vishnu.
Always nice to have newcommers, hello Cheffrey.

If u'r into hydras, melee range wizard is the best option to boost hydra's attack speed- Pain Enhancer and Slow Time bubble with Stretch Time rune. Then they benefit from your crazy IAS and can be placed at maximum range to benefit from zei's while being able to hit moving targets.
