Just variance. Matchmaking is based on your rank and that's all.

That is a really really bad idea and you should be well aware of it :)
With each expansion people spending cash to purchase cards increase the gap from those who spend earned gold thus you should of course match up people with a similar card base.

This would possibly increase the time it takes to find matches but try out a few creterias. Current state is aweful if you don't have too many cards.

Try it yourself. Make a deck with only the cards you'll get if you just got the game, see how many matches you win in Standard out of 100. I bet you that it's just the ones where the bot opponent mess up the rotation and sit idle.
lol you all are funny arguing over things you all can't even PROVE. Look I will never ever believe any game developer when it comes to their game because they are as crooked as can be especially when it comes to getting money out of their player base. We already know that Activision has come up with an algorithm that will match players in the best hope of making money.

They say they have not implemented it but do you actually think they would tell you if they had?
I lol at people saying that the burden of proof is on the side claiming that the system is rigged. It doesn't necessary work this way especially if one side has complete control over the entire system. No matter which evidence you and I figured out, Blizzard could just change the code and make such evidence invalid. It's similar to the whole Volkswagen's "defeat system" scandal, it was exposed because some high managers in VW effed up and leaked the information. Otherwise, the rigged system would never be figured out.

Therefore the burden of proof should be on Blizzard's side to prove that they are innocent. Just open their source code for auditors to check and review constantly. Hearthstone is just a game, so I'm certainly they do not contain any top-secret code that a freshly graduated coder cannot come up with on his own. What creates the value of the game - Blizzard's characters - are protected by other legal means anyway, they are safe regardless of the code is opened to the public or not.
We're talking about the same company that makes devious patents that fix match making for profits. Look at their other games like Destiny 2. Filled with devious money making schemes. Blizzard is an Activision slave now, so expect nothing less.

Try learning about what Blizzard's corporate structure actually is before you start blaming it for your losses.

Better yet, accept that your success is under your control, and work to get better.

Dean if your confidant in that statement then explain these pictures of last months ladder experience in which I did end up playing against a few legend players around rank 5 and up.

Keep in mind his comment is basically that the system only works around rank and no other variance. Just saying.

The OP specifically called out ranks 8-10 where that matchmaker only cares about your current rank. Legend works slightly differently. Some of you have already linked this post, but I'll do it again in case you want to know more about casual or Legend level matchmaking.
