Are GRs DESIGNED to be annoying?

This could be thread number 1*10^50 and I'd still have posted this, TBH. They can only ignore it for so long.
so... ive pushed a few new levels.. I've pretty much gone back to regular rifts.. the maps and drops are more fun. The higher the grift it seems the more you have to work.. and I mean the maps.. why?
why does the maps tend to suck? or they are limited to just a few.. is it a cop out to fight bots? I mean there are so many maps out there why are we trudging through spider caves and sewers.. I ran for over a min in a sewer map.. there was no extra corridors.. it was all 90 turns how is that fun?

GRs are your medieval casino.
People used to die alot in that age, so will you in your attempt to win.
It's a game of patience. Attaching emotion to randomness is stupid.
In this game you do alot of inbetweens before and if you ever get to what you want to do.
Some like the inbetweens more than the end, but some don't.
You have to be realistic in your game goals in order to enjoy it..if you have any. With so much RNG, it's hard to get close to reality.
But there is the strain, if you don't feel attached to what you're doing because you have no control over it, reactions are of all kinds : you get pissed off, you fall asleep, your body cringes, your momentum is killed in a few minutes, you get bored etc.
Want less..enjoy more <-- That's not real players' mind.
its turned into nothing more than massive rng lotto fishing and I hate it. Its probably the most frustrating aspect of the game right now by far for me.

I agree with you. Nowadays there is no such a thing as a grift level 65. It can be a 65 for dummies, 65 easy, 65 normal, 65 hard, 65 xhard, 65 impossible... The level number doesn't mean anything.
i play solo only.this season ... i agree with all the crap having to do with all the fishing for the the density but beyond that the biggest let down of all after this is spawning peridion rg it seems insta-fail after all the trouble...i feel for any hardcore player at higher grifts ...i assume they always exit or die if i am wrong ...tell the secret ..how do you not die 10 times at least without exit
There was too much disparity between multiple GR's, so dev action was taken to make them all as equally bad as possible. It appears to have worked.

Seems that way, anyway. It's totally ridiculous how bad some rifts are compared to others. There's no other explanation; they're doing it on purpose.

I got this map most of the time man.
There's this one grift i started in the spire and good mob and thinking this is the one, only to find it was a shot map, the next map was the one on your screenshot third map same one the 4th map of course it was going to be a cave, lmao.

The only way to make this competitive is to make an open map with the same exact mob types and density every time then spawn all the grift guardians at once.
Imo grs must change a lot next patch. Its a very bad design when u open a gr and automatically have to leave the game.
I want to try all the grs i open knowing that if i play good ill win the 15m race. Playing with a vyr wiz for leaderboards is the most annoying thing this patch, u can play 1 out of 20 grs...
Only classes that is playable in higher rift are monk and barbarian they got lots of toughness and defense against one shot. I played all the classes Demon Hunter got zero survival againt wing assassin, bull raming, and reflect damage. Game needs to fix ghost running away and nerf the soul drain damage.
They seem to have forgot why Diablo was cool. I mean, Diablo 2 had its faults and required a bunch of tweaks, but the initial art design was great. Diablo 3 looks cartoonish and not interesting (especially spells), so they are trying to fix something that is lame from the start.

Randomly, this reminds me of the hobbit trilogy... they give off a bad taste from the start because the initial take has no impact. No amount of special edition additives will help. So just with diablo, no amount of patchwork will fix this game. Unless they rework the graphics to make people actually care about the world they are in.
Mob density and type doesn't bother me nearly as much as deadends.

My favorite deadend is Arreat Crater though
Grifts as they are now are just a lottery. There's nothing competitive about opening 50+ grifts to get the one that can be done in time. It's just reason to get frustrated and also disappointed by the devs obvious incapacity to make this work.

Plus nerfing crowd control has made DHs and Wizards usless for groups. And guess what? Zdps is ruling group GRs once more.

Zdps is okay IMO, it encourages some team play and coordination. But I agree that the current meta is really bad and unhealthy (3-4 classes literally have no role, and only 1-2 can dps at all).

I must say, I am with you on that one HotShot, twas a silly thing for blizzard to do, CC on my cold DH made me viable in most groups before, now, not so much. :(

Yes MeWhenum, GRifts where designed right from the start to be annoying and as far as I am concerned they will only get worse as time goes on if they don't make some of the changes that have already been mentioned in this thread.

My biggest peeve is no open battlefield maps what so ever, playing a ranged hero in Grifts feels like I am playing in a funnel with a spout I can't fit through. LOL
It's all about that artificial longevity. RNG serves this goal rather exceptionally, really, specially when heavily weighted against the player.

Funny thing is, with infinite GR levels, there's not even need for this kind inconsistent nonsense. Everyone has a limit, with infinite levels everyone is guaranteed to reach it at one point or another. Might as well make it about failing due to lack of power/skill than lack of luck because you couldn't find enough stuff to kill.
Talk about annoying -- imagine if you had entire level of goblins that don't drop any loot.
