Greetings, stranger. I'm not surprised to see your kind here. I'm (mostly) a designer by trade and love making Diablo 3 compositions in my downtime. Here are a few threads I've made recently in regards to fun ideas or speculation;

Treasure Goblin Event - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/8891779857
Player Leaderboards - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9245584813
Expansion Characters Infographic - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9234833492

So my most recent idea is the prospect of a Treasure Hunter NPC that appraises and catalogs the Legendary gear you find.

Introducing Poltahr the Treasure Hunter!

  • Unlocked through an early quest
  • Travels alongside Hadrig and is found at his Caravan

  • Appraise your Loot! (Picture - http://i.imgur.com/mpwVU90.jpg)

  • Will appraise your legendary's for a price (gold sink)
  • Only dropped or crafted legendary's can be appraised
  • Gives your loot a score out of 5 based on how well it rolled
  • Catalogs your gear (see next section)

  • Build your Collection! (Picture - http://i.imgur.com/3fxBklR.jpg)

  • "Gotta catch'em all" style challenge!
  • Browse all the legendary's you have found
  • Entries can be shared in chat
  • Improve individual scores by finding better rolls and reappraising

  • Climb the Treasure Hunter Ranks! (Picture - http://i.imgur.com/bA2ChKi.jpg)

  • Earn a treasure hunter title that improves with progress
  • Prefix (i.e; Master) is based on Score, Affix (i.e; Collector) is based on Completion
  • View interesting statistics about your looting experience
  • Lists your most valuable piece of loot

  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously this is for anyone that is a huge fan of collectible aspects in games. That can mean collecting all the artifacts in Uncharted, hunting down the 100 Gold Skulltula's in The Legend of Zelda or (of course) catching all the Pokemanz in Pokemon. It would also create a great extension of the endgame for those interested. Every new legendary drop means a chance to add to or improve your catalog and thus climb the treasure hunter ranks.

Every beam of light would be even more exciting!
I wrote this a while ago, you might enjoy.

    :D
Anyone else like the idea? :(

I spent a whole 4 hour flight working on this :P, would love some more feedback!

    Collecting is fun! .. right?
How can you determine an item's "score" when there are random rolls as part of the affix. You would have to give each affix a score that some may not agree with ( is IAS or CC or CHd or Vit better)

I think people would be detracted by the fact that they pay gold to basically catalogue an item.

I don't really care if it goes in either way, but I'd rather them work on another artisan (Mystic)

    cool mock-ups though
I actually do like the idea. It would definitely give me a reason to farm again, it looks like fun.
Good idea. Just change the star rating to a number from 1 to 100 or 1000

Good idea OP. Would give farming at least some meaning.
You should really rename the topic. You can get more hits that way.
It definitely has potential, although the appraisal/ranking element will need a lot of work. I love the fact that you're even done mock-ups of the interface, though, so +1. Nice job.
Great idea, it will appeal to players to try and collect more

Yeah this is the tricky part, when it comes to the "random properties" on a legendary. It would be up to the devs to weight stats in relation to scores. Obviously it would have to be after the itemization changes as that could be a big shift in what is considered valuable.

Otherwise the score would be based on how high the guaranteed stats rolled given their range on the item.

Maybe. As I said it's focused to give more meaning to legendaries regardless of if they are well-rolled or not. The gold cost is purely as a sink (god knows the game needs more), and obviously cataloging your drops is completely optional so if someone thought it was a waste of gold or time they wouldn't be missing out on any type of benefits. Basically, use of the feature is not mandatory, it's more of a "fun" addition to those that are interested in the collection game.

    Thanks!
    i like the idea. :D
    Love it. Implement it!
    nice work.
Tho im not a collector so i would not really care unless it has benefits
You are very creative and an asset to this game.

    Keep it up OP.
that blizzard hasn't launched the game with even 1/50th of the good ideas on this forums shows how apthetic the company has become.
