Belial, Lord of Lies [*NOT CDC 6*]

Hero and Skin Suggestions
Belial, Lord of Lies, comes to the nexus as a deceptive and versatile melee specialist weak in direct combat but with a multitude of dangerous tricks up his sleeve.

Trait/Ultimate - Subterfuge: Belial dashes a very short distance towards an allied hero. Both he and the ally become fully invisible for .5 seconds, and Belial becomes a copy of the target. While copying a hero, Belial mimics their trait and auto attack properties but can't use abilities. His minimap icon becomes theirs and his health bar appears as the target's regardless of Belial's current health. Pressing R returns him to his own form. If he takes sufficient damage to reduce him to 25% of his true health total or if the apparent health of the illusion would be reduced to 0, the illusion is dispelled. (45 second cooldown)

This ability is available from level 1.

Q - Burning Lies: Belial shoots out a spread of 3 piercing flame bolts that travel across the ground slowly, deal low damage, and slow. Belial is slightly healed for each hero hit. (5-6 second cooldown)

W - Elusive Retaliation: Belial winds up briefly, then dashes a medium distance in the targeted direction. For 1 second after completing the dash, Belial may cast Burning Lies once without it going on cooldown. (13-15 second cooldown)

E - Deceiver Ambush: Belial sets an invisible Snake Demon ambush party in wait around an allied or neutral (mercenary) minion. The trap takes several seconds to arm, gives vision and lasts 90 seconds. When the trapped unit is damaged by a tower or enemy hero, the Snake Demons manifest after a brief delay and attack whatever triggered the trap. (20-25 second cooldown)

R1 - Lord of Lies: Belial's trait now allows him to use the basic abilities of the mimicked hero. In addition, when he mimics a hero he gains a percentage of their current health as temporary health as long as the illusion is active. His true health (including temporary health) is still hidden by the health bar of the copied hero.

R2 - Lord of Hell: This ultimate replaces 'Subterfuge'. Passive: Belial's Burning Lies and attacks do 25% more damage to heroes and he gains 25% more health permanently. Active: Belial assumes his true, monstrous form for 4 seconds. While in his true form, he becomes huge, gains a large amount of armor, and blocks pathing with his body. (100 second cooldown) In true form, his basic abilities are replaced with the following:

Q - Arm Smash: After a long delay, Belial brings an arm smashing down on the targeted area dealing high damage. Belial is animation-locked through the entire cast time.

W - Infernal Breath: After a moderate delay, Belial breathes a blast of green fire that sweeps across the area directly in front of his body for medium damage. Belial is animation-locked through the entire cast time.

E - Hellfire Meteor: After a long delay, a meteor crashes down on the targeted area for low damage. This ability does NOT animation lock Belial and can be cast on a very short cooldown.

Belial is an extremely fragile (think Genji) specialist with two play-styles corresponding to his choice of ultimate. He begins the game with access to a relatively weak/low damage/long CD set of abilities that focus on deceiving and harassing enemies. Deceiver Ambush (E) can be used to control mercs and harass enemies who would try to take them, or it can act as a 'stealthy' way to send a pushing force to do some damage to enemy structures. Burning Lies (Q) offers a source of sustain, a bread and butter damage ability for pushing and poking, and a way to discourage aggression. Elusive Retaliation (W) gives him a way out when he's confronted with a fight he can't win.

If he takes Lord of Lies at level 10, he can double down on this deceptive style by making the strength of his allies his own. On the other hand, if he takes Lord of Hell he beefs up his damage and health to become a more hands-on fighter with an ultimate that turns him into a real engine of destruction. All of his true form abilities require timing to land, but his higher damage breath and slam are both gated behind long, locked-in cast times. If he wants to get the most damage out of his ultimate he needs to commit to a high-risk high-reward ability, and he probably won't get more than one or two chances to land it. On the other hand, if he's feeling less ballsy he can always let loose a barrage of low damage meteors to soften up his enemies. Finally, he can always just use his huge body as a living wall to trap opponents; but even with armor he's squishy as hell.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. To the mods that ostensibly deleted my first post, I realized I did a bad but let my idea live even if it's not in the contest! Please?
Nice concept!
I often hear people want Belial in his true form, but IMO making it an ultimate ot something (like you did) is the only way (mostly because he has no legs/lower body :P)

I like that you made the "deceptive" aspect work with things other than stealth, but also without messing with enemy UI or stuff like that, which other concepts have suggested (and which I believe would be obnoxius more than fun for anyone)

I do have a question: what would Belial look like when not in his true form?
Not the little kid from Caldeum?

Lastly, about this:

I really doubt the forum mods deleted your previus thread.

This version is a relatively long post, and I think those are more likely to trigger the anti-spam bot to incorrectly tag them as spam and hide them.
It's an annoying bug that has been around since... Well, always AFAIK.

Also, the CDC is community-made and managed, not anything "official", so I doubt the mods would consider that when deciding which threads to "allow" or not (and actually, it's very comon for CDC participants to get their forums deleted by the spam-filter bug).
I think its more if you edit your main thread too many times in quick secession that it'll count as spam, same if you edit it within a hour of posting it so its better to post it all at once to avoid that.

Oh..! Ah, in my mind (having wrote this all up at 5 am on very little sleep) my post got deleted because I submitted for the competition 3 days too late. I *did* make an immediate edit though.

Sorry, I'm new to the forums. Well, I'd love to be in the competition and flesh the concept out more. Maybe I should PM a mod? Thanks!

Ah, and thanks for the feedback! I imagine him in his first stage boss form; the one that's roughly a very large humanoid in stature, probably scaled down a little for the Nexus but still with the stature befitting a demon lord.

Edit: Just realized @Damian is the judge of the competition. Err, any chance I could still jump in? I'll edit the title if you give me the thumbs up.
Sadly your too late mate sorry :( always the 7th one for ya though near the end of the year/start of next year, also welcome to the forums mate :D they should really have a pinned thread about the spam bot problem so many new people get caught by it now.

Hello, Omni! I am always happy to see a new face around this community, and I am quite elated that your concept seems well-constructed. It is an interesting take on the character to be sure. As the host of the CDC, I wanted to regrettably inform you that the submission deadline has passed, and the first week of judging has already been completed.

I encourage you to continue creating concepts, and perfecting the craft. The next CDC will be in a couple months, either November or December, depending on differing factors. I look forward to what you might submit in the future!
