Two glaring issues that require your ATTN

General Discussion
A few months ago, I went over a bit of our philosophy surrounding why we only allow five active buffs to be viewable at any time, but I wanted to let you know what we’re still very aware of this concern. We think that it would be great to be able to view more than five of your active buffs, and we’re looking into solutions that would ensure players are able to view buffs that are important to them, while also keeping UI clutter to a minimum. Ideally, we’d like to avoid situations where a portion of your screen is overwhelmed by buff icons (for example, just having your buffs stack across the bottom of your bar) and we’re still experimenting with different ways to present that information in a format that works well for Diablo III.

It's great that you mentioned it but it's still bad game design. As a barbarian, I can break this by hitting a few shrines, then I can't see my own WotB. I'm sorry but that's not excusable, it's not difficult to reproduce, or difficult to fix.
1.) Show ALL buffs on characters:
I play a monk, I always have a barb friend with me and there are shrines all over the damn place (sometimes 2 are literally right next to each other). Showing only 5 of the sometimes 7-8+ active buffs on my character is RIDICULOUS. Help us take your game more seriously by presenting all of the necessary information to us.

2.) Show a proper tool-tip in the AH and on message-linked items.
Very simple. We get this only when we are in a game lobby. Why? Show us the change in life, damage and protection when we click on an item from the AH or from the chat. Now, you may ask how accounts with multiple characters are handled. One little note could be added that states: "Tool-tip comparison is based on the SELECTED hero." SIMPLE. DONE. It compares the item only to the character you have used most recently. Not that hard, folks!

Thanks for your time!

It may not sound hard, but it isn’t an easy code change. It often takes a great deal of work in order to update and alter our complex coding, and it’s actually been a notable tech investment to try to tackle this particular request for updated item comparison tooltips (which Lylirra mentioned here as well).

The good news is that we’ve been making a lot of progress, and this feature is planned for an upcoming patch. :)

Good to hear.

The easiest fix is to put shrine and Nephalem Valor into the left corner instead. This will free up at least 2 buff spaces.

Players are encouraged to keep skills such as frenzy and sweeping wind active. Since letting these skills drop off cause a loss in buff stacks the visual art for these skills are completely unreliable. Players need to watch buffs to keep them active efficiently.

A very simple fix would be to give these priority in the buff line up regardless of when they are activated.

Sometimes it feels like you guys waste so much time finding THE RIGHT SOLUTION. Why don't you let us unlock the number of buffs shown in the current format in a UI option, so that people bottered by the clutter can keep it to the current limit.

Use that as a temporary bandaid while you work on that amazing solution that will fit with D3. As a monk, this silly issue is annoying, even more so considering it's been close to a year the game is out.

Maybe in the Gameplay settings create a checkbox that allows the player to CHOOSE what he wants. Whether it be Show all buffs or show only five buffs or w/e

If you want to remove clutter, how about allowing us to get rid of the chat screen? Also, I'd rather have all of my buffs visible across the bottom of the screen.

I'm sorry if i just don't seem able to understand the reason, i think of the UI as flawed in the respect of the buff icon limit.
The UI is flawed because this limitation hinders gameplay.
The UI is flawed because most players will at some point be at the mercy of a limited UI.
The UI is flawed because it adds to the incompletness of the game, i really like the game, i do - but still have this nagging feeling that something is missing; and this is one of the things i feel strongly about.. the UI..

The sad truth is that i find myself play more and more on my DH, and therefore less and less on my monk (P100) because of this. In MP10 (or just high MP in general) gameplay it is really bad for the game when you have to "guess" timers on certain buffs rather than focusing on the gameplay itself.

The worst thing that can happend now is that some buffs gets priority over others in the "5 buff freakshow". All buffs are important!!!

So to sum it up : Usefull clutter is not clutter :)

I often think that if the original programmers had enough foresight, this wouldn't even be a problem.

Items have 6 affixes and could have more. Would be common sense to program 6-affix stat searching. Instead, we got 3 affixes to search for.

In a game where there's constant upgrading and changing of gear, and gear traded via the AH, it would be common sense to have a system in place that allows you to compare gear. Instead, that function doesn't exist and we're lucky that we can even link items to chat.
Its not just that we can't see all the buffs... some of them don't even have icons! Bash +% damage for example. I have to have my character screen open while playing to ensure that my builds utilise it properly. Why not have options to display the buff or not?

That way users can choose to be overwhelmed by icons if they want to rather than you choosing for them! Some are more important than others, for example I don't particularly care about seeing my war cry or battle rage shout durations because I spam them so often they never go down. However I really like seeing my sprint icon because it's not always obvious when it is running out. As soon as I pick up a shrine it gets bumped to icon #6 on my bar and I don't get to see this information!
we’re still very aware of this concern

You clearly don't care though.

It may not sound hard, but it isn’t an easy code change.

You're a multi-billion dollar company, please, don't lecture us about how easy/difficult it is.

And you have zero understanding of game development, coding on this level, how businesses operate, or anything that would give credence to anything you have to say on the matter. CMs are not lawyers, they do not make money by convincing people of things that may be untrue. People who don't know anything calling them liars just gives them justification to not bother posting, so that people like you can complain about how they're not posting enough and clearly don't care about the game or the community. It's lose-lose with people like you, unless that feature you want shows up in the game right ****ing now!
be nice if the item I compare would take into account a set bonus!

We don't give a crap about minimalistic UI for PS3/4 gamers - just change the damn line of code and allow us to see ALL buffs and meanwhile you can take another 6 months figuring that out...

Same goes to those damn spacec between each 3 digits on gold ammounts... It's like - HOW BAD can Blizzard be to not fix these yet?
Here are some ideas on how to free up some space for buffs:

1. Change the location/look of how NV buff looks
2. For all castable buffs (wizards armor, barbarian shouts, monk mantras, etc) just in-cooperate the buff display inside the skill icon you used to cast it, for example, if barbarian casts shout, you get a 'swirly thigie' or frame around shout's skill icon while the buff provided is active, not a seperate box icon above all skills.
3. Make animated buffs more pronounced - display as much buffs as you can in a clear manner on the very character, not in UI.

Could you at least give buffs a priority for showing?

Like, in the OP's example, he's got several buffs from himself, let's say:
MoC
Activated MoC
BoH
Cyclone

And then from the Barb:
War Cry

And then a shrine:
Frenzied

And then NV stacks:
5

So that's 7 buffs, and we can only see 5.

But what if instead of seeing the oldest (currently the newest buff will be invisible), you prioritize so that the ones that are about to expire the soonest are showing? This would allow monks to see how much time is left on cyclone or BoH or their MoC spam.

Even better, prioritize *your own* buffs before other people's. As great as it is to know that I have War Cry on, there's nothing I can do about that if it falls off. However, if I know that MoC activation is about to end, I would love to know that because there IS something I can do about it.

So if you don't want to "clutter" the screen, can you at least make the selection process smarter?

I also, for the record, don't understand how adding extra buffs will clutter the screen. Just extending that row of buffs will not make a big difference.

While you're at it. Can you make buffs from skills like Deadly Reach - Foresight visible as icon? Many people don't use this skill just because they can't keep buff up. I was using it for some time, but than realised that I lose too much time for checking if it's up. :)
Any chance for an option to lock buffs so you can't right click them off?

Can't count how many times on my DH (and only my DH, for some reason, probably because of the ranged attack) I right click to attack a mob at the bottom of my screen and realize I've accidentally right-clicked off my neph stacks.

Call me a noob, but in the heat of the moment it happens.
While your at it, could you please take any socketed gems when comparing weapons with the same amount of sockets so you can immediately figure out whether its a increase or decrease of dmg without having to remove the socket or something to that effect

Word up! It's only 2013; coding 5 buffs on the HUD is already a huge accomplishment. Like any other multi-billion dollar successful company, Blizzard needs to prioritize any future game changes. This change would definitely need an entire new department to implement the displaying of additional buffs. Plus, who wants stuff all over their screen when the PS3 version hits the market?

Har.. har..

Nice way to take a quote out of context. That particular reply from the blue was about getting item comparison in the AH's, not about the buffs.
