Public Custom Games

I'd really enjoy the feature to make custom games open to the public, like a server browser. We could make our own Brawls with the custom settings, YouTubers and streamers could easily play with their followers, and people could easily host their own tournaments if we could require a password to join the server.

At the very least, we could play with 60 tick servers without having to get 11 friends together to play one session.
I would like to see that as well. :) Would give the game much more variety :)
There is actually a post about this: http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20745285677#post-12 and there it's mentioned:

For Custom Games, we want to improve overall functionality but figure out a way for players to play more Custom Games with their friends or with strangers (for example, we're researching what a server browser-type feature would look like in OW). This is a ton of work so would not be on the immediate horizon. But in our dream world, you could play Custom Games with 11 other people (friends or strangers) with fun rules in play and gain EXP while doing it... so yeah.

And I believe there was one more which specifically mentioned custom games browser from Jeff, but I couldn't find this one.
like a server browser

I cannot fathom why this is not a standard feature in every single online game.
Bump.

We're very interested in the concept of enabling players to make custom games open to the public. We have time scheduled to explore this and we're pretty excited about it.

Glad to hear a response, Jeff! I really hope we get some kind of map editor soon as well!

Are you insterested by an Overwatch Map Builder/Editor when your server browser came out?
Was just about to make a topic like this one lol

Could you also make it so custom games give some xp?
This is a great idea, I know in w3 and sc2 custom games I found very fun.
Server browser!!! o boy :)

hopefully later we will get a development kit so we can have custom servers with custom maps and game modes :D
Jeff please make this happen? Who knows the possibilities? Mods on custom serves, new game modes, :O
I love how Jeff is just excited about everything. It really shows his interest in making an awesome game for people to enjoy.

Yes. We would love to make more of our tools available to the community. Our main issue has been that we made a brand new engine for OW. The tools and tech are not in a state where it is easy to make them public-facing. We keep talking about ways to get a roadmap to get us there someday. Both our design and tools team are very invested in trying to make this happen someday. But this concept would not happen anytime soon.

We want to see if we can make this happen. There are some exploit/collusion cases that need to be worked out but if we can come up with a satisfactory solution, we'll try to make EXP viable for certain modes/rulesets.
Love this. This is a feature I'm highly interested in. When Overwatch was announced I had expectations that were different to what later I saw in Technical Alpha.

With over 5000 hours of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch played, it was a bit disappointing for me that Overwatch had no Deathmatch mode available.

Custom Games and a server list of maps available would give us the ability to add Deathmatch maps. With no payload/escort limitations, map makers can come up with new styles:

  • A Deathmatch mode where there is a 20 minute time limit
  • A Deathmatch where the team that reaches 100 kills win
  • King of the Hill maps (control)

Giving players the ability to create maps should be high-priority. Waiting several months for the next official map is a slow process, whereas hundreds of players could create many interesting maps like those seen in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch -- this game needs that sort of gameplay.
