Mar 23 StarCraft II Low FPS Troubleshooting Guide Hello everyone! I've noticed quite a few people asking for help with low fps issues in StarCraft II. There are many factors that can affect the frame rate of the games you play and often this issue can be resolved by doing some basic PC housekeeping and walking through some basic troubleshooting steps. Instead of repeating myself, I've decided to write a guide to help those who are experiencing low frame rate issues in the game. The PDF guide can be downloaded here. It also covers the NVIDIA video card software settings as well as the StarCraft II in-game settings. I've copied the basic troubleshooting tips from the guide and pasted it below. For the non-tech savvy users among us, I've also included easy-to-understand step-by-step instructions for each troubleshooting tip, which can be found in the PDF document. Without further ado, let's get started. 1. Update Your Video Driver The latest graphics card drivers can sometimes provide a large boost in performance. To ensure the best graphics performance, it’s a good idea to keep your video driver as up-to-date as possible. 2. Reset Your Video Driver Settings If your graphics driver is already up-to-date, try resetting your graphics driver settings. Improperly configured application profile settings can cause low fps and resetting them to default values may help improve your frame rates. Support Page → https://battle.net/support/article/24142 3. Update The System Drivers Keeping all of the major system drivers (chipset, audio, network etc.) up-to-date is essential to the performance of your system. 4. Update Your Operating System Use Windows Update to keep your Windows computer up-to-date with the latest patches, bug fixes and performance improvements. 5. Perform a Clean Startup Some applications and services may interfere with StarCraft II. By performing a clean startup, you can determine whether a background program or service is the source of the frame rate problem. Support Page → https://battle.net/support/article/23848 6. Adjust Visual Settings in Windows Disabling many of the visual enhancements and graphical features within Windows can improve your system’s performance. 7. Check Your Power Options In Balanced and Power Save mode the CPU may not be running up to its full potential all the time. Enable High Performance mode to run the CPU full throttle and maximize system performance and responsiveness. 8. Check Your GPU’s Power Management Mode Another setting to consider is the graphics card’s power management mode setting. If it’s set to ‘Adaptive’, it may run at a lower frequency to conserve power. Setting it to ‘Prefer High Performance’ can increase the frame rate in your games. 9. Disable Windows 10 Game DVR If you face any performance issues while playing games, and if you don’t have any need for it, try disabling Windows 10 Game DVR. 10. Configure or Disable OneDrive If OneDrive is enabled your frame rate may drop if OneDrive synchronizes the folder while you are playing StarCraft II. If you are having frame rate issues and OneDrive is enabled, configuring or disabling it might help. 11. Set Windows for Best Performance for Programs While the ‘Adjust for best performance’ setting in the Advanced System Properties is set to optimize Windows for best performance for programs by default, it is worth checking this setting to ensure it is still the case on your system. 12. Optimize Your Hard Drive Optimizing your hard drive can aid in improving the frame rate in StarCraft II, especially if game assets like textures, models and shaders are loaded at runtime. 13. Check for Overheating Components CPU’s and GPU’s can throttle down performance to compensate for the heat. Make sure your system isn’t overheating. Support Page → https://battle.net/support/article/31363 14. Scan for Viruses and Malware If the system is running slowly, there is a possibility that it’s infected with a virus or malware. Scan your computer for virues and malware to ensure it’s still clean and not infected. Support Page → https://battle.net/support/article/27610 15. Check for Problem Devices Check for problem devices to ensure that there are no conflicts between device drivers or problems with any devices on your system. 16. Use the StarCraft II 32-bit Game Client If you’re running a 64-bit Operating System and are experiencing frame rate issues when using the 64-bit game client, try using the 32-bit client instead. Some players have reported better fps with the 32-bit game client. Support Page → https://battle.net/support/article/33881 17. Disable NVIDIA ShadowPlay & Streaming Service Increase your frame rate and save precious CPU cycles by disabling NVIDIA ShadowPlay & NVIDIA Streaming Service. 18. Temporarily Disable Your Sound Card Disabling your sound card will help you determine if the sound card is the root cause of the low frame rate problem. 19. Check for CPU Hogs Programs that require a lot of CPU resources can slow down your computer. Look for resource wasting programs that you can shut down to free up CPU cycles and check your computer’s CPU usage while playing StarCraft II. 20. Turn Off Search Indexing in Windows Windows Search Indexing is constantly running in the background. For users with a slow computer it can be benificial to turn off Windows Search Indexing. 21. Enable Intel Turbo Boost If your CPU supports Intel Turbo Boost Technology, it can run faster than the noted speeds. Enabling Turbo Boost will result in increased performance in applications and games. 22. Use High Performance Discrete GPU To ensure your games take advantage of the faster graphics card in your system, set the preferred graphics processor setting to the High Performance Graphics Processor. 23. Exit Battle.net When Launching Games In rare cases, the Blizzard launcher can cause high CPU load. If the Blizzard launcher is causing high CPU load on your system, set it to close itself when it launches a game to improve the frame rate in StarCraft. 24. Disable Superfetch Superfetch tries to improve performance by predicting which applications a user is likely to launch and preemptively loads them into RAM. Some players have reported improved game performance with SuperFetch disabled, so disabling it may be worth a shot if you’re experiencing in-game “stutters”. 25. Enable or Disable AMD Turbo Core AMD Turbo Core allows the processor to dynamically adjust the CPU operating frequency. Some users have reported better performance with AMD Turbo Core enabled, while some others have claimed that their fps drops stopped with AMD Turbo Core disabled. If it’s already enabled, try disabling it. If it’s not enabled, turn it on and see if that helps. Please keep in mind that while the suggestions listed above and the ones listed in the PDF document may help improve your PC's performance, they will never be able to improve it beyond the limitations of your system's hardware. If you're still experiencing low fps after that, I'd recommend running a system benchmark (e.g. PassMark) and compare your computer’s performance with the online results to ensure your system is running at the correct performance speeds. Sep 1 Disconnections/Reconnect and latency issues So, the amount of lag time at the start of matches ever since the last patch have been unbearable. I've already had people quit coop matches and it even does it in Campaign mode. On top of that, when playing the campaign, every few minutes, it keeps saying my battlenet connection has failed, but it's not my internet or my computer. When matches end, it logs me all of the way out of my account, so I have to sign back in to get Battlenet service restored. But if I click another mission, it's the same problem all over again. It's bad enough that clicking "remember my account" almost works and hasn't since the option was first implemented, and even when it does, it doesn't remember my password. I'm exhausted with having to type my password on my home computer on my own account on the game I paid for, but I'm at peace with the fact that it may never be fixed. But I literally cannot play I have to deal with the constant pop up saying Battlenet connection has been lost or near constant resource stalls, and when I leave games or missions, I've lost all of my experience points or achievements that I would have had.Sheffield119 Sep 1

6m Game freezes while playing Since patch 4.6.0, the game will freeze while I play. By that, I mean the game will stop and nothing will happen but I can still move the mouse cursor, no issue with the music as well. At some point, I will very quickly get the attempt to reconnect screen, followed by the drop screen usually seen when someone else has connection issues but I see myself instead and suddenly the game will accelerates toward a future game state which is when I regain control of the game. My friends mention that from their perspective, it looks like I am about to drop off the game. Most of the time, it happens once per match but sometime it happened twice today in one match and thrice in two other matches. So far, I tried to troubleshoot it in multiple ways such as -Power cycling the network device -Release and renew IP and flush DNS -Update video card and network card drivers -Reinstall the Starcraft 2 game -Reset video driver settings -Run repair tool -Disable in-game reverb setting -Defragment HDD -Check temperature (CPU and GPU temperature are below those given by the Checking for Overheating Components article) -Clean dust from computer case -Close down all possible softwares but Starcraft 2 PC specs CPU: Intel I3-530 @ 2.93 GHz Memory: 4GB DDR3 @ 666 MHz GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT730 OS: Windows 7 Home 64-bitThe game is played on the lowest graphic settings possible at 1920x1080 resolution and the issue is still around. If it is of any help, this issue happens when I play Co-op missions mode as Tychus. Since I do not play other game modes, it's unknown if it is a consistent issue across the board or if it is unique to that game mode.Rizare0 6m
4h Sound doesn't work on 3 Blizzard games Hello, My sound stopped working on three of my Blizzard games. Starcraft II Diablo III HoTS But for some weird reason it still works on Overwatch. My games on Steam still have sound and work fine. For some reason it's just those three, and they worked fine a month ago. I tried all the basic steps, update drivers, re-install drivers, check mixer volumes, unplug, restart, removed everything that has an overlay like discord or razer, removed and re-installed the games, reverted to default settings etc etc. I'm honestly beyond confused, can I get some assistance?Hellbound1 4h
4h Stuck entering lobby Had one friend have this issue prior to the most recent patch, but since the new patch we all (4 people) are getting it every 2 games or so. It only seems to occur after playing an arcade game and trying to join a new game; it has all but the host getting stuck on "entering lobby". When playing solo I seem to get it even more often. Restarting the client fixes it, but it's a bit annoying having to do it every game when playing solo.HazettuR114 4h

4h Achievements are disabled until further notice Hello, When I logged in SC2, "Achievements are disabled until further notice" showed up. And I can't play other multiple games like Co-mission or 1v1. Only can play campaigns. 5h Getting lag in play v ai and custom maps but nothing else. Title says it all. Sometimes it won't even start a game v ai and when it does it quite often lags me out. It literally drops me from a bot game. I've also had times where all the boxes where you chose your race etc are just completely blank and won't load. Can play desert strike and other arcades no problem but when it comes to a 1v1 map all hell seems to be breaking lose. I know its not my computer struggling as i have it on full graphics for desert strike and not a blip. Anyone know what causes this? edit: also getting dropped from 1v1 gamesMegamind3 5h
5h game not saving or loading correctly The campaign mode always starts new campaign first button. Then toggles to a recently played level. But wont save campaign. When it does and I finally find it in my now ultra-minimized window explorer panel to find the saved files, it doesn't load the file. save and load campaign files not working correctly. 7h Co-op - Can't play Alarak without computer seizing up This is... An odd problem, at best. While playing Brutal with Alarak, I seem to be getting major lag spikes and/or complete computer lockups that almost feel like it will end in the entire machine crashing. No other commanders seem to do this, and I'm confused at what may be causing it. This also doesn't happen outside of playing Brutal. I'm currently investigating my hardware, and later software, to see if I can figure out the problem on my end. These are my specs: CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @3.2ghz, Quad core GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 750 RAM: 8GB Motherboard: MSi Gaming 3 Z97-G65 Settings: (Will add later, pretty sure they're on custom medium settings.) 2d Issues with voice chat Friend and I could not for the life of us get the voice chat to work. It showed that our mics were working on our own individual screens, but i did not see the voice bars moving on his portrait and he could not see mine on working on his. 2d Game Editor Instructions. Where? I'm hoping someone can tell me where to find basic guidelines or help regarding "how to create and play my own SC-2 games in offline-mode. For instance, I managed (somehow) to create a simple game where I'm playing against the computer AI. But, I can't figure out how to get the 'enemy' SVC's to start mining minerals and delivering them to the Command Center. The SVC's just sit there and won't do any work. 3d Game alt tabs and no screen Ok I'm really getting annoyed and I don't know what's wrong. I will play a game and everything is fine then it acts like I've alt tabbed which I haven't, leaves me the in game cursor and I can see the resolution difference but no game, back to the desktop. This happens even after a fresh reboot with nothing running yet only a few weeks ago I had no issues running whatever in the background. Yes the pc is old but it's still clocking 4.5ghz on a sandybridge i5 2500k, 32gb ram, 256gb sammy ssd and dual 7950 MSI gpus. Please, WTF is going on or how do I find what's up? Never had this problem, can't associate it with any recent updates or driver updates (which are all current according to slimdrivers), I'm at a loss but I'm tired of starting games and glitching out plus being labeled as a leaver.MeltManBob10 3d

Done... • Please power cycle the network equipment and flush the DNS. Done... • Make sure the Firewall in the computer and router is set up correctly. I disabled anti virus firewall... Back when I played I didn't have it so, if it were this... • Please run StarCraft II in 32-bit mode. Done... I tried playing custom, 1v1, teams, in Europe or America (LA), and still got the same problem. Ranked is greyed out and once I click unranked, it gets gray too. 5d Battle.net Cloud Progress Fails Have attempted numerous re-installs, but cannot get Battle.net cloud savegame progress to download. I have lost all savegame progress, even Mission selection. 5d Not sure if this is the right place to ask Apparently with windows 10 whenever i do alt+tap it will return me back into the game unless i have my internet browser or something else running. Tried to google/youtube a solution but all i got is irreverent spam about some kind of a bug. 3d war chest dilemma for me... So i've never bought any of the war chests, and i'm actually considering this one, cuz i need the stim pack bonus for co op. My issue is... I only play campaign, or co op, and from what i'm hearing... the skins can't be used there... So.. i'm paying 9.99 for skins, and a stim. And i won't be able to use the skins... unless i play versus, and well not every single player... on sc 2 plays versus... So my question to anyone or staff at blizzard.... can you make the skins useable for campaign and co op... I'm not asking for a unit buff, money, i just wanna be able to use the skins.. in all forms of game play... Not just Versus or Arcade mode... That's the only reason stopping me from buying it. Same with the consoles.... you can't even use the console skins... in co op or campaign.. maybe i'm over reacting but.. it just seems odd... to have items.. which certain players, can't access cuz of their game play style....Shadow3 3d
6d Starcraft 2 is down for maintenance. So the maintenance notification is gone from the Blizzard app, Starcraft 2 downloaded an update, I can log in to D3, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and HOTS just fine, but keep getting error that "Battlenet is down for maintenance" ::EDIT:: disregard, maintenance notification has since re-appeared in blizz app.borlosky10 6d
Sep 14 Invalid path chosen! Please chose again. First I download the file StarCraft_2_NA_en-US.exe from battle.net . Next I run the exe file from my desktop. Once the blizzard down-loader pops up, a secondary window pops up asking me to "Browse for folder, Choose a destination directory" Then I select C:\Program Files (x86) I then get the pop up error : Invalid path chosen! Please chose again. I have also tried the directories C:\Program Files and C:\ Any help is appreciated, and if more information is needed I should be able to supply such information. Neight36 Sep 14
Sep 13 What is happening with Co-op commander levels? Sep 13 "graphics device unavailable" error. Upon trying the launch the game, the game will try to load then exit and give me an error message that states "Graphic device is unavailable at this time. Please try starting Starcraft 2 again again or restarting your machine. If the problem persists consult our support website at blizzard.com/support." I have tried restarting computer, scan and repair, and uninstall and reinstall, no progress. Any other advice would be great but I also get it if this is simply a bug that i need to wait to have resolved. I should mention i only recently started having this issue as of this morning, and all other battle.net games work fine for me as well as steam games.AntiHero8 Sep 13
Sep 13 Disconnection Issues I've been having trouble with connectivity lately. I don't really know how to explain it other than a lag spike or something. I'll be playing a game and all of a sudden for seemingly no reason I will be disconnected. I play on my home PC as well as my laptop when I travel for work. It occurs no matter if I'm playing on my own modem at home or a hotel wireless connection abroad on my laptop. At this point the game is basically broken as I cannot get through an entire match without being disconnected. As soon as I return to the menus I get a message saying achievement service has been restored and all will work fine until I join another game and the process repeats. It is worth noting that no matter where I'm at or what PC I'm using the internet connection has never been an issue, I can watch Netflix for example and suffer no disconnect there while SC2 falls all over itself. Sep 12 Stuck on downloading patch ( again AND AGAIN) Hello blizzard, Again you made a crap sc2 update, and again i am killing 1 hour of my life to try to download it, restart my computer and again and again and finally for some reason it works. When the f will you stop making random updates every 2 days that only interest some ppl who play coop or some other "things". I play ladder and only ladder. It works perfectly until you put all the time theses updates that i dont even need. Every time it stucks my computer. its not like we were in 2010 and the game was new. We are in 2018 and every time ppl complain about that problem and u never fix it. Blizzard app is slow as f and slow downs my computer aswell. Do i need a nasa computer to make your soft working? Sep 12 How do I get to menu? Hi Guys, just bought and installed Starcraft 2 and have an issue with getting back to the Menu screen to quit the game? I have tried the "esc" key and ended up with ctrl/alt/delete in desperation to stop the game. Please help? Cheers, SKYHAWKSKYHAWK1 Sep 12
Sep 12 Promotional Content timer reset itself Starcraft II patch 4.6.1 has reset the promotional content timer to another 5 days. https://imgur.com/a/9PERMxe?desktop=1 This is getting sort of ridiculous to have it on there for 5 days, then have it reset again after a patch that was supposed to remove it. Promotional content on the home screen in game is interfering and mixing with background music of the already selected background content. So having "Planets" mixed with "Sweet Home Alabama" is getting old as well.Walmart0 Sep 12

Sep 11 black screen and audio only Hi, I have been trying to play SC2 and just get a black screen upon launching the program. I hear the audio just fine. I updated my video drivers, ran the repair tool, reset the in-game options, and ran the program in windows mode. I still just have audio. Please help, thanks.franknbeanz5 Sep 11
Sep 10 Starcraft servers well not respond for a month now I can not log into the game or navigate to any blizzard starcraft 2 page or update my game. I can go to other Blizzard game sites and this forum obviously. I was wondering if I was banned for some unknown resin but that doesn't really make sense and I got no e-mail? I have tried to replace my browser and clear my internet cash but it did not help. any ideas how to fix this?DentedMech1 Sep 10
