This would be awesome addition not only because of remembering what skills and passives you need to use for a specific setup but also because right now with the set dungeons we have to keep ALL the gear in stash and for 1 char it basically means 90% of 1 tab just to hold the sets, not mentioning the weapons, belts and wrist items with the specific build.
I really hope a feature like yours is added to the game!
INCREDIBLY awesome idea(s)!!! I wish I could sit and hammer the up-vote a million times!

They should place almost everything else except game-breakers on hold and dedicate mass resources to putting this into place. :) Certainly place it above almost any other new content.
Blizzard states server space is an issue so this will probably never happen.

If this is truly the holdup, then keep the gear in the stash space and have it swap out there. If it's not there, show a message and leave the current gear. But still retain the concept of switching builds (gear/gems/skills/cube), regardless of where the items are physically stored.

This really needs to happen.
I would give up a stash tab to make this happen lol.
This would be oh-so-perfect. 5 tabs looks like a lot, but that should work about fine with 4 sets/class plus a speedfarming build. If that were to come true, we'd actually need less storage space (assuming the Armor Rack would double up as a storage).
5 Tabs actually makes sense. Then you could actually have all classees in seasonal and non-seasonal because you could have each set and a farming build for each class and not worry about taking a slot up per build you want to run.

Your character slots actually become character slots and it becomes feasible from a character slot and stash perspective to play both seasons and non-seasons. Hop on the char you actually want to play, with who you want to play with. People don't have to make characters for additional stash space and you focus on playing the game.

Also, if some better gear drops for a set that you are currently not running, you do a quick compare and soul the one that is not the best. None of this, "well I can't remember if this is better and its on a different char so I'm going to put it in my stash for now and play stash tetris later."

I would be absolutely shocked if this was rolled out by seasons 6, or ever for that matter. But who knows, most ideas in GD get moved to the items subforum to die.

One of the most requested features I see popping up around various fan-sites and this forum is for the ability to quickly swap between items and skills.

We're in a really good place right now in terms of build diversity used for various in-game activities such as Rifts, Bounties, Greater Rifts (solo/group), and Set Dungeons. However, with the increasing number of builds and activities we also run into the frustrating issue of changing our gear, skills, and even Paragon when we decide we want to switch from one activity to another. Wouldn't it be nice to quickly switch our gear and skills with just one button?

I took some time to mock up a rough feature which I believe would not only help with quick build swapping but would also allow us to organize and collect gear for specific builds.

Check it out here: https://twitter.com/MonstrousD3/status/695362513714548737

  • Armor Racks specific to each character (not shared).
  • One-click gear, skill, and Paragon swap.
  • Organize and collect gear sets without using up valuable Stash space.

If a feature like this was added to the game, what kind of functionality would you like to see?

Love the idea....sadly blizz seems to think weapon swap was too complex for it's target player base. I doubt this will happen.

With the way this game has turned out with storage restriction and overall design, a build swap feature is needed.
Nice man.

Now for unlimited or way more stash space. With all these set dungeon and you wanting to conquer them all.. that means more collecting sets.. Even with the 2 additional stash tabs I'm full 24/7. Full character slots as well.

Blizzard gives additional stash tabs... but requires us to collect every set to do achievements and what not.

No real logic -.-
I would love to see that in the game.

First, It would be nice to have a talk with the managers about this things. I remember to read in some place the devs had this feature in mind at some point: it would be nice to know which are the problems they had, if they have plans to add it in the future or not.

In general, it would be nice if they talk with us about this kind of topics from time to time.

One-click gear and skill swap

I love this idea and it could be implemented in many ways and it would give many adventages to the players.

Adventages

- Easy to switch between builds. This would encourage players to create and play more builds. This also means people would search for those items.

- It would also help a lot with the stash problems, since the players would have the items stored in the "armory". It also gives a better way to have the items in order, no more missing pieces of the build scatered between stash tabs, inventories of the character and mules.

- It would also reduce the amount of mules needed. This would promote to play other game modes: the player wouldn't need to have 3 monks, 3 barbs, etc in a single game mode, but now can have one for HC, one for SC, one for Seasons, etc.

Ways in which this could be implemented

1) In stash/npc

The first way is the one posted by the OP. Have a special stash/npc to switch between builds. This gives the adventage of switch in town without casting times, CDs, etc.

This is the one way I would like the most, bcs is simple and don't create a big change in the way we currently behave in the field (so, it doesn't require big balances, etc).

The disadvantage could be that we wouldn't be able to use it in the field (except greater rifts ofc). Ofc, this could be a positive thing too.

2) In the character

Some time ago I posted about this idea.

The mirrored item system

I took this name from @TheDreamer in his/her thread about loadouts: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/18300117171#4

The mirrored item is an item that is shared in multiple loadouts. The adventage of this system is that would let us have many loadouts and share sitems between them. The problem is that is a more complicated system.

Picture 2: http://i.imgur.com/57zO3nu.jpg?1

I gave them numbers to identify them easily.

I think a total of 5 would be ok to equip multiple sets and the items that go with them.

How to share the items:

First we select the desired loadout and equip the item on it. In the picture, the loadout 4 was selected.

Picture 3: http://i.imgur.com/JRfwLl5.jpg?1

If we want to share that item with another loadout, we simply drag and drop the item over that loadout's tag: in this case we drop it over the loadout 5.

Picture 4: http://i.imgur.com/oJQiBKl.jpg?1

Now we have the mirror item in another loadout (in this case, the loadout 5). This items would be easy to identify bcs are transparent.

Picture 5: http://i.imgur.com/T89uyyl.jpg?1

Now, the problem comes when we want to remove an item that is used by multiple loadouts.

- If the item is an image of the original one, then place another item over it would remove it.

- If the item is the original one, then one can move it to the inventory, but when try to do that, the player will be warned that the item is being used by x amount of builds. The player would get the options to remove the item from all the builds, move it to one of the other builds or cancel.

Loadouts: Skills and Cube

My idea is to have all the skills and cube passives stored and displayed in one place to see it easy when we check which loadout we want to use. The loadouts could work without this but wouldn't be that easy to check the skills and cube passives we want to change to.

The idea of how came to me when I saw the diablo's signature in this page: http://www.best-signatures.com/

I think it was a great way to store all the skills, runes and passives, so, I modify it to put it in the game and also added the cube's passives.

Picture 6: http://i.imgur.com/yreToQs.jpg?1

Then I wanted to make it part of the inventory and made this:

Picture 7: http://i.imgur.com/PnIjfZF.jpg?1

This is how it would work:

1) The window would be closed, and would be opened by pressing a button over the place in which we check the gold we have.

Picture 8: http://i.imgur.com/q9QhVCV.jpg?1

2) We can open that window by pressing the button and close it when press it again. From there we can check the loadout's setup of skills (with runes), passive skills and cube passives.

The HC Problem

There is another problem with the "switch build" thing and it is what happen with all the items when a HC character dies.

The answer to that would be mail all the items that arn't equiped in the active build at the moment of death.

This is a fantastic idea, and one whose implementation has definitely been considered significantly by OP and others.

Thank you for the hard work, hopefully we see this feature as soon as possible.

All 3 of them is still in town, they don't follow you but you can still access their inventory. Would work the same way with a gear rack. Click to talk to them, change pre set gear.

If they're only available in-town like that then the rack is a better option. At least then you don't have confusing options on the followers and have a visual object that you'd actually logically associate with gear sets.

It would need to be moved from where it is currently in the mock up, the Town Portal would actually overlap it ;)

The Town Portal overlaps a lot of things already. IMO NPC and object placement, especially in act 3 and 4 are frustratingly annoying. I mean do we really need our banner smack in the middle of everything and next to our town portal when that functionality could be moved to right clicking the group members' portraits and selecting "Teleport to banner location" if it isn't greyed out? :)

Armor Racks specific to each character (not shared)

I had somehow overlooked this (or it wasn't there originally). There needs to be a fallback for HC because as mentioned, you should only lose the gear you're wearing, not that is being "held" for you in reserve. The mailback option presented in this thread by another user is a viable means of accomodating HC players since obviously the central stash may no longer have space in it at the time of your death.

Someone suggested the items stored in the Armor Rack could just be sent back via mail in the case of a HC death. I don't mind that idea.
Great ideas ! Exactly what we need to avoid wasting 1 char slot per build especialy when the slots are limited.

Blizzard can state whatever BS they want, but I can guarantee you, that the issue is NOT server space. If that were the case, the banks in WoW would have a lot less slots and ability to hold bags with gear in them. Now, whether they used decent programming so that bank slots wouldn't be an issue in D3 is another story.
Will a blue voice chime in here please? This seems like a great idea, please let us know you have seen it.

More of this and less set dungeons pls.
The armor rack doesn't have to offer additional storage space. It's just saved templates that can pull gear and gems directly from your stash.
