Tips for Starting S13

General Discussion
I just started playing D3 last season and managed to fumble my way to GR50 with a Witch Doctor. I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes / poor gear choices along the way. This season I'd like to use a Demon Hunter, but I'm really looking for any general tips. Tips on gearing, progression, when to do what, anything really.

Thanks!
Create your seasonal character.
Do the challenge rift and claim the prize on that seasonal character. (Make sure you have created the seasonal character first!)
Find a clan that does seasonal stuff

Hey, welcome to D3 i would suggest doing a search on youtube plenty of info there.
Blushedd and Rhyker come to mind for general and different types of builds.

Best of luck in the new season. :)

Thanks, will do!
This guide alone is incredibly helpful. You dont need to follow it line by line, and most the stuff is fine solo.

Once you've hit 70 and done your challenge rift, craft a lord greenstone fan dagger and equip with fan of knives. Will be even stronger once you have 2 pc shadow

I'm still a bit confused about progression. Do I start in adventure mode -> hit 70 -> do story mode, or jump back and forth, or do story first?
No story mode if you don’t want to know the story. :)
Story Mode is the slowest way to progress. Only reason you may want to start with Story Mode at the start is to get Leoric's Crown which is a guaranteed drop from the Skeleton King then move on. But many times, I end up getting it just doing Rifts/Bounties.

At the start, I do Rifts and just run high density areas over and over again to take advatantage of the killing massacre bonuses which really helps you progress.
