Why do we even have a block user if it doesn't work.

General Discussion
I keep playing with someone who always leave in the middle of the game on my team. I did block this guy/woman, yet I still somehow play in the same team as him/her on the match. So what is block for?
The Block feature is to prevent communication from an individual. This should prevent you from seeing their text chat and from hearing their voice chat.

Block also nullifies the "Prefer" feature if that player has you preferred.

Unfortunately, Block does not control whether or not you might end up in a game with that person.

If only there was a way to Avoid Players of that type...

Why do they get unblocked the following round?

If you could avoid players, then people would abuse it like they did before and only avoid players that are better than them.

If only people didn't abuse and misuse a feature that had been there once.... :)

I imagine that would make queuing much harder, make it longer, and would easily be a way to bully someone out of the game if the person was well known enough.

That's a bit of slippery slope logic. I feel like they should bring back the option to avoid players but give us contextual options for it like "MMR mismatch" (avoid for 10 games), "Toxic Behavior" (avoid for 100 games), "Leaver" (avoid for 50 games) or something.

People would abuse it to classify people who they deem are sh*t teammates to the shadowrealm, even though, let's be frank, when a guy is losing and sh*tting on his teammates like no tomorrow, sometimes it takes a hard long look in the mirror...

We were at the bottom of the slope when the feature existed and have been climbing back up it ever since using Hanzo's arrows.

No slippery slope logic here. It literally happened. It is literally why they removed "Avoid this player". You can't claim slippery slope when it actually happened this way.

Yeah, wasn't there some really good widowmaker player that sent in a ticket about really long queue times, and when Blizz looked into it like half of everyone that lost to him put him on their block list so they wouldn't have to play him again?

That's a bit of slippery slope logic.

I agree that the original method of avoiding players wasn't perfect, but it was better than nothing. I'd like it to return but place a limit on how many times you can avoid a player in a certain period and vary the length of time you would avoid those players based on the reason for avoiding them.

The simple solution is to make it so players you can avoid end up on the enemy team. How could that be abused? Then you couldn't abuse it to ensure you aren't playing against good players.

Why not make it so you can block players you don't want to play with but make it so if a player is really good(determined by their MMR), they can't be blocked? This would allow people to stay away from the toxic people they don't want to play with but also still protect the good players that were having the issue where they'd run into long queue times because they were getting blocked simply for being good. If there's a time where a really good player is also toxic, that's where the Report button would have to factor in. With your rating system, you should know how good a player is and it would also allow you to adjust the "Block Threshold" as needed.

Except, many people don't use the Block button because a person is good. They use it because the person is toxic. People can still be toxic whilst being on the other team. I will say it's worse if the toxic player is on your team, though, so your suggestion would at least be a little better.

Ok, and someone on the other team also has them blocked. Now what?
