Packet Loss/ Lag

Technical Support
Hello, Up until after the Halloween patch I've had no problems playing Overwatch but now I've been experiencing elastic banding and lag issues.

I've restarted my router, computer (HP running Windows 10) and adjusted my Virtual Memory parameters but I'm still having trouble. I've literally never had trouble before... Is there an easy fix for this? I've looked into the issue a little but I'm really not the best at this kind of thing...

Any help is appreciated, thanks
Hey Grimjoy!

Can you start with trying the troubleshooting HERE. If you're still having issues after that please get back with a screenshot of your network graph from in-game during the latency. As well as let's get a WinMTR:
  • First, download the WInMTR program
  • To run this you’ll want to right click on the .exe and select run as admin or you’ll likely get an error.
  • In the “Host” field you want to put in the server IP. In the case of Overwatch, you'll want to use the IP that is at the top left of the network graph from above.
  • Click Start and now we want to run this while you’re playing the game. So go ahead and log in.
  • Let this run for roughly 10-20 minute intervals while you play until you start to have latency.
  • Once you’re sure that you have the ~10-20 minutes of latency recorded. Press the stop button and just select the option for “Export TEXT”.
  • Save the file as something easy to remember on the desktop and post here.
  • Exact same thing happened to me, but the troubleshoot guide seemed to work, on my 3rd game now trying to see if it did work. Good luck!
I tried everything so I pulled up that graph and used the WinMTR. Might be doing this wrong but here it goes:

So there is dataloss starting at the modem, is this a combo device or do you have a modem and router? Also, can you get me the screenshot if the in-game network graph while you're having the issue please.

I do use a modem and a router. Not sure if the router is the problem... My internet provider did say there were supposed upgrades happening.

Anyway here's a screenshot (not sure how to upload pics so here is a link) :

Thanks for the screenshot. I would say there is for sure a major issue. Looking at the graph your Packets Per Second is 0 in the screenshot. So basically there is no data that the client is getting.

This could be caused by the work the ISP is doing or possibly even blocked ports. So let's make sure to open the ports for the modem and router device. With this, we actually don't have steps for opening those ports, so you'll need to use a site like Portforward.com or contact your ISP/Device manufacturer for support if needed.
