Item and Monster Coloration

General Discussion
In the current color scheme, normal items are white, magic items are blue, rare items are yellow, and legendary items are orange.

Also in the current color scheme, normal monsters are white, champions are blue, rares are yellow, and legendary monsters (like Leoric and Headtaker) have purple names.

Why the difference for legendary creatures and items?

On a similar note, we've seen Purple items since the original gameplay video with the Barbarian from 2008, yet we've never gotten any explanation about what they were. At first it was believed that Purple would be the new color for legendary items, but that seems less and less likely. We can clearly see blue, orange, and purple items co-existing. Is it some new item type we've yet to hear about? Some artifact of development that was removed and will never be discussed? Who knows?

well charms will be coming back in an expansion... perhaps purple is saved for those again
It could be indicative of socketed items.

The images there are UI mockups, not in-game screens. Just because there's an item with purple text in the mockup doesn't necessarily mean there will be purple (non-quest) items in the game.

the runestones all have purple text.
following that the crafting materials and items have colors to match their rarity on the items page, i think it can be assumed runestones are purple at the moment.

In the image, the purple item is an Axe. Unless you can now put runes into weapons, it remains a mystery.

When making UI mockups one typically works with assets the team already has, like existing weapon art and colors. An image like that is testing how items would be displayed in the proposed UI, including how a purple item is displayed. The artist wouldn't include a purple item if they weren't in game, because then its appearance would be irrelevant.
Why report someone asking a legitimate question? Geez

mana was switched out for focus, if that's what you're talking about.
