Regarding Journey to Un'Goro Card Packs

We have seen a number of posts from our community today regarding Journey to Un'Goro packs and the possibility that they might be distributing an abnormally high amount of duplicate cards. We want to assure everyone that we have looked into this concern and have found that Journey to Un'Goro card distribution is working properly, both at a per card and per rarity basis, and is consistent with previous Hearthstone releases.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We really do appreciate all the feedback, even when related to possible bugs or concerns around the game.

Wow, I guess the 50 packs I purchased with in game gold that yielded me 26 different cards with 5+ duplicates is normal. Ok...

Update: I bought another ten packs with in game gold (totaling 60) and received 4 cards with 5+ duplicates and a legendary, duplicate, to what I opened in the first 50 packs.

I'm sure that part of the reason why it was brought up was because people just wanted more packs :P

Then it's time to improve your pack rewards. They feel underwhelming. No customer is happy.

TLDR: we have 17.03% chances of getting legendaries in this set than the usual 15.15%.

Can some one give a ratio list of legendary vs number of new cards for each expansion so far?

Edit: I will be looking it up too. An ideal ratio would be Total legendary count vs number of new cards in the expansion and Total neutral legendary count vs legendary count in the expansion.

Here it is (based on

Classic: 29 vs 233 ~ 12.45%
GVG: 20 vs 123 ~ 16.26%
TGT: 20 vs 132 ~ 15.15%
WOG: 20 vs 132 (not counting cthun and beckoners) ~15.15%
MSG: 20 vs 132 ~ 15.15%
JTU: 23 vs 135 ~ 17.03%

Seems like we have about 1.8 % more chances of getting Legendaries than before.

Blizzard, you need to get a better balance when it comes to opening packs. If this your intended long term model I can assure you it is not that fun and it is exceptionally expensive for what you get.

Kinda, but a more legitimate explanation is that people just don't remember that something similar happened with previous pre-orders, and since the last round of releases actually DID have a card distribution bug, it has people more on-alert and paranoid about it this time around.

I admit that I had a mild amount of skepticism because I was on the unlucky end of the spectrum with duplicates in Un'goro(since I filled out much more of my collection with my MSoG preorder), but that's all it really is. If I think back to TGT, I received 6 copies of poisoned blade, 4 GOLDEN poisoned blades, and zero Mysterious Challengers. That's just how randomness works. Streaks happen. It doesn't mean you have a voodoo curse on you or that you're abnormally lucky. You're within the normal expected range of RNG.

community seems pretty mad right now.

imo, there are too many compulsory legendaries this expansion, and not enough ways to earn then.

hell, I opened 100 packs and only got 1 quest, warlock, which i have no interest in playing (+ i dont have the other warlock legendary which is pretty much required in a discard deck).

i also got 2 copies of hemet.

Obviously people just wanted more packs because of the mistakes made in the previous set.
However I do think in the future, blizzard/team 5, should be more generous with the cards distributed in packs ie more epics and no duplicate legendary's from your collection unless it is golden.

Obviously packs are seeded so it would require an entirely different distribution model for what packs contain

The preorder was a complete rip off and you know it.
I got like 7-8 Legendaries in 56 packs for MSG, so I knew my pulls were going to suck this time around XD

(Kun, Sergeant Sally, the Burgle guy, Wrathion, Kazakus, White Eyes, Aya, and Raza the Chained. Dunno if I got another one after that or not)

No, there is just a higher percentage of legendaries in the set than previously. The odds of opening one is still ~1% (1 in 20 packs) on average.
