Is Nazeebo a spec or mage?

General Discussion
I frequently play in games where Nazeebo is referred to as a mage, despite being classified as a spec. Frequently you will hear "Don't go double mage" if you pick an actual mage with a Naz.

What is your take? Is Nazeebo a Spec or a Mage?

Also a fun side note - Nova's hero description once said that she was a Mage. :)
"A sustained damage Mage who gains power when killing enemy Minions"

short answer he is both. Specialist isn't a very useful designation which is why no new characters are being released as specialists and why it's being removed as a label when the role update comes out. Naz has the same weaknesses as a mage so doubling up that can open u up to counters that exploit those weeknesses.

Also nova is a mage. Your confusing the fantasy term with the moba term. A mage in moba terms means that most of their damage comes from ranged abilities(and so are contrained by mana/cd)
I think he was stronger in lane pushing long time ago so he was kinda considered specialist, but they reworked him. He's a late game mage.
Honestly "Mage" is just as vague as a label as "Specialist" and neither helps alot in determining whether naz fits in a given situation or not.
Did you know what's spec ? Read the detail spec in game and you will know what's spec. Spec NOT ONLY clearing wave, change your mind.
If you're able to recognize what a mage is, you should be able to answer your own questions before posting on this board.
He is a mage, he deals his damage via ability damage. Specialist doesn't really mean anything, it used to be classification for siege heroes long ago but has changed from the old days.
Both
Why not both?
The terms are not mutually exclusive.
One’s a very vague role and the other is how they perform the role.
He's the leader of the toad army.
The specialist role was designated for characters that don't focus too much on actual fighting but rather unconventional means of supporting the team. Whether by pushing the lane, providing vision or gaining the team xp.

Nazeebo is unique in that he mostly behaves just like any other mage in the game like Jaina. His specialist trait is due to him having to focus on minions and camps so he can get stacks.
I consider Nazeebo an Assassin. He excels well at 1v1 scenarios and can spell doom for any one person he catches with his zombie orgy.

I think he was the bringer of the spiders?

I disagree with that.

"Mage" tells you that a hero relies on abilities for most of their damage output and generally when you draft a composition you want to vary your damage types and have one burst/sustain and/or Mage/AA hero.

agree, but this is also why other games dont just generalize things.

like look at this:
i threw in the wording so it would be easy to read without the mouseover popups. which btw, the popups actually tell you what each stat means. just saying.. no confusion as to what things like 'utility' should mean, because to different ppl it means different things. the devs spell it out for you.

it tells you exactly what you can expect from picking this.
-mostly basic attack damage with some ability damage
-medium damage, toughness, crowd control
-easy to play difficulty
-no real utility or mobility

hots has something kinda similar... but not really.
https://heroesofthestorm.com/en-us/heroes/

i mean its not accessible inside the game. it doesnt give you definite terms for each of the stats which leaves them open to whatever interpretation each individual might have. it leaves out details about the type of damage the heroes do.
Anyone else think the terminology in LoL is stupid?
AP and AD.
Ability Power and...Attack Damage.
First of all they both start with A, my first thought is the first word should be the same.
But second of all, no !@#$ attacks do damage.

Which is absolutely hilarious at this point. That'd basically qualify Butcher. And a boatload of traits offer just as much uniqueness.
And Ragnaros' and Alexstraza's traits are more identifying of their play.
