Game homogenization

We're seeing this right now. Each day that passes by, we see less and less resistance to the addition of Mei and Pharah in the HotS roster.

As much as I want Mei and Pharah to come to the game, I want them to never come just because of this tool here more.

And yet, every time a new hero comes out:

WHY DID YOU PUT THAT MECHANIC IN THE GAME?!? That isn't a MOBA mechanic!!!

HEROES SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO KILL ENEMIES BY PUSHING THEIR "R" BUTTON!!!

Well, they shouldn't be able to do it with little to no counterplay. This ultimate is fine on Karthus because there are a lot of ways not to get hit by the damage. Shields are extremely common in League and there are also effects like self-stasis (Zhonya's Hourglass, if it's even still a thing, is basically Ice Block that you can buy), plus it doesn't come with a reveal, a massive slow, and a free recast if it kills someone. Not to mention you can just make sure the Karthus doesn't get fed, making him do little to no damage with his ult.
We are getting what we asked for. Every time someone cries about a mechanic they can't or won't deal with.
*sigh*
Good ol' days of diversity
Garden of terror isn't the start, it's just another one of the many changes slowly turning HotS into a LoL clone. I liked Garden of Terror. I Liked old Hahamura. i liked Hammer's BFG being able to actually do structure damage. I liked every support not being a damn healbot. Azmodan wasn't a glorified burst assassin. i liked stealth actually being stealthy.

All that got ruined by whining casuals who refused to get better. Soon talents will vanish and we'll have item shops and rune pages, and only a single 3-lane map with designated lanes for every cham-errr...'Hero'.

I feel like this is the beginning of the end for the game I loved, and there's really nothing to replace it.
I'm starting to see a pattern here. Games start of with unique and flavour, Blizzard kills it by homogenization. Look at World of Warcraft. Look at the sub count rising from Vanilla through WotLK when everything was unique and different. Then the cata pre patch hits, and subs start dropping. Classes start to get to look like each other, and progressively, sub count reaches an all time low during MoP, when all classes are basically a reskin of each other. You can argue what you want, the sub count speaks for itself.

Hots is the same. People play this because it is unique. HGC kills off the fun because the 'pro's' can't deal with different mechanics (skins being banned because they throw off so called skilled players) and now we have come to the part where maps are reworked into reskinned versions of other maps. This isn't the only thing that is killing the game, but it is sure going to play a major part in it.

If they wanted to release this map, don't rework garden of terror but release it as a new map. Reskinning good maps into Alterac Snowballing 2.0 for the sake of keeping HGC matches below 10 minutes is not a healthy game design and is going to lose you players.

I don't understand why Blizzard is alienating themselves so hard from their fanbase.

Anyone else getting the impression that Blizzard is doing way too much to make everything homogenized?

Yeah, the moment they removed ammo.
The ball started rolling when 2.0 landed with the developers cutting corners by upgrading a large amount of skins to legendary status and being hit or miss with them ever since then. Then there are gem skins which started popping up with Alexstrasza first and have become the norm since then.

After that the developers declared war on the Specialists. There has not been a specialist released since Probius roughly a year and a half ago with quite a few of them having been tinkered with to make them less potent in doing what they do best. The removal of ammunition was just a giant slap in the face of specialists across the board.

Then there are the....reworks that the developers have become fond of doing. Xul, Sylvanas, Tyrande, Azmodan, and Sylvanas come to mind as those that were tweaked with or reworked entirely. Sylvanas lost the ability to shut structures, creep, and non-boss mercenaries with her abilities in exchange for an impressive 6 damage increase to her auto attacks. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Azmodan who has been tweaked so much he is a shadow of his former self.

Now they are messing with the maps because reasons.

I dunno about the rest of you, but I am protesting all these changes by not using my wallet anymore.
Garden of terror isn't the start, it's just another one of the many changes slowly turning HotS into a LoL clone.. I liked every support not being a damn healbot.

Cuz you know in LoL there are 2 or 3 healers? Right?
In that context, League and Dota have "supports" that can assist their teams in multiple ways besides healing and shielding. Look at the most recent League release, Pyke, an assassin support, if you put him in Hots, he would just be an assassin, there's nothing in his kit that would make him a "support" class in Hots, while in League he literally can't be played as anything else but a support assassin.
Blizzard decided to remove items and and injected the trinity model into mobas, and now hots has an entire class that its obligatory in all matches and all they are allowed to do is heal. The game suffers from diversity and balance issues because of it.
the trinity of tank dps and healer is impossible to balance in MOBAs or FPS games.A Tank class or a Healer class without them either being garbage because they can't do their only job, or they are op, if they do their job too well negating any damage done by the enemy DPS or by themselves being good at DPS.
I would probably play Dota for their diverse playstyles and builds that you can do for each hero but cant stand the slow turn rates and long duration games, though they recently go turbo.

you could always play dota or LoL

how many maps they got. just one?

Considering this trainwreck of a game is slowly but surely devolving into an inferior version of LoL, this might turn being an actually good advice. Removing from maps and heroes what makes them unique, game being dumbed down for newer players, heroes nerfed into uselesness or being allowed to remain broken for the sake of E-Sports, etc... If HOTS wants to discard everything making it stand out and turn into League 0.5, then why should people just not play the original League instead?

I'm just not playing the game anymore. If I wanted to play LoL, I'd go play LoL or the other 200 LoL ripoff there are.
Seems like alot of complaining. I like the changes. I like malthaels changes and Tyrande's changes and Chromie changes and raynor Azmos changes. I like the garden rework too and the new heroes. I like this video game and you complaining about how they work on it is just complaining.
The less people think the better slaves they are.
My very "non-popular" theory is...

Garden of Terror was actually a very confusing map for some (probably most) players out there... sure, you are probably reading and thinking "what???" but I cannot count how many times I saw people have 0 clue on getting the seeds and how to use the Terror... how to time "when" to get the Terror, etc.. and many other situations..

I liked this map a lot because there was a LOT going on... but being honest I think It's the map where I think I've seen more flaws on the way people play the "mechanics"..

I don't know if the changes are bad or good... it does feel it lost a bit of its unique touch.. but time will tell

Well, with your logic shoudnt they change Volskaya to 3 Triglav's pushing the lanes? Cause, you know, SOME people have no clue how to controll it?

I'm not saying "that" logic is absolute and it's def the cause of the rework... but I wouldn't be surprised that (data-wise) GoT was probably the worst in terms of people knowing what to do..

Regarding Volskaya, I completely agree it may suffer from the same issue but who knows..

Even if that were the case, Blizz's solution to this is intellectually bankrupt.

Granted, I understand that GoT was a very confusing map, especially during the laning phase when an objective was up. However, to just say 'screw it, we're not even gonna try to diversify' is kind of disheartening.

I agree.

I think they probably went for the safest bet and simplified the map to a "basic-potato-understandable" mechanic.. good move? bad move? who knows... time will tell...
