Season 11: A Graveyard Swansong?

General Discussion
I'm getting the impression that this community is in a depressive state lately. I had no idea Season 11 had even begun until couple days in, and I frequent these forums. I didn't even notice the announcement in the launcher because the image/font/style used was so similar to the one declaring the end of Season 10. It makes me wonder if the lack of interest stems from disappointment in the Necromancer, or something else.

When the Necromancer DLC was first announced, I was beyond excited! So excited - in fact - that I began actively playing D3 again. The news of my favorite class from D2 being introduced to D3 fueled my passion for the game through all of Season 10. Now that I've bought and played the Necromancer, all that excitement is gone, and Season 11 is entirely uninteresting.

The lack of changes to other classes makes Season 11 purely about the Necromancer. I didn't particularly enjoy it, so I'm just sitting around waiting for the return of Whirlwind, or anything else interesting. How about you?
I like the necro, and enjoy s11. I dont know why so many people complain tbh.

I can only speak for myself, and my reason is that I hate micromanagement, constantly having to reapply buffs and abilities that last mere seconds. I feel like the entire game has been innovated up a creek without a paddle, and - unfortunately - the Necromancer is no exception. I wanted a nice and easy, passive pet build. I want my pets to kill stuff while I assist with curses and whatnot. It's not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoy that play-style. Alas, Blizzard had other plans.

Slightly off-topic:
Just because we have more to do doesn't mean we're having more fun. At some point, it's just needless complexity made to occupy the player, and this complexity often requires the player to engage in "game-breaking" behavior since it's dependent on situational circumstance to function. When that circumstance is not presented in the content, the build fails. So, players adapt, running from elite to elite, fishing for stacks outside the rift to tackle the Guardian... whatever it takes. Out of necessity and desperation... not because it's fun.
The inability to accurately identify those that exploit, along with a lack of any recent ban wave for botters, has caused any sense of "integrity of the game" to become "vaporware".

The Diablo team'so slow response didn't help.

On top of which, any information about the game seems to be only available behind a paid twitch subscription. (Unlike other Blizzard games).

So...yeah...season 11 === not a fun season.

This community has been in a depressive state since the beginning. It's more a defeated state now. Instead of anticipation for the season, there were calls for it to be pushed back until things got fixed, but nothing has happened.

As for not knowing the season had started - I'm surprised we don't even have a fluff blue sticky like "Season 11 has begun!". The improved communication plan must be a very slow and arduous process.

Oh dear... and I thought I was bleak. That cracked me up, man. :D
Everyone likes seasons for the first couple weeks its new fresh ect. But soon its pretty much non season just on another character
Whirlwind has returned couple patches ago, it's the strongest barbarian build, capable of GR100+

Which doesn't mean much, because Barb is still dead in the water, 7-10 levels behind other classes.
yes and !@#$ in T13 and Bounties too.

Well, that's a really tricky thing, because Whirlwind doesn't work until you have some 2-4K Paragon. I think it's the Rampage (Passive) that scales up with all the extra main-stat that makes it work. Also, a build dependent on secondary bonuses from obscure items... that's really tough to gear for. It's like ten times as hard to gear for than any other build, which is a ridiculous thing to begin with.

I'll tell you what, though... if Whirlwind was doable by anything other than a mad kite using bots, I'd be playing the game this season.
Me? ~ I'm playing the DH. Might do Necro HC if theres time.

I've found that the DH is definitely the way to go for an easy season start, and not only that, the Impale build is absolutely flawless... it works in any situation. Whether it's trash, bosses or guardians, jetting around for bounties or speed-runs... DH/Impale is an all-round sure thing. I only wish my favorite builds for other classes could match it.
When i hear "necromancer ", i expect a Pet specialist .... what do i get ?
A basic wizard bis class.

When i hear about a next DLC, i expect some global change with it, but in fact it is just necromancer.

S11 will be the same than S10 ... over and over the same thing .... again ... boring.

Nah, you exaggerating. In season 10 GR 90 clears started to show up around 1100-1300 paragon, yes, augments on but it was 2-3 weeks into season. I firmly believe that Istvans WW (not Bul-Khatos) can clear 90 at 1000 paragon with full 80 augments. This can be done solo. Before paragon 1000 and GR 90+, Might of the Earth is the set that's best bang for the buck. You can do GR 70 at paragon 500 (that if you don't know what you doing, Barb mains do it before paragon 400), at paragon 800 you can farm 75-80's in 10-13 minutes as long as you have ancient weapon and proper rolls on items.

Basically MoTE is better set for the season, and WW is stronger only at the very, very end. I pushed both, both season and non season, I've reached top 10/20 solo on them at various paragon (1300-1700 on season, 1800-2500 on non season, clears from 90 to 97/98)

We are weaker than all other classes, but we are playable, we have 4-5 builds that are within 4 GR levels top capacity. I take it over class with one build in an eye blink.

I agree with this statement completely. Typically at the start of the season I shoot for GR80 before augmenting this build; I'm already at a 78 so it's not so bad although still slow-bus compared to other classes.

"Lately"? :)

The community loves to use destructive feedback.

Look at the countless number of posts criticizing blizzard as a company, all facets of this game, other people...

The die-hards equate higher GR with higher amounts of fun. It is all about the leaderboards for a subset of this community. That subset (however large/small it may be) is very vocal, hence what looks like mass disappointment with Necro. Maybe you are familiar with Pareto's principle... well, it is here at work.

I am truly enjoying this season. I rolled a Necro and I am glad I did.

= = =

PS - here are the top 10 "newest" posts as I see them on the board. 4/10 already with negative connotation on the subject.

Proof Blizzard forgets Diablo exists.

I must admit, I haven't tried Istvans, but I've seen Bul-Kathos builds way up there as well. The build I was aiming for required all kinds of crazy secondary rolls, chance to freeze on belt and gloves, that weird neck piece with the ranged damage reduction, etc. I know it's possible to get there, but after months of farming, I was never able to collect a worthwhile set of gear. I guess I've had some really bad luck.

This is the current state of affairs: https://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Hoodling-2347/hero/73478633

I've had to adapt my build to the items I've got, so it's not entirely cookie-cutter right now, but I'm able to ache my way through a 65, and I die a lot. I've been very hesitant to waste hard earned gems on augmenting this crap, because it seems like a total waste (no pun), at least for now.

I'll never understand why people bother with the ladder. :p
