I have around 40 hours currently on Sombra making her my 3rd played hero and wanted to share my thoughts about her current state.

Currently Sombra does typically require a very coordinated team to make useful, however, there are a few bugs and small changes that could really help bring her into a better place. I do also agree that most people do not play her in an effective way, but there's so many things that still hold her back when she is played in an effective way.

Sombra's Bugs

Bug #1
Description of Bug - Sometimes when coming out of invisibility, when trying to throw your translocator, the animation of it being thrown will show, but it will not actually throw.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/VigilantMedicalKakapo

Bug #2
Description of Bug - You will sometimes continue to take damage even after translocating. In my example, the translocating animation has happened on both mine and the person who killed me's screens.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/CautiousMasculineAntarcticgiantpetrel & https://gfycat.com/EminentShorttermBarasinga

Bug #3
Description of Bug - When falling off a ledge, if you try to translocate back up, you will still die despite the animation of you transporting happening. If this is done from the same distance as Tracer with her recall, she will not die.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/DapperMatureIndigowingedparrot

Bug #4 - Given by MrNobodyX3 (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20753176109)
Description of Bug - When throwing the translocator at the top of a breakable rail, the translocator will bounce off of it, but you will be teleported as if it went past it.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/HonestSereneAgouti and https://gfycat.com/AcrobaticBabyishAracari

Bug #5 - Given by DaRealFreak
Description of Bug - Sometimes a translocator icon will appear on your screen despite not throwing your translocator. It will also show two translocator icons on the screen when you do throw yours. This can make it confusing as to where you will be teleporting to.
Example of Bug - http://puu.sh/u06DC/1bf3c2c6a2.jpg (see cooldown on translocator)

Bug #6 - Given by Pokono and dreamscum2ru
Description of Bug - The sound of the hack will go through, but your hack will not. In my example, it may have been because of taking damage, but it's the only example I have currently. Will add another if I get a better one.
    Example of Bug - https://youtu.be/mqV18DXpoBo

Bug #7 -
Description of Bug - If your hack finishes on someone just as they die, your "hacked enemies" stat will NOT go up, but your cooldown will be triggered for the ability.
    Example of Bug - https://youtu.be/aWmUmJeyOeE

Bug #8
Description of Bug - If you try to translocate at the very last second, you will not be translocated and will stay in the same place.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/BowedDirectBream

Bug #9
Description of Bug - Sombra's EMP does not give the hack effect to the training bots in the practice range.
    Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/ActiveWindyAmericantoad

These are currently the bugs that I have been able to actually get proof of. I'm sure there are a few more, and if you have videos/gifs of them, I'll be sure to add them to my thread.

Other Suggestions

Machine Pistol
Spread - Slightly reduce the spread of her gun and/or increase falloff distance
I don't necessarily think this is the change that she needs, especially after recent buffs. I know a lot of people believe this is a necessary change, but for me personally, it's at the bottom of the list of changes I'd like to see.

Thermoptic Camo
    *Change #1 - 0.7 seconds stealthing/unstealthing reduced to 0.5 seconds stealthing/unstealthing
For me, this is the one change I really want to see. With most buffs they have given her, they've made her kit flow better together. I think that this would really help add onto that and give her that little bit more that she needs to not feel as clunky.

Hack/EMP
Change #1 - Allow Sombra to hack Tactical Visor, Dragonblade, and Configuration Tank. It doesn't quite make sense that these ultimates can't be hacked, and other ults like Roadhog's can be.
I've removed the * from this as I don't feel it is an important change anymore. If you look at my post at the bottom of this thread responding to Geoff, you'll see my reasoning behind allowing her to hack more ults.

*Change #2 - Add an indicator on the screen to show how many people are in the EMP radius. This would be similar to the indicator that Mercy has when she ults. Here's a mockup of what it could look like - http://i.imgur.com/PHPvPIj.jpg. Idea from this thread - https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20753566541
I think that this would be a really good quality of life change for Sombra because it can be difficult to judge how many people are going to be in your EMP, especially since the slightest bit of the map can block it due to line of sight.

Passive

Cosmetic

Now, do I think Sombra needs all of these changes? No, but I have put an asterisk* near the suggestions I personally feel she should get.

With a few small changes (maybe some of the suggestions I've listed) and bug fixes, I think Sombra could be brought to a much better place than she is currently without becoming too strong. I find that for her current role, she just feels too clunky and needs some sort of change to help her out.

Hopefully this will spark some positive conversation about which direction the devs should take with Sombra!

Geoff's Post Regarding Sombra
02/21/2017 05:09 PMPosted by Geoff Goodman
Currently hacking players only disables abilities that are in-use if a stun would also disable them. For example, McCree's flash bang doesn't remove Tac Visor, so hacking doesn't either.

We could change it so Sombra's hacking cancels active abilities and clears ongoing effects. If we did that, Sombra would cancel Tac Visor, but it would also cancel/clear Winston's ult, Bastion's ult, Ana's ult, Torbjorn's ult, Widowmaker's ult, Genji's ult, etc. That would certainly be more powerful but I'm not sure what she needs right now is more power in her hacking/EMP.

We'll see how she fares when the PTR patch goes live, but if she needs more help its unlikely to be increasing the potency of her EMP, as she arguably already has too much of her overall character power wrapped up in one ability.

My Response
I personally believe that the dev team should try out a custom system for how Sombra's hack/EMP affects ultimate abilities. Currently, they use the excuse of having two different types of ults, one that can be stopped via anything that can stun, and one that cannot. The problem with this is that a Sombra hack should not be considered a "stun" ability. It should have it's own system regarding which ults it stops. It would not make sense for hack to stop a Winston Ult, but it would make sense for it to stop a Soldier ult, and that's why I believe they should at least try out a custom system for her. I don't personally know how much work it would take, but I know it wouldn't be impossible.

Bugs Fixed
    Bug #1 - FIXED
Description of Bug - If you throw your translocator directly at your feet, your teleport will not work, and you will stay in the same spot.
      Example of Bug - https://gfycat.com/SomberBeneficialFiddlercrab

Suggestions Added
Thermoptic Camo - Lower volume of voicelines when unstealthing by 50% or remove voicelines - Actual change has reduced the radius that you can hear Sombra's uncloaking voiceline to 15 meters.
Hack/EMP - Allow hacked health packs to be seen through walls by teammates with some sort of icon. (https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20752578457?page=1)

Update!! - Geoff confirms they are working on Sombra delay bug
03/09/2017 03:23 PMPosted by Geoff Goodman
...

Are you guys also going to remove the teleport delay? We're still dying after translocating. Sometimes we've completed disappeared from where we were, but then the camera snaps back to where we were previously and Sombra dies. The teleport isn't instant. Is that intentional?

Some of this is just latency but we think there still might be some kind of underlying bug here as well. We've tried to fix this a few times but it hasn't gone away.

For the record though this is not intended. It should behave similar to Tracer's Recall. This problem isn't because the effect has a duration (or 'teleport delay' as you mentioned), as Recall also has a duration and doesn't have this same problem.

We're still actively trying to track down and solve this problem.

Great that you highlighted the Translocator bugs! Hopefully Blizzard is already working on a fix.

As I've said in many other Sombra topics; the only buffs I would give Sombra is make the Translocator projectile faster to throw, make the teleportation itself faster, and apply the speed boost of Stealth instantly, instead of after the 0.7 second cast time. This will make Sombra able to use her movement abilities much more reactively and feel more fluent to play, instead of always having to set up the Translocator before an engagement, or having to hide behind objects when using Stealth in combat. I think Sombra's damage and Hack are fine, even a small buff to these could make Sombra feel overpowered.

Please do include this link to your post that way they can refer to it. Its to make hacked healthpacks visible through walls.

https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20752578457?page=1
currently there is no counter to her ult.
and for the love of god dont let her hack dragonblade, you can simply stay out of range easily with a decent lucio and hack him willingly everytime he ults.
and without a lucio hack has a massive range and can easily hack genji's not expecting it.
I hope this gets some blue text or at least stays on the front page long enough to be noticed by Blizzard.

I'm all for these two changes in specific:
*Change #1 - Allow Sombra to hack Tactical Visor, Dragonblade, and Configuration Tank. It doesn't quite make sense that these ultimates can't be hacked, and other ults like Roadhog's can be.
*Change #3 - Allow hacked health packs to be seen through walls by teammates with some sort of icon.

I still say we havnt quite figured this hero fully out. A quick example Ive seen is on the spray of her mini-gun.

If you stand still and fire a clip, you see the spray bounce around the expanded site, yet it dosnt quite act like that while moving.

If in the same spot that you fired a clip to compare, you strafe the wall and unload a clip , you notice even with the larger spray the bullets almost keep resetting to the center.

Count the times while standing still that the bullet mark favors a spray vs hitting center and count the times the bullets favor the middle over the spray. It just keeps proving far more accurate if your site is chasing and moving than it does if you try to unload in one spot.

Just one example but I dont feel we know her well enough when the dev's flat say "we dont play her right."
The biggest change i'd like to see to Sombra is that people stop picking her in comp.

maybe she could shorten the duration by one, two or three seconds?
I want all of this... Please... And maybe a slight spread reduction.

It's really annoying that Sombra can't hack an ulting Soldier considering how incredibly strong Tactical Visor is right now.

same for roadhog.
You shouldn't have listed bugs with her. Blizzard will definitely never respond now.
Well written, I dont play Sombra myself much but I hope the devs get to see this, you have my support.
hello

Currently Sombra does typically require a very coordinated team to make useful, however, there are a few bugs and small changes that could really help bring her into a better place. I do also agree that most people do not play her in an effective way, but there's so many things that still hold her back when she is played in an effective way.

Hack/EMP
[ul]*Change #1 - Allow Sombra to hack Tactical Visor, Dragonblade, and Configuration Tank. It doesn't quite make sense that these ultimates can't be hacked, and other ults like Roadhog's can be.
Change #2 - Give Sombra 5-10% increased damage on hacked enemies. I don't think Sombra's base damage or spread should be touched, but I think this would be a nice way to slightly buff her damage output without buffing her entire damage.

Sombra doesn't specifically need a team to coordinate with her, because she should be able to read the flow of the game and insert her EMP/hack where it will be most effective even without a microphone. She needs a team that is able to function as a team, full stop--flankerwatch teams will never see a benefit from Sombra, even if Sombra is MVP and murdering the enemy team over and over.

Also, EMP suggestion 1 can't happen because those three ults are categorized differently from Roadhog/Reaper/Pharah. They're not channeled, they're transformations that last for 6/8 seconds. The difference is tiny, but significant in terms of what Sombra can and can't hack.

EMP suggestion 2 is wholly unnecessary because her damage output is sufficient for what she does. If you're having difficulty closing kills with Sombra, either you've pushed too far into the enemy team (and dying due to everyone focusing on you), or you're too far away (and most of your shots are missing).
If you can hack someone, you should be in range to kill them. The extra damage is irrelevant and just gives the false impression to new Sombra players that they should hack everyone before they engage, instead of using hack intelligently.
I've noticed the translocator holds your hitbox at the old position a bit too long. I often get killed mid-translocation, when my silhouette is already visible at the new spot, but, say, a Reinhardt hammer smacks me down at my previous one. Haven't seen this happen with recall, for example - hell, I've survived D.Va ults by being in mid-recall while they exploded - so it shouldn't happen with translocating either.
Real talk how is sombra able to hack mei while out side the range on mei's attack.

funny too I think this only apeared when it went live, it wasn't around durring PTR
I feel like Sombra's issue is somehow closely linked to the fact that she wants to be stealthy but continues to parade how she just walked behind you.

Okay but other than that, I feel like something should be done to her damage output a little regardless, and not literally her damage but spread/range probably, that or maybe a minor tiny tiny damage buff would be good. Or for the absolutely mad, higher rate of fire, regardless of how insane it is.

Those bugs need to be fixed though because I've experienced them and they literally have gotten me killed.
