Sustain classification ruined Abathur

General Discussion
Am I the only one annoyed at Abby's forced classification as sustain? Of the sustain heroes, hes the only one that actually has to spec into sustain to come anywhere near the other sustain heroes who he is forced into matches against. Carapace is the most meh shield on its own, and some of us like to play Abby as a specialist, but doing so gives the enemy team an advantage now because they'll have a sustain hero that doesn't have to sacrifice to essentially be a support.

On top of this, sustain classification means a much higher chance of being put into a game vs. Tyrande, who hard counters Abathur and makes soaking with your body all but impossible for fear of instant death from owl spam.
Don't forget the laning changes which ruined his global pushing presence as he no longer accelerates towers/keeps running out of ammo.

Every hero is only allowed one playstyle now :]
I'm sick of it. Doesn't matter if you're dominating the solo lane when you're against an abathur because he has a free global heal on a 5s cool down. I hate this being the way everyone plays abathur; bring back the preseason days of mines and locusts being the meta.
Abathur is the cutest video game character I have ever seen

If you talk about QM: Nope he hasn't. I almost always pick symbiote build with him with pure damage focus. And guess what - I not only top hero damage with that build but also siege damage and most XP. You don't have to go sustain build and you don't have to go the lame siege build with monstrosity. Not every map needs a sieger. Also most heroes have ways to spec into more sustain. It's not Aba's job alone to shield everyone. He can't do it properly anyway competing against a Tassadar or Tyrande.

Taking a damage build instead of a carapace build when you are the "solo healer" against a Tyrande severly reduces your win rate because while you do more damages, your team will always lose to poke. Which is a very easy thing to do with a Tyrande.
Any half good opponent will push your teamates out of objectives by poking alone and your damages won't change a thing.
I'm sure they'll fix it whenever they get around to changing him, its just that nobody knows when that will happen. Blizz is veeery cautious about any changes to Abby or Vikings, its hard to keep them in a state even resembling something stable.

Only reason I'm sure they'll change it is because its very reminiscent of Jo's old Knight Takes Pawn talent. A single lvl 1 talent gave a hero with very bad waveclear suddenly very good waveclear. Same thing is happening with Abby. A hero with little to no ability to heal, can choose a lvl 1 talent and suddenly have very serviceable, even good, healing. He's even being matched against other heal-capable character solely because he has this talent at lvl 1.

They'll either remove it entirely or fold it into his baseline kit. If they make part of it baseline they'll either remove the talent or make it buff his baseline healing.

just play draft, brah
It's a bit like Varian's dilemma, IMO.

If they don't put Abathur in this sustain role, he could be up against a team that has no healer at all. It would be very beneficial then to go the healing talent route.
I guess people did that and so they decided to come up with this sustain role, because a bad healer is better that none.

Edit: it may be a good move to rework the talents a bit so that he has no healing anymore. That would open up the choices (and he will probably be in the support roster in that new role system, where healing might not be included). But I don't really play Abathur so other might have a better clue if that is really a good idea to follow).
No thanks, I've seen enough useless Monstrosity only Abathurs in QM. As for vs. Tyrande matches, Abathur should be hatting only when it matters or if there is no XP to be gained anywhere on the map from hatting. Otherwise he should be using his hat to gain extra XP for his team. During teamfights and around objective, he can use the hat to heal, it really depends on the situation and a huge amount of the skill needed to play Abathur is based on judgment and being able to read the situation. Remember that Tyrande, especially with the troll owl build you see in QM, quickly runs out of mana. She can't really heal all that much early on which is why she's such a bad hero overall. Use the fact that Tyrande can't waveclear either to push out lanes and gain XP with your hat at the same time.

In all, most people just can't play Abathur skillfully enough for him not to be a liability. You need to be able to get far far more XP than any other hero to make up for the lack of a hero in a teamfight before level 10. Never take monstrosity, I've NEVER seen monstrosity be the difference in a game. The only way you'll ever be able to destroy a structure with monstrosity is if your team is winning hard, or losing hard enough that the other team can end and doesn't need to defend. Monstrosity also takes too much of your attention away. Abathur is a global hero that should be aware of everything that is happening on the map and will hat to save a hero or get a kill when needed. All that while gaining XP and making sure his team gets and maintains a good XP lead. Not even the top aba players can do that while micromanaging monstrosity so it doesn't suicide.
See? All your QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ about QM comps is changing the heroes themselves.

GG

Cry moar.
Playin Aba with specialist build in 2018. Nice joke :D His other builds are just the biggest joke atm, especially after tower changes. He push one fort by himself at min 10. Even one enemy hero is more than enough to depush his lane. He needs way big buffs to his locust builds and mines. His sustain build is the only thing that makes Aba worth playing currently.
