The system is limited to displaying between 1% and 100%. The current chance you're looking at is 0.0146% chance. Each gem level above the greater rift level cuts the chance in half.

60%
30%
15%
7.5%
3.75%
Etc...

However, the system displays the nearest percentage value between 1% and 100%, which is why you see 8%, 4%, and 2%.

On average, it'll take 4732 attempts to get a gem to 104 with level 91 GRs.


I've seen 0% chances too. If it really is rounded up to the nearest largest integer, we should see 1% for quite a while before the floating point format finally exhausts the exponent's capacity and results in zero. Does the halving scheme explain this behavior?

Wow, didn't realize people actually did 1%:ers below GR130 in current patch. Why not just join a community/clan and get your gems up in groups? You can easily avoid this headache. 0_o
