The %damage stat on a weapon

Items and Crafting
Something is unclear to me. Does the ammount of +% damage stat increase total dps (like current total dps 1000 +10%), or just damage of the weapon wich would be the ammount you currently see on it ?
Bump because I am wondering the same thing.

For example:

If something has +10% damage on it, is it immediately outshined by something that has +11 Dexterity on it? (in the case of the Demon hunter)
% damage only effects the damage of the weapon. However many times this leads to a vastly stronger weapon than you would otherwise obtain. It is also quite certainly better in most cases than +11 to Dex or any other stat.
So... Say you had a 1000 damage weapon with +10% damage on it and you have 100 dexterity as DH (base stats, not on the weapon).

(1000 damage x 1.1) x 2 = 2200 damage?

If that's the case then...

A 1000 damage weapon with no +% damage on it but 100 dex on it (on that original character) would be...

1000 x 3 = 3000 damage

However... If you put a real number in for dex that a level 60 would have (1000+) we get different results (prior numbers skewed because they were low)

Base dex of 1000/weapon dps of 1000/+30% weapon damage(better for level 60 comparison)

(1000 x 1.3) x 10 = 13,000

Whereas:

Base dex of 1000/weapon dps of 1000/no +% weapon damage/+150 dex on item (realistic end game dex mod on a weapon[actually probably low in most cases])

1000 x 11.5 = 11,500

Not to mention other modifiers like your crit chance and + crit damage will modify both of those. Baseline, however, since it modifies weapon damage as opposed to the final damage (in a way that your characters defining stat does), it's almost always better to get +% weapon damage on an item than a good base stat value....

Please someone feel free to come in and correct me if any of it's wrong.

(1000 damage x 1.1) x 2 = 2200 damage?

1000 x 3 = 3000 damage

Where are you getting these multipliers from? (The x2, x3)
if you had a weapon with 100dps and your dex was at 100
a mod of +10% dmg results in:
(100dps x 1.1) x 2 = 220dps

a mod of +10 dex (ie bringing your dex to 110) results in:
100dps x 2.1 = 210dps

so the dmg mod is always gonna be better

100dex = +100% dmg for dex based characters, thus equivalent to a 2x multiplier

Ah I see ok thanks
weapon ed% in d2 never multiplied the +damage modifiers

so I assume ed% on_weapon is weapon base only, and not the 100-200 lighting that could spawn on it as well
