What if Overwatch was 8v8?

General Discussion
Would make all those niche picks like sym and torb a lot more useful...
I doubt that. It'd probably be 4 tanks (Rein, Dva, Zarya and Roadhog) 3 supports (Ana, Lucio and Zenyatta) 1 DPS (Soldier 76).
Worst meta ever.
that would only mean there could be more tanks and supports on the field. i really doubt that would make a big impact.
Would be awful. The maps are designed for 6V6 encounters.

8V8 would just be a constant heavy fire between 2 blocks that don't die
As an Arcade mode, it would be nice actually. But OW devs got a lot more on their heads right now than that.
If 8v8 add Zarya and Winston to team. Meta rock solid.
role distribution and hero balance all revolve around 6 man teams, thats why 2 2 2 is always used by the meta-cucks
You would just add all the tanks to the Meta + Soldier Ana Lucio =p
It's already hard to carry 5 other people in soloQ, you sue you want a 8v8?

Even pros will have a hard time in low Elo.
We experimented with 8v8 for quite some time. The matches felt too chaotic for our liking. The game lacked a recognizable front and we found ourselves dying a lot from seemingly random, outnumbered encounters.

We also tried 4v4 but it felt like there was almost no room for error. A single death was extremely impactful on the match. Eventually, we settled on 6v6 based on our map sizes, movement speeds and engagement distances.

As you guys can see though, we're opening to experimenting with other sizes in the Arcade. 3v3 is currently the most popular mode in the Arcade.

Sadly there are roughly 8 heroes that you can play in the gamemode. Most of the time it's just Roadhog, Ana, Soldier.

Having played TF2, I actually kinda miss the chaos of having a large amount of players on the map. Would you consider adding a custom-only mode where you can have a large amount of players?

23v23, like a map where you have two bases. Lmao. Team deathmatch, like with special points you have to capture! Or just a simplified 23v23 smaller...

How come you don't release these things in the ptr and see how the community feels about them instead of just the limited people who play it? Isn't the ptr for testing, how come you guys can't have the community test out on these gamemodes on the ptr more frequently?

I've seen almost every hero used effectively. Yes, Road-Ana-Soldier is hard to go wrong with, but I've seen super long range Hanzo-Widow-Ana lineups work, I've seen heavy dives with Winston-Genji-Zen, or crazy sustain lineups like Dva-Mei-Ana.

3v3 is all about countering the lineup that you anticipate the other side to run, and personal skill is a prevailing factor
1x1 is not bad but 3x3 makes you feel like even if you lose you can still win =3
