Why is the USA playing South Korea first?

General Discussion
In what looks to be a win or go home tournament, why is the USA playing South Korea first? Doesn't the Home team host usually get a freebie in the first round of a tournament like this?
Is the world cup on?. I don't see it on twitch?.
Making USA play vs SK is a great way to decrease viewer numbers after the first match. Many Americans will probably tune out and not watch the rest of the tournament.

Btw, this isn't to poke fun at Americans or anything. It happens with all international sports.
Where are you guys getting this info?

This is the top 8 teams, it's not like the first group stage of a World Cup tournament. If a team would be selected and given an easier matchup that would just be super unfair.

And you say home team? That doesn't apply here, it's a Blizzard tournament not an international organised event moving from country to country, so the USA would therefore always be the home team.

USA would not always be the home team what are you talking about. If this were played in South Korea, USA would not be the home team lol. Are you saying this is the top 8 teams 1 through 8 and South Korea is 1 and USA is 8 that's why they're playing eachother?
There was a drawing for which teams would play each other which "coincidentally" matched the earleir brackets. In any case, it's just the way the brackets matched up coming out for the group stages. No biggie. And if blizzard changed it everybody would be saying blizzard rigged for USA to avoid s Korea and is screwing another country.

Lol I would have re-drawn and definitely rigged it at least for the first round.
They banned Chinese team from entering US so the Worldcup is as good as fixed anyway, who cares.
Zero point watching the world cup, it's a free win for S.Korea.
Unlucky seeding.

They didn't ban them. The Chinese team didn't get their visas for entry. And there can be a LOT of reasons why they didn't, and a lot of them could land on the Chinese team member's shoulders.

They haven't released any of the reasons (and the Chinese team knows them) for why they weren't allowed entry. People should really do a minimal amount of research on the topic before saying that the Chinese team was banned.
That's pretty unfortunate. I wouldn't even watch that. Our USA team is made up of nothing but South Koreans and then we fight South Korea? Yeah, no. Plus, we all know it;s going ti be a blowout.

Seriously, Blizz was made in the USA, at least have your HOME teams get a shot ffs.
i like how much faith everyone has in the usa
I find it extremely sad that this is a thread

in pretty much all fronts

Load of bull.

Blizzard, as a host, is completely responsible for organization of the WC. If it fails to organize invited players attending it - its its fault, entirely. In first place there is absolutely no reason to deny the VISAs for players, they are not international terrorists, and with Blizzard documents and invitations should be even more so.

In opposite, Blizzard did not only take that in account or attempted to resolve it, but as cowardly bunch they are just hid in sand, not responding even when desperate Chinese team players appealed directly on OW forums.

And its not the first time, same thing, specifically with Chinese players happened on around dozen past Blizzard events. And it happens not to just Chinese players.

If Blizz knew (and it did) that might happen in advance, should have held the matches outside of US then since with current situation WC makes zero point.

The seeding is what it is. Changing it now would be scummy. Even then, if USA made it to finals they’d get blown out anyways.

When it comes to playing Sk, get good or go home.
Wouldn't have been fair to any team matched vs S. Korea, really. Don't see why US should get special treatment. If they win, then they probably beat the best and can likely guarantee the championship. If they lose, they lost to the best so nothing to really be ashamed of. Other than China, the US has the biggest pool of players to pick from compared to the other teams. Looking at it from that perspective, I doubt S. Korea is very happy about that match up either. Both are powerhouses.
korea can probably play blindfolded and still win
