Both monitors go black after playing

Technical Support
As said above, while playing diablo both of my monitors will turn black like they have no input. I can still hear the game in the background and my friends can still see me in-game. Doing anything else on the computer for any amount of time does not replicate this. I can play other games fine, watch movies, etc... Only happens after playing diablo, sometimes after 5min and sometimes 45min.

PC specs:
CPU: i7-7700k @ 4.2GHz + NZXT Kraken x62 v2
MOBO: Asus STRIX Z270-E
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4 @ 3200
HDD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB + Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
GPU: EVGA GeForce 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 BLACK EDITION
PS: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W
OS: Windows 10 Pro
MONITOR: Asus VG248QE x2
You must be playing in full screen mode if its affecting your other monitor, try putting it in windowed mode and see what happens. I remember seeing a few other posts where it was minimising the window to the task bar, if you're in full screen mode and you minimise or alt+tab it will go black while its changing display mode, though it shouldn't stay black.
My screen has been going black and unresponsive as well, haven't found a solution yet.

I was starting to think it was due to me having windows 7 and that OS being next on the chopping block for support, but seeing OP having issue on a far newer machine with windows 10 is pretty disconcerting.
Hey there moon,

If your monitors are losing display from the video card that's usually an indication that the display drivers are crashing/unresponsive or there's a hardware problem going on. This sounds like it could be a TDR issue (Timeout Detection and Recovery) where the Nvidia drivers are crashing and they aren't recovering.

Here's a few things you can try.

1) Uninstall and reinstall your Nvidia drivers. Make sure you download the latest drivers, currently version 388.13

2) Try rebooting in Selective Startup in order to shut down background processes and services that could be interfering with the drivers or the game.

3) If you built the PC on your own I would double check that the GPU is full seated into the motherboard slot. Otherwise if it came pre-built I'd recommend contacting the seller/manufacturer.

Tried this and then it still happened. I can play CSGO, PUBG, etc.. and i played them for over an hour to test if it was a video card problem. All other games play on max settings and nothing happens. I launched D3 and stayed on the main menu and after 5min both monitors turned black again.

If i am playing with a friend and the screen goes black, they are telling me that i disconnect from the game instantly as well. I can still hear the games menu from my headset though.

So far i have followed the steps above, fresh install of video card drivers, fresh diablo install and i even did a new windows installation as well. I tried running the game in compatibility mode and still got the same results.
Same problem for me, sometimes I can play for a few minutes, other times it will black screen on launch. Tried a fresh install, and 32 bit client, still the same. All other games are fine, gpu is seated correctly, and minimal additional services open.
Hey again moon,

Thanks for the update and the additional info. If you are running the latest version of Windows 10 lets try disabling a few things to see if they make a difference.

1. Disable the Xbox DVR

https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/92046

2. Try disabling Fullscreen Optimization.

- In the Blizzard app on the Diablo 3 screen go to Options -> Show in Explorer
- Open the Diablo 3 folder, find Diablo III.exe and right-click to select Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab then check the box for "Disable fullscreen optimization"

I would also try deleting your D3Prefs file from the Documents\Diablo III folder since that isn't cleared out when reinstalling the game, just to make sure everything has been set back to defaults as far as the settings.

If those don't end up helping feel free to post your DXDIAG file and we can take a closer look.
I would try removing the video cable and try one monitor at a time, you could have a video cable issue manifesting.

You could also try reducing the Hz on your monitors to 60 to see if that helps, I read some people had issues with 144 Hz.

Just some things to try
Sorry to bump this from the graveyard but i suffer from both monitors going black and flickering when i launch the game, and then my second monitor staying black until ive alt tabbed a few times.

win 7 64bit, built the system myself, i7 4790k & GTX 1080TI - hardware is seated, drivers are good.

It's only diablo 3 that i get issues in, i play a variety of games in fullscreen and borderless window, but diablo 3 i run fullscreen (have tried borderless window but dont like the performance loss as i game on a 144hz gsync monitor)

plz halp?
Try disabling Gsync and see if the issue still persists.
