Pine is basically a pink-haired asian god.

He's a flesh and blood anime main character. The pink hair proves it.

Most of the game's population can't hit these shots like Pine can.

You're telling the playerbase that this is his role, but only 10% of the playerbase can actually accurately reproduce this.

The remainder can't fit into this role... which begs the question, what is McCree's role for the players that aren't aim gods?

That is the player's problem, no the character's design or Blizzards. Guess what? its called PRACTICE.

Lamborghini doesn't change their cars because the average person couldn't handle driving one correctly.

If you want to play McCree, practice your aim, if you refuse to do so or make excuses for yourself then play another hero.
I miss when this game was balanced around millions of players instead of 72 pros.

It is very evident that he means mcree may be a hero that requires practice to get good at but is extremely effective when you put the time in, quite like a lot of the other heroes in the game.

Yes he requires aim, if you cannot aim there are plenty of other heroes that may suit you well.

Ok but what is his role, that was the original question and all he got was a mcree that team wiped

His role is hit scan with massive damage potential.

How hard is that to understand? Are you looking for some lame label people like to make up (DPS hybrid support flanker LMAO!) He's a hitscan hero that can function as a sniper who can shoot from the hip. The risk vs reward is there. You need precision aiming but if have it the damage potential is MASSIVE.

Not even touching on whether your premise is valid or not, but...

Its clear that you haven't been in a lamborghini that's younger than the women that it attracts ;)

Seriously. All of the new models have dual clutch automated manuals, stability/traction control, driving assists, navigation, and all of the creature comforts of a luxury car.

^^^

McCree is a crazy high skillcap hero. Easy to learn, hard to master. And once mastered, he makes getting teamkills as easy as any point-and-click adventure game, a seen in the clip.

If someone's looking for something that makes him unique from the other hitscan DPS, I would say McCree's the best at shutting down enemy heroes, particularly during ultimates. If you're not watching him, a flashbang and a headshot will ruin pretty much any of your dragonblade related plans.

You don't play him then. Pick soldier where it is a little easier to use. I'm in plat and a tank main. I use McRee as my go to DPS and do just fine.

Im not triying to be rude but honestly I never like when people over exaggerate their statements for the sake of a smooth point, your go to DPS (Mcree) has 7 minutes of action, your accuracy is 31% which is the bottom tier for this hero, your KDR is 1.12 (kill once, die once) and you lost that match, calling that fine is a stretch, you need as much practice with Mcree as the guy you recommended not to.

I mean, sorry you can't play a hero because you lack the wherewithal to take time to practice a hero like mccree..? What else is there to say, McCree is at his best when used by someone who's good at aiming. Even if that bugs you it's not like there's 25 other heroes you can play.

Except that that skill isnt worth it when you could be rewarded at the same level, or moreso with the same amount of skill on another character.

Or that others are more versatile and rely on more than one form of skill as the determinant of success.

Or that the skill floor for him is much higher than others

Its not that McCree cant do well in the hands of a skilled player, its the question if the time invested and difficulty is WORTH it. Which, IMO, would be better served on playing the more forgiving S76, or the more versatile Tracer.

Hence why "git gud" isnt really a substantive answer, because it doesnt ask whether the investment is worth it, or practical at all.

If you don’t feel he is worth it then don’t play him. But there are advantages to picking mccree. Especially after sombra’s buffs go live.

I’m pretty familiar with most hero’s and how to play them based on what’s needed or I want to accomplish.

Says every silver player on the planet.

I never said I was good. My michanical skills are not good enough to be higher but that doesn’t mean I don’t know when to pick a Winston or a 76 and do ok w them for my bracket level. Mcrees is the only one where even within silver or gold, I have no idea how he’s supposed to be played. I even know how you should play widow but I can’t hit my targets to make her viable.

Mcrees kit is a mystery to figure out. Even in that video he’s not utilizing his kit. He only survived long because of the mercy. His shots were on point but he still had to shoot many shots before they started dropping. In most situations this is not gonna happen.

So just another assault.

This game used to have neat roles besides attack at close to mid range
tldw; mid-close range hitscan that can carry a fight if he knows how to play

He has no massive damage potential. You are just wrong. Widowmaker/Hanzo have a massive damage potential at medium/long range (oneshot, no falloff). McCree has a huge falloff starting at 22 meters. Projectile's heroes doesn't have falloff at all (Zen), only Mei has falloff on Icicle starting at 26 meters. S76, who is also hitscan, has falloff starting at 30 meters. He is far more efficient at long range, on a distant Pharah for example. McCree will deal 20 damages at 45 meters, while projectile heroes can deal full damages no matter the range. Pretty much the reason why Zen is a mandatory pick in OWL, he is a serious piece of artillery.

Because of falloff McCree is only usable at short/medium range, which means melee range fighting against melee range specialist like Genji and Tracer, fighting against tanks like DVA, Roadhog and Zarya.

Genji will win most 1 vs 1 fight against McCree because of a far better mobility, right click spam, dash + melee, reflect and a strong melee ult. Tracer will win most fight against McCree if she is able to avoid the flashbang. If you seriously think that Genji and Tracer are countered by a good McCree then why Pros do not pick McCree to counter them?

DVA will win against McCree using only Boosters + rockets + melee at close range, since McCree has no mobility and 200 hp only, he will die. If Roadhog hooks McCree he will oneshot him 100% of the time. McCree is one of the only few heroes that Roadhog can keep oneshot on regular basis. A charged Zarya will destroy McCree 100% of the time. I am a Zarya main in comp plays, McCree is a no match.

McCree also make a lot of noise, has long CD for crap abilities like roll, his unreliable flash, FTH is useless except trying to break shields and he has a bad ult. Because of low mobility he cannot avoid shields facing him and cannot move behind ennemy's lines. McCree also suffer from slow tickrate server since many hits do not register when you don't play on the super low latency OWL special build. Just try to hit a flying basketball for 2 or 3 consuctive hits and you will see they do not register on a fast moving ball.

I spent hundred of hours on McCree, I can now reach 50%+ accuracy on regular basis with several headshots and it's still more rewarding to play someone else.

thank god some people still know the truth for mccree. My first post on this thread got downvoted into oblivion bcs i said he is useless without mercy pocketing him. trash kit, pathetic ult, counter 2-3 heroes getting countered from almost everyone. even with really good aim (i ve been there) you still pick him because you like him, not because its worth it. pros play him only because of mercy meta and the pocket. in owl stage 2 will have close to 0 playtime.
Offense and Anti Flank.
So what Jeff want to say is...

Shoot someone who is not shooting you.
TBH, McCree should be classified as a Defense hero. He ambushes, he snipes (sort of), his mobility is mediocre. He is basically a Defense hero in everything but name only.

How is he an anti-flank? Genji and Tracer kill him most of the time.

Symmetra and Mei are supose to be anti-flankers but theres no such a thing like that on overwatch.
Yeah this brings up an issue.

That headshot damage really does do too much damage. That was a complete stomp by a simple pistol weilding player. The use of one skill mainly shows how much more powerful a Mccree over other heros who need a full clip to do the same thing over a much bigger span of time.

Anyone else feel like those opposing players had no chance or say in the matter? Clearly the Tracer was too deep but dear lord. Singlehandedly clearling a point in under a minute. Man that feels bad. What ever happened to team play there or that a single hero cannot carry a team by himself. All that took was AIM. That is scary by design. So scary.
