What do we escort on Dorado and Route 66?

What I am curious about is tge timeline of when the maps happen.

For example, we know that WP:G occurs before the Overwatch Recall was triggered by Winston, as the payload is the last satellite needed to get the global Overwatch network back online.

King's Row takes place after the Omnic spiritual leader was assassinated by Widowmaker.

I believe that Numbani takes place after Reaper and Widowmaker tried to steal Doomfist's guantlet and the gauntlet is in the process of being relocated to Numbani as a result of the attempted theft.

True, time location is also an important thing to take into account.

By the way, why are we escorting the omnic director on hollywood?

But if it is a nuke or whatever thing meant to explode, what would be the goal?
were delivering it to the deadlock gang.

Probably to prevent him from being assassinated/kidnapped since he's a famous Omnic director. Or it could be as trivial as him paying loads of money for the Overwatch team to escort him to a viewing/premiere, or an overly complex plan to make a new action movie.
I don't have a clue about the Route 66 map. I've wondered about the story there myself, but on Dorado, we're escorting some vital component of one of the hard light cities that Vishkar burned the favela to build as seen in Symmetra's comic. You can see the bright beam of light as the map finishes.

I like the last proposition haha

Genius

I main Symmetra, and each time I play on dorado, she says "this would be a perfect place for a Vishkar development"

Thank you!
Actually, since Dorado's payload is being loaded into a facility owned by Lumerico, it's probably the power core for the whole facility, if not the whole city. Defense is probably sided with Sombra, while the offense is Lumerico.

And Hollywood is likely just safely escorting a director to a movie premier without interference from rabid fans while simultaneously shooting an action film.
If you pay attention, the director yells at you from inside of the car on Hollywood haha

There is actually a lot more in the lore of Overwatch than meets the eye.

For instance, all the payload maps are linked to the lore.

On Gibraltar, you are escorting the drone to the rocket so that Winston can use his signal to reunite Overwatch (as he does in the trailer).

On Numbani, you are escorting Doomfist's gauntlet, the one that Widowmaker and Reaper try to steal in another trailer.

On Hollywood, you are escorting an omniac movie director whose movies have posters in the waiting rooms of the map (one of them even starring D.VA! )

And on King's Row, you escort an EMP weapon to the underground city the omnics found shelter in, to basically... kill them all. (So I'm surprised it is still possible to play Bastion and Zenyatta on the attack side, since we are going to destroy their brothers/sisters but... whatever )

Great post! Very interesting.
In Dorado you're bringing the power core to the Lumerico power station to restore power to the region.
I found this information on the OW wiki:

"However, even Tinseltown has been gripped by anti-omnic sentiment, and the outspoken director has become a prime target in the escalating conflict."

I also remember reading somewhere that some people wanted him dead, but I can't find the link atm. My guess is we are there to protect him from assassination and people who want to kill him for being outspoken (presumably about omnic rights or something like that)?

Route 66 is a nuke.

I've been playing Junkrat and shooting grenades near that thing O_O

Well then...

"Would you mind not shooting near the thermonuclear device?"

wasn't that obvious? It looks like the power core from Lumerico.

Why the f*ck are we moving a nuke 300 metres. That thing prolly has a blast radius of a hundred kilometres. Moving it that far does pretty much nothing.

For science, of course! :p
Also the starting area on Route 66 right outside of the cafe is an area with the railway bridge blown up to crash the train carrying the nuclear weapon.

That's how I made the connection to determine what the payload was.

It looks like it is being moved to a secure storeroom after it's taken off the train that's blown up above it.

I don't read too much into these things. I tend to suspend my disbelief somewhere in the same pocket Reaper keeps all his shotguns.
