The Art is the only thing saving Blizzard's games.

General Discussion
The underlying structure that determines what skills do, what range they have, how much damage they do, how much they heal, etc; Basically, the NUMBERS, are a confusing mess of imbalance. Even if it's just fantasy, things still have to make at least some physical sense!

The Artists, Designers, and Composers are the only thing saving Blizzard's games. Everything else is just rubbish. All of these hero and map reworks look like mass developer confusion to me.

The hallmark of a great video game is to have an idea and stick with it. It either succeeds or fails. You don't just keep screwing around with things just because it's online and you can. If they had done that with online games in the 90s, no one would have purchased anything.

What we have now is a waste of time and money for all parties concerned - the players and the developers.
George Lucas created quite possible the best fantasy/science Fiction stories of our time. (arguably).
Those first films were magical.

Then as time went on, the people that worked with George and challenged his ideas were ejected from his life for various reasons.
During this time, George heard how great he was. For years, George Lucas had a constant i.v. drip of compliments.

In turn, that boosted his ego to tremendous hights.
Then, he created Jar Jar. As a result, he couldn't comprehend why people didn't like him. If he was so great, why did he create such a flop?

It was his ego and when he started to call fans "babies" he was lashing out because he had become convinced how great he was.

Blizzard is George Lucas now.
Diablo 1-2, warcraft, and starcraft were amazing. Now blizzard keeps making various forms of jar jar.
not exclusive to Blizzard, western games in general are pretty trashy these days, they forgot what makes games FUN. It's all graphics, DLC, and SJW pandering these days.

Jar Jar makes sense for George, because he was only ever interested in the child audience. He wanted to sell toys, not further Star Wars into adulthood.

No, George went off his rocker when he was pushing ideas like putting Darth Maul and Darth Talon together in a game and making it canon.

RIP LucasArts.
hey, don't forget about the music too..!

OMG HOW DARE YOU !?!?!?!?!?
Seriously the music is just epic, every single moment. John Williams is a genius.
I prefer a darker art style like original starcraft / diablo 2 as opposed to the family friendly care bear disney style that is in most blizzard games now

The sound/graphic/animation design is top notch though .. the art style is generic trash.

This very much. But I would include sc2 in there as well, as that game has awesome gruesome death animations/explosions, swarmy killer bugs and their infestation, terran machinery and their kickass music, super advanced aliens and their lasers and golden armada. This and I think the graphics for it were so polished that they aged quite well and will continue to age well for the next years. Game is like a fine wine and also an acquired taste(the competitive part of it, i.e: actual 1v1 ranked). The game gets !@#$ on a lot because 1# It's obviously very hard and 2# balance whining. Which imo is quite subjective.

and campaign(s) story is kind of bad

That's the best analogy i've ever read :D

D3 was the pinnicle of this... Jay Wilson was so friggin full of himself he just didn't understand the crap he created!

overwatch is heading in the same direction (but in a diffrent way) the game itself is great but they fail to fix the toxicity, atrocious matchmaker and broken ranked...

HotS does this with their maps! one of the strong points of the game... and devs ruin it time and time again...

Funny enough that makes the analogy even more true.
Blizzard keeps making their Jar Jar with Esports in their games that are not Esport ready. Blizzard likes their Esport Jar Jar so much despite how their fans don't give a crap about or it bogs down the quality of the game.

Overwatch has been in a balance nightmare starting 1 year ago in (augest?) when the Mercy rework came out that just caused the game to go down in a downward spiral from there.

Balance patches keep happening slowly with the quality of them being abhorrent. (Look at Hanzo rework) But it doesn't matter because they think "Well we still have people watching our esports so we have to be getting this right!

Same thing for hots. Terrible decision making on everyone's part when it comes to live design changes sometimes. "Oh heroes like Tassadar and Chen have been struggling for over a year now? Eh, lets just rework popular heroes that are being used frequently like Malfurion and Sonya because reasons."

But it doesn't matter when they keep patting themselves on the back with their jar jar esport. "Look how great this is! you just don't understand!"

Granted there are still some diamond in the rough changes here and there like that Diablo and Medivh reworked that happened earlier this year. But negatives far out shine the positives.

I don't expect the live design people to get everything right in balance changes. no one is perfect but what they need to do is get off their high horse and admit when they make a mistake when they do X thing to X character and change it back to how it is. (looking at you Malthael rework that no one wanted and made him an almost useless character now)
Blizzard changes things just to change it, even though it was fine just the way it was.
I agree with this.

The moment I realized HOTS' dev team had jumped the shark was when they altered Rexxar's 1 and D. For sure it's a minor thing but man that !@#$e was totally arbitrary and a new level of stupid. I envisioned a bunch of mid level devs trying impress with rows of empty starbucks or Dunkin coffee cups engaged in heavy debate about Rexxars D and how to improve it. Like their Apple and rexxar using 1 to control Misha wasn't inspired or simple enough. Dafuq? It was a 100% fabricated problem go fix real problems ..HOTS' has plenty to choose from why are we fixing rex's D. It made no sense. Judging by the state of the game, the team hasn't changed much.

sadly not just blizzard... blizzard either started this crap or jumped on the bandwagon but it's destroying games all over the place...

95% off the players don't give 1 flying !@#$ about those boring e-sports...

people like to PLAY games... not watch some no life bunch of nerds playing it for them...

Actually i used to really enjoy watching HOTS tournaments.... that was until I realized the game I play (solo) won't ever be consistently anything like the games on the streams till blizzard can fix their skill system, smurfs, bot problem, personal mmr etc. I still watch but not as much anymore.

Definitely the games were tons more exciting when this game was released (beta actually). Im not sure what happened. Most games now are protect the feeder, try to be in 3 places at once..... and defend against the suiciding cheesy specialist.
About hero changes.. sometimes they are needed.. but I understand a lot that aren't... like the time when they decided Jaina's auto attack should be significantly weakened because ("no one uses it "---- an outright lie.. we all did at the time). Not a complaint about her now.. she's fine but at the time... I was shaking my head and not happy with the playstyle change.
