I got the same problem, came out from 1 hours or a little bit more
servers were down this morning. i had the same issue. I chalked it up to that. Mine did the same, but after the servers came online it updated.
Is this still happening?
Yes, just tested it, still looping
try to change the language option to another one, it works for me!

Still not working after changing language
Is there a particular error message, or does it just hang at a certain point?

No particular message.
Just keep on this loop...
Let's try to repair your disk and permissions, and see if that helps.

I just had the same problem:

Opened Bnet app.
Diablo III was ready to play, at version 2.0.6
Clicked Play
While authenticating, D3 client informs there's a new Patch, and will restart.
Game closes.
Bnet app starts download, but progression bar gets stuck at 1%.
After a few seconds the bar disappear, and Play button becomes available again.
Clicking Play resulted in the same behavior as before.

I tried twice, and now it worked, without any changes in settings.
Having an issue applying patch. What I have done is click my diablo program on desktop, clicked play, game starts says diablo needs to restart to apply patch, now I have waiting on another installation or update. Can't click play or anything. Been doing it for 20 minutes.

Anyone have this same problem?
Open up Activity Monitor, find "Agent" in your process list; it will very likely be red, and have (Not Responding) beside the name. Click on it, then click the little X icon upper left corner of window below the red close-window dot. Select "Force Quit" from the dialog that pops up.

The moment Agent drops out of your process list, go to the Battle.net launcher and fire up D3. Once it gives you the alert that it needs to be updated, it should start downloading properly.
I was having the same issues, but all of a sudden the patch started to download in the Battlenet Launcher.

However, the file is like over 11GB...so im assuming the game is re-downloading itself all over again? (auto repair or something??). I cant imagine the patch being that big. The patch notes are there in the launcher though...

Somewhat worked...

Opened task manager -> Went to second tab (labeled process's) -> Closed "Agent.exe 32" -> Closed battle.net launcher ->re-opened Battle.net launcher and patch started downloading.

I tried just opening D3 after closing the process first but that did nothing, so went back in, re-closed and then closed battle.net

EDIT: So I didn't un-install game or anything and this: http://i.imgur.com/dP1srCu.png
Yeah Blizzard, its still happening... any thoughts?
