Tencent, Diablo, Mobile and the Chinese Market

Seems true.
What the OP said is very likely true but I just cant understand why they tried to reveal that stuff on blizzcon then.
They could have just put out a press release somewhen saying that they are licensing out the diablo IP to a chinese company to make a mobile game for the asian market. Dont worry we got other Games in the Diablo franchise in the work.

This would be so much cleaner and only caused a minor uproar if at all because people see upfront that they are not missunderstood. But what they did was horrible. Even saying they are working on a Diablo game is bs. You can look up other games from NetEase and there are games that are pretty much what D:I looks like. Just without the Diablo Art Assets. D:I is just a reskin of an older game allready existing.

But this.... idk who thought that would be a good idea. I cant remember ever that the crowd at blizzcon booed after a new game was revealed.
I am a Chinese player. I don't wanna play this mobile game at all. I would like to play reforged D2, new DLCs, or at least redesigned skill tree. The Chinese Diablo forums such as NGA are also full of disappointments. I don't know why they make this decision. They do not hear what the players really want. Until now, only 2000 players have pre ordered this mobile game in China(they give a free loot box for pre-ordered players and the pre-order is free. Here is the link to check the number of pre-order: https://d.163.com/).

They didn't have to announce it...

Fact is, they had NOTHING else to announce!! THAT'S why they announced it...

No one in the states cares... BUT, again, Blizzard had f**k-all to show for Diablo, so they showed us, and ruined their entire franchise for a quick buck in a different market, while losing out on the BILLIONS of dollars they could have made here by giving us a game we've BEGGED TO PAY FOR for years... Literal millions of people saying "Make this, we'll pay!" ... And we get a !@#$ing mobile game that was a meme for YEARS as our reality?! And you expect us to pay for anything from your company ever again???? LMFAO!!!!!!!!

This LITERALLY just pushed BILLIONS of dollars and MILLIONS of players towards other games... Not gonna lie, ANYTHING that comes from Diablo after this, I won't even give a second look... Much less the INSULTS paid to us with, "Do you even have phones?!" F**king pathetic!!!!

There's bad business and then there's crashing and burning an entire franchise to the ground...
Then don't announce it for us stuff. Have your own Chinese release info. Clearly there is a different audience.

You weren’t promised !@#$. And not only that but how can you say something isn’t good if you haven’t even played it? You’re a greedy piece of %^-* !@#$ that thinks you and half this other group of %^-*s get what you want when you want it. Newsflash that’s not how the world works. Get off your toddler attitude high horse and before you talk !@#$ about something try it.

This isn't diablo. This is a bull!@#$ mobile phone game designed to take peoples money. That is the same reason every big company is putting money into a phone game, there is no other reason to waste resources on something like this

if you cant see that then you're blind. Lets see if this game is released without microtransactions okay?

there are about twice as many mobile gamers as pc gamers. gaming companies would have to to be stupid not to try and tap into the mobile market at some point.
i know this is closely related to the chinese market and componaies. but pls do not make this !@#$ argument. I am chiense and you menion about Tencent invovled into this? show some evidence ok? Tencent works with Netease?
It's NCsoft gobbling up Paragon Studios and ArenaNet all over again.

tencent has a massive stake in blizzard

you think they hired netease by chance?
come on glass heart
you know its true
If it's for the Chinese market then why bother advertising it in the west? Just let it make bank for Tencent in China and don't even tell us it exists.

This is just the fact of the matter.

if you guys are really wondering why they made diablo into a mobile game this is it.
its about cornering the chinese mobile market.

My wifes friends are already talking about the game back in shanghai
When PUBG came out in China is created a firestorm of mobile gamers.

My wifes friends didnt even care about video games until pubg came to phones.
Now they are all addicts

Why doesn't China get into PC gaming and drop all their censorship policies?

!@#$ china, %^-* investors, !@#$ this.

this isnt the company we grew up with
this company isnt recognizable for most of us

Yep, Blizzard has been effectively taken over by Activision I guess. Sad, I used to hold Blizzard as the pinnacle of gaming and now they are nothing but greedy sellouts. Oh how the mighty have fallen. :(
China is dead. Embracing anything over there right now is suicide.

Trump said so. Just wait and see.

Anyway none of that matters, they caved into to the all mighty dollar. I'm way too punk rock for this sheet.
Now I understand why Trump gettting tought over China stealling intellectual properties...

Actually, Netease is the main competitor to Tencent in China. I do not see a lot of cooperation between those two companies.
Probably you refer the Tencent because Tencent is holding 5% stock of Activision Blizzard. But Tencent is the service provider for Chinese League of Legend. And LOL is also owned by Activision Blizzard.
Netease is the only service provider in China for all Battlenet games (Diablo, WOW, Starcraft...). So Netease is only cooperating with Blizzard (the sub-department under Activision Blizzard).
I dont really know if Tencent really pushed this project, but it might made some stockholder decision on this project.
The Chinese audience will buy it and seing a market of billions, millions will buy D:I, it will be successful on the chinese market, sadly no doubt.

OP is so right, that it makes me feel so naive for believing in ANY game developing company. Im 38 years old, IT professional, and thought I could enjoy games without thinking about shareholders, stakes and whatnot.

Blizz tries to force the chinese hat on western heads, time will tell how ambitious/exigent western gamers (all of us from 12 - 60 years) really are or if we eat this ... cause theres nothing else.

Its all about the money...

Wyatt is that you?

It feels like someone send them here to deflect criticism. Whoever you are, why do you feel the urge to open controversial threads like these when it's obvious the "next big thing" of the franchise was actually a small maneuver for market flutter?

It's a game that you buy once, then just throw it away when you realize it's a Pay-to-win model. Nothing to think more about it, it's made out of cards and you chose to sit on it.
We all thrived for a more indepth mechanics to re-live innovative moments in the depths of hell but we get a low blow by outsourced greed. Nothing to be blind about it.
