Optional 3rd Person View

General Discussion
Please provide/enable an option for us to switch to a "3rd Person View" when playing non-traditional fps characters, ie tanks, healers, builders etc. They are not traditional fps characters therefore should not be forced into an fps view. This will only add to the enjoyment of playing said characters and add more viability/control to those who play them.

Thank you.
not gonna happen.
I don't know if i would consider any of them traditional FPS characters, other than 76.

Why not? They already have it for Reinhart, people complain about not enough support/defensive heros, Blizzard is looking for ways to improve the game.

Adding this sort of feature would only improve things, there are no downsides other than the cost of developers to work on it.
Except that you get a visibility advantage in third person. So no.
I've always thought it'd be cool if the camera would switch to 3rd person during Genji & Winston ultimates to make them less disorienting.

What exactly is a tank, or a healer like Mercy going to do with a "visability advantage"? Not to mention they are at a huge disadvantage not having a typical FPS weapon / character design. Why do you suppose these characters are avoided?

That's exactly the reason.

In fact, I believe Jeff said the reason you get locked into emotes for the duration is they didn't want people emoting just to get a quick 3rd person view.

If you ever played or watched good Destiny players they would literally dance on control points just for the visibility it gave them.

I can tell you that tank/support roles are not avoided because of the camera angle. Straight up. More than anything, it has to do with the fact that both roles rely on the team playing as a team.

You know what sucks more than being confined to a first person view? Being a tank and finding out that after you've broken that choke-point and pushed to the objective your team didn't follow you through. Alternatively, being a support and watching your whole team go solo and trickle into the objective to feed kills to the opposing team. Those are the reasons people don't tend to pick the tank or support role.

Also... FPS... First-Person Shooter. The only person who actually needs a third-person view is Reinhardt, and only so he can see the full extent of his shield.

No, this will never happen it would give people an insane advantage and the fact you said 'what are they going to do with a visibility advantage' just proves you don't have any clue how big of an impact that would make.

We avoided 3rd person views (for the most part) because it creates "peaking" opportunities around corners.

I played C&C Renegade years ago with this option, and it's kind of crazy how reliant people were on it. It's a game-changer for sure if it's a default option for everyone.

Mercy might need it while healing, though, or at least an option. Unsure if I already said that earlier in this thread... ~_~
3rd person view would make Genji insanely OP.

Well at least during some ultimates (winston and genji) it would be good if we could switch to 3rd person. It is very hard to melee with this FOV right now.

which becomes 100% void as an argument when widowmaker ult and hanzo ability exists
Just like how battlefront gives you the choice of playing from first person or 3rd person, only third person gives way more visibility so there is no choice unless you want to gimp yourself.

Your argument doesn't make any sense. Your team won't always have a Hanzo or widow and their abilities that grant vision don't have 100% uptime, so you would still gain an advantage.

I think the "3rd Person View" should be granted to Winston and Genji when they are using their Melee based Ultimates, and to Mercy when using her healing/charging weapon. I also feel Lucio would greatly benefit from this as well due to his right click and wall riding.

Thank you for the reply, please consider the above.

me and a friend when back and forth with 2 widowmakers the ult was almost always up, so much so, that the enemy lost within minutes, they never even had a chance
Agreed that 3rd person view could be tied to more abilities for a smoother game play experience.

Reinhardt already gets it when using his shield. Can you imagine if you had to stare directly into your shield while playing Reinhardt all day? It would suck.

Similar improvements could be made to Genji and Winston's ultimate. Nobody is going to pop their ultimate just to peek around a corner.
