Well some people live in the past.

professionals don't play practically.

They do play practically. why risk going into CQC when your CQC damage is RNG based/all or nothing when you have arguably the best midrange primary in the game?

There's no incentive for running a 200hp hero with no mobility and no sustain into CQC when his damage is just as good at range.
well Its high noon somewhere in the world.
Blizzard completely screwed up McCree's character design. I would be surprised if he isn't tweaked in the PTR. He excels in a role that he shouldn't be in, and he fails at countering flankers.

He was always intended to do alright in mid-range, the problem was that he fan the hammer was broken.

To compensate they nerfed his mid-range capability. When that didn't work they made fan the hammer useless and now he's a secondary tank killer and can damage generally everyone, he's like an alt s76 now. Counterable by all strong against all.

They couldn't figure out a way to balance his flanker killing powers, so this is our end result.
This seems more like the wiki is just using outdated info more than anything.

McCree used to be all about fan the hammer before they nerfed it.

Now he's McLeftClick.

More like it
Here is a big game design flaw:
-Making a character the best at long range and making him also good at close range or vice versa.

When the game first game out, McCree was a better close range class than Reaper, but heck, he can still kill Reaper with flashbang + right click assuming the Reaper doesn't wraith form while the flashbang travels mid air.

Literally this is the entire issue with McCree. They (originally) tried to make him the best close range class in the game with an amazing long range left click too(perfect logic amirite?), then when that idea failed horribly, they didn't know what to do.

The funny thing is that he still has the kit of a CQC hero. Flashbang - 7 meters max. Fan the Hammer - he has to be hugging the target if it's not a tank. Role - doesn't do much at range, but once upon a time it was an extra 400 burst damage.
Wiki's not up to date. Lols on all of this.
I liked the old right click mccree because his entire kit is based on that one move. Sure it destroyed tanks and everything else, but you know what? We only got 2 tank busters now and they are reaper and bastion. Bastion isn't even viable so we only have 1 tank buster. We need at least two in the fricken 3 tanks 3 support meta and reverting mccree's kit to its original design might just help. If people want long/medium range heros they should be choosing widowmaker, soldier, and hanzo not mccree mccree mccree. His left click is too good it makes the rest of his kit pointless. His right click is so !@#$ that it isn't worth using.

Blizzard just missed the point of McCree. His primary job is to shut down flankers with flash and fan so that they won't chip away at the supports and DPS. The left click is supposed to be a skill indexed feature which would allow a good McCree to have an even chance against a Soldier 76 at short-mid, while being a usable, but below optimal choice at middle to long range.

Instead, McCree's zone of damage is like a donut. Ok at close, very good at mid, ok at long. Blizzard rightly nerfed his fan damage, but didn't do enough to make it better against tracer, and did nothing at all to make the flashbang better against genji. They then buffed an aspect of him that never should have been that strong at all, and to be honest, should have been nerfed slightly.
I hate to do this but I have to like Obamacare.
Feels like McCree ought to have less recoil on his FtH so that you can actually use it for bursting a flanker or stunning a tank. His LMB feels like it's a little too good at range but I don't have enough experience with him to have a valid opinion.

McCree is still a tank buster to a degree. If he headshots he does 280 dps which is nothing to scoff at and it isn't like McCree headshotting tanks is rare or anything.
Not McCree, !@#$ that guy.
McCree is still one of the best counters to tracer/genji. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about.

You need to get off the stuff you're using since headhots do 140 damage.

It's Reaper who does 280 on headshots.
You just got your ego knocked in the dirt by McRekt right before this post didn't you lol
