Feb 24, 2011 Lag I'm experiencing alot of lag. Before I get slammed, I'll clarify that: 1. I have all the graphic settings on lowest or disabled. 2. My computer sux. Nothing I can do about that. I don't think it's my ISP, because 1. I upgraded to FiOS, and still have the same problem. 2. The game also drags in campaign. So, my questions are: 1. HOW do I identify the amount of latency? 2. Are there any adjustments I can make to counter it? For example, in campaign, it'll move on regular speed for a few minutes, then starts moving at 1/4 speed. Not a gameplay problem, just everything moves SLOOOWLY (and very easy). But it makes multiplayer impossible. When I click on a unit, the "activate action" animation flashes about 0.5-1 second later. So when I try to select an SCV, it's already back at the mineral line. I end up having to click where I THINK it'll be a second later when I select it. I end up having to drag-select a whole bunch of them, and randomly selecting 1 from the wireframe to carry out another action. And when my units are moving, I can forget about accessing them. Thanks.Orion4 Feb 24, 2011
Feb 24, 2011 Fullscreen fps vs Windowed (fullscreen) fps Im currently running on 1900x1200 resolution, with everything on max. I tested running on Twilight Fortress, since I remember getting some fps issues here. When Im running on Fullscreen, the fps counter says its at 60 fps, but the game itself is very hitchy; not smooth at all. The 60 fps option is selected, as well as V-Sync. When I turn this off, its a bit smoother, but its all sorts of crazy tearing. This is even in the beginning of the game when there are not as much units running around. When I turn on Windowed (fullscreen) however, its incredibly smooth. At least in the beginning of the game, its running exactly how 60 fps should run. The framerate goes down when there are more units around later in the game. Any help would be appreciated!Rrang1 Feb 24, 2011
Feb 24, 2011 just reinstalled game and cant see screen i just reinstalled windows 7, updated my driver, and reinstalled sc2. I loaded the game, and im getting a black screen but i hear sound, and a message in the middle of the screen saying im out of range. I would love to be able to lower the resolution, but given a black screen, I'm not even given an option to do so. Does anyone know how this is possible to fix? Thanks.Pyrodox4 Feb 24, 2011

Feb 24, 2011 New computer, one small issue. I'm now running this game on Ultra, and it looks oh so awesome! One thing though, sometimes when a character is in view, I get what looks like a dotted line running down the screen. Its not present all the time. I'm curious as to what that could be? it doesn't show up in any other game. Any suggestions? I have an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, 6cores running about 3.2gighz, 6 gigs of DDR3 1333hz ram. A Radeon HD 5770 1GB! I love this thing, all for Diablo 3, this game, and others. Screenshot, can't really tell in this small resolution, but on my 1080P 21" Monitor its easy to see. Feb 24, 2011 Game crashes consistently: Base17326\SC2.exe My game crashes almost every time a play, the recurrence is inconsistent but is always the same issue. I run the repair tool every time it happens. I have tried every solution i can think of: Re-installing, Re-downloading (i bought digital copy), firewall exceptions, administrator privaleges, installing on another hard drive (in case the HDD may be dying), I tested all my RAM sticks individually to see if any of them are bad, all my video drivers and whatnot have been updated. I hoped the 1.2.1 patch would fix it, but didnt. It still crases in 1.2.2 under the same error: ================================================================================ StarCraft II (B17811) Time: 2011-02-24 00:31:57.168 Exe: F:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Versions\Base17326\SC2.exe Parameters: Exe Built: 2011-02-21 18:17:35.945 User: Grady Computer: GRADY-PC Version: 1.2.2.17811 Branch: branches/1.2.b Revision: 90756 Locale: enUS ================================================================================ e_fileCorrupt "Your StarCraft II installation is corrupt. Feb 24, 2011 Sony VAIO crashes to BSOD every single game. It looks like the file where the crash is happening belongs to Nvidia video driver. Unfortunately, the latest video driver available from Sony is dated March 19, 2010: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VPCCW2SGXB&upd_id=5577&os_id=47 , while on Nvidia website the latest diver is from October 14, 2010: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-260.89-whql-driver.html Unfortunately, the above website says: "Sony VAIO notebooks are not supported at this time (please contact Sony for driver support)." This leaves me in a pickle. I have a brand-new laptop that does not run SC2. Shompol5 Feb 24, 2011
Feb 24, 2011 SC2 stopping at 30% while downloading. I'm downloading SC2 off of a CD that I've used to download SC2 before off of. The error I get is this: The installer was unable to read the file "Repack-MPQ\fileset.base#Campaigns#Liberty.SC2Campaign#base.SC2Assets\Assets\Textures\briefing_video_thorner01_00_low.ogv". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at E:\--for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The error code was 5.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (ReadJob::Execute) The Blizzard installer from the online B.net downloader is going past 30%, but won't be done for about 6 more hours.Vintaged2 Feb 24, 2011
Feb 24, 2011 Crashing whole computer on load Hello, I have been able to play SC2 on my computer mostly problem free for quite a while now. As of a few days ago I have been unable to play at all because my client freezes right before or on the login screen. Sometimes its just a 30 second hang, followed by more hang, and that will give me enough time to close the app, at which point my computer seems to return to normal. Otherwise I hear a strange click from my computer (hdd spin?) and my computer resets, no BSOD. I thought this was weird, but acknowledged that I hadn't done a format in a while and my computer might be a little dirty. So I blew out all the dust from it, and formatted it with Windows 7 Professional x64. I just tried to boot SC2 up after all the patching, and it crashed the whole computer again!! Ack! What can I do? Thanks. EDIT: I should also mention that I'm using a Linksys WMP54G V4 wireless card, and I have to force it to use RALINK drivers on Win7 x64. But this has never been a problem in the past. Feb 24, 2011 Yo Blizzard, fix the memory problem.. So why must I have to wait 3 minutes to maximize my game from windows? No other game in existence has this problem so if its fixable that would be lovely as being dropped from a game because my antivirus felt the need to drop my game and tell me it needs to update. This happens often with either a program or I need to minimize to turn down music ect...SchfiftyFive16 Feb 24, 2011

Feb 24, 2011 Constantly Dropped After 1.21 Patch I installed the 1.21 patch earlier tonight, and I've been dropped from 8 of 10 games played since. Even in the games that I didn't drop in, I've lagged the game down to a standstill, so there's a "play-pause" action that never goes away. The game is unplayable. I've checked my internet connection, and that's not the problem; even while I'm lagging the game, I can still talk on Skype (though I've tried disabling Skype to see if that's the problem, and it's not). I've never had issues like this before the 1.21 patch, and I don't know whether to reinstall the game or what. Please help me!Boomchunka5 Feb 24, 2011

Feb 23, 2011 Cannot connect to Battle.net on SC2 , but I can connect to and play WoW, which is also on Battle.net. My internet connection is perfectly fine and my friends within my area can play Starcraft II just fine. The error message says that it is waiting for a response from Battle.net, and has a loading circle, but it obviously never loads. Suggestions? Edit: This has been going on for around two and a half days.Vintaged5 Feb 23, 2011

Jul 7, 2011 {editor} Frustrating publishing error of doom Hey guys, I just spent two weeks working/fumbling around on a map who's size ended up at 9.63 MB (when explored through right click-->properties it shows up as 9.63, in the map uploader it shows up as 10.3 MB or sometimes 10.6). Now, I've never uploaded anything to b.net before, but when I try to publish my map it says "Publish failed, map size is too large." I was under the impression we could have up to 50 MB uploaded. I am currently sitting at 0 MB uploaded, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but 9.63 (or even 10.6)MB is not equal to 50 MB. Here is a screen shot of the space I've used (none): http://tinypic.com/r/2w4wxgj/7 And here is the error box when I try to publish: http://tinypic.com/r/2n7l04/7 I have been using the "Smaller File" save preference. If it is refering to the actual map bounds, the map is only 186x184. I'm kind of really ticked off with this, as I had another project planned that will be at least 5 times the complexity of this map but it appears I may not even be able to upload this current map. Things to note: My map is pretty basic in terms of complexity, pretty much a standard melee map, except you gain a hero unit depending on what start location you end up in. There are 4 hero units, one for each starting area. Each hero has about 4 or so unique abilities, their own sound files and model. Not that big, right? The map I was planning on doing next would have about 12 new units with their own unique models and sound files, as well as at least 3 new buildings, as well as camera edits and a unit selection screen at the start of the map, but this looks like it's impossible if the map I just finished is too large. Does anyone have any advice? Should I just give up? Is there a common error here that is easily fixable so I can upload? Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide ( I realize there is limited support for the editor).Thirteen12 Jul 7, 2011
Feb 23, 2011 Not gaining points from wins Hey, Basically its just like the title says. This started a few days ago. I was out of town and didnt play for a few days and finally got back on the game to check my standing. I saw in my 3v3 I moved from 3rd to 4th. Thats fine, but I stricly remember I was tied for 4th. So I played a game, won it. I gained 4 point, not much but it should of moved me up - however, it didnt. I played another, won, and still - same amount of points and tied for 4th. I tried another. Again, same story. 2 days later, today, I played another 3v3. Even match, played well and won. Sepose to gain 32 points but still, nothing changed in the standings. Is this a problem that blizzard is looking into or anyone else having the same issue? Thnx.Ice3 Feb 23, 2011
Feb 23, 2011 Cheating Question on Skirmishes and Campaign A friend of mine wants to purchase SC2 and also likes to cheat using the In Game cheat codes built into the game ( He only play skirmishes and campaign modes not multi player ladder ). I told him that he's not gonna earn any points if he is using cheats, he's okay with that. Since blizzard is banning players that are using cheats is it safe to use the built in cheat codes in SC2? Not using any trainers just the cheat codes that are built into the game. ThanksBopBop6 Feb 23, 2011
Feb 23, 2011 Patch Aborted ?? I was running the game just fine last night on both the US and EU copies that I have, then this morning I had some issues with my laptop so I did a system restore, then suddenly right now, I try to run it, it starts a patch, then suddenly patching aborts with the following error message. The patch "pc-battlenet-hdfiles\Support\Battle.net.dll" could not be applied. Doesn't do it till i'm in game. Put it on low and now its crashing immediately. Feb 23, 2011 Game fried my video card. Just bought the game this morning installed it and patched it. My friend linked me to the frame rate fix, so I did that the proper way and figured it would all be good. I play the first 2 missions with no problem what so ever. Next time I booted up the game right as i entered my battle.net email, the game locks up, then tons of greens lines appear vertically on my screen. I figure that its a simple error so i close the game, and everything on my screen is messed up too. I restart my computer and to my horror my bios screen has the same graphical error. It loads to my desktop screen, and everything is all artifacty. I've never had a problem with my video card before, it runs RE5 and Red Faction Guerrilla both on high settings without any issues. I have also played in the beta of SC2 and had NO issues or hiccups with the game either, it ran perfectly. My specs are the following. (Nothing on my computer was overclocked either) AMD Athlon 2 x4 620 running at 2.61 GHz 2 Gigs of DDR 2 RAM Windows XP sp3 And the video card was a EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320, now its just a brick. I know I'm not the only person to have an issue with the game frying video cards, I just want to know if Blizzard/Activision plans on rectifying it.Puntar241 Feb 23, 2011

Feb 23, 2011 Like no points I get 2 points for winning a 1v1 because it always says im favored, however i think this is an error as i just played a match where my OPPONENT was favored, and won, and it gave me 2 saying i was favored, this must be an error of some form. Im tired of getting 2 for winning and losing 8 for losing, i cant get out of bronze because i'd need an 80% win rate to go even, not even positive, not even white ra has that.derpkipz4 Feb 23, 2011

Feb 23, 2011 [Solution] ATI freezing/crashing I found an official solution for the ATI "grey screen of death", which has solved all my freezing problems in addition to the occasional grey screen of death. There was actually no problem with starcraft 2 itself, but rather there's an issue with the drivers. This issue is over a year old, and is triggered when playing certain games. Simply download the hotfix from the link below and install it. It does say that it's only for ATI Radeon HD 5800 series only, HOWEVER, I have an ATI Radeon HD 4670 and I installed it and it worked like a charm! I added this hotfix to Catalyst 10.7 http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Grey-screen-and-vertical-line-corruptions.aspx To clarify, this will only help you if experience this : http://computer-hardware.org/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cache/11abc_ati-grey-screen-of-death-300x200.png or consistent freezing in the game and you use an ATI Radeon HD xxxx video card. Feb 23, 2011 Game crashing after entering Battle.net name A little bit of a background (system specs at bottom of post), I used to be able to play this game just fine. I reformatted my computer, and whenever I would try to play after reinstalling, the game either crashes when I first start it (before even the splash loading image shows). So, I figured after doing a defrag and virus scan didn't work, maybe a file got corrupted while downloading. So, I uninstalled SC2, including all the save data and such, and reinstalled the game again (without reformatting my computer this time). Now, whenever I type in my Battle.net username (e-mail), it crashes to my desktop. There's no error message or anything, it just exits out. I've hit the enter key to submit my username, as well as clicked on the "Continue" button. I could play this game before on a worse system than what I'm using now, so I'm quite confused. My GPU drivers are up to date, as well. The old system specs listed are what would run the game, the new specs are what I'm using now (since the reformat of my computer I mentioned). Old System Specs CPU: AMD Dual Core 3800+ (2.0 GHz; did overclock to 2.5 GHz without issues with game) GPU: nVidia 9500 GT (512 MB memory) OS: Windows 7 Professional (both 32 and 64 bit [reinstalled the OS and game many times during this period using both OSes and it worked just fine) -Updated drivers constantly- New System Specs CPU: AMD Phenom X4 985 (2.5 GHz) GPU: nVidia 9600 GT (1 GB memory) OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit -Updated drivers constantly- I can't give specifics on what patch started this, but I know it was working during the 1.0 and 1.1 releases (at least 1.1.0). Before I reinstalled the game the last time, when it crashed it'd give me a message there was an error in module SC2.exe, but now I don't get that. I've also tried running it in compatibility mode, as well as having "run as administrator" checked. I'm at a loss now as to what to do, but I miss playing this game.raevin3 Feb 23, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Unable to Join Game/Battle.net Disc's I have been having this problem for a while now, i am unable to join any games/Party's on both my US and my EU account. I can log in, but after logging it i cannot see any of the Battle.net news and i cannot search for games or join party's. I am currently running all the newest patches and i am just about to start running the repair tool. Anyone else got an idea?Yingyangs1 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 22, 2011 Commands cause game to freeze I am having an issue where it seems that every minute or so, any kind of action (moving, researching, selecting) results in a 3 second freeze followed by like a fast forward to where it should be. I don't think this is a network problem because the game is not stopped by the lag, as would usually occur if my signal was cutting out. I'm running a fairly powerful laptop, I was able to run the game on high for the first few months of owning this game and never had a problem, minus the occasional 3v3 with 200/200 armies on the field. I can play games like bfbc2 usually with no significant problems. I have noticed that other games have this issue every once in a while, but it is FAR more present in SC2. I may re-install my os/programs soon because my performance is going down hill but I would rather not do that. Feb 22, 2011 Authentication Key cannot be claimed Hey everyone. I just got a new mac and I want to install SC2 on it. I've been playing the game on a seperate laptop, and i'm using the same disk that I used on the laptop on the new mac. When it asks me to link an existing starcraft account with an activation key I get the message An error has occurred. The authentication key you entered cannot be claimed. Please check the key and try again. Alternatively, you can enter this key for a different region by changing the leading part of the www.battle.net URL (ex. “eu.battle.net”) in your web browser, or for a different Battle.net account. Does this mean its not possible to use the same disk on two computers? Or two accounts? Some help would be greatly appreciated.Redrum1 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Constantly crashing. This has actually been happening for a while now, but lately a lot more frequently than it used to. I'll be playing a multiplayer match, and the game will just crash randomly. This morning it happened in 2 out of the 4 matches I've played. VERY frustrating. When the game crashes, an ErrorReporter pops up allowing me to send information to blizzard regarding the crash. It also says this: ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005) occurred at 0023:00C7EF39. The memory at '0x00000000' could not be read. All my drivers are up to date and everything. I'm running an ATi Radeon 5870, and i7, and 8 gigs of RAM. Justin16 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 22, 2011 Crashing to Desktop Every Time At Countdown I've never had a single issue before today. The game loads up fine, but when the matchmaking countdown reaches 0 (i.e., when it should transition to the 1v1 loading screen) the game crashes cleanly to desktop; no crash reporter, no errors, nothing. SC2 repair says I need to reinstall the game? I suppose I'll go try that, but would like to know why this has happened. Happy birthday to me, no SC2 I guess (have to leave shortly for class) =\ Please help!HalcyonMaus3 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 22, 2011 Some Sounds Cut Out Randomly Lately while playing Starcraft 2, I've noticed that sometimes a unit won't make a sound when selected or given a command. Sometimes in Starjeweled, matches or generating units will be silent, or maybe only make part of the sound. I've tested everything I can, and I don't know if I have a bad install or something, but it used to work fine, just now sometimes units don't play their command sounds, or other sound effects are silent. Has anyone had this problem, or know what could cause it in general?FlyingAces1 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 2 Minute Publish Timeout (Blue Post Please) so ive been trying to upload my map to the servers but with the 2 minute timeout it's impossible to upload anything over 7.15MBs, meaning i could never make use of my full 50 MBs given to my account. That being said, i also have the highest internet package available from time warner cable (premium, with turbo) i get 10 MBps download but only 512Kbps upload. and the 2 minute timeout kills me. Is there any chance that this window of opportunity will be given any extra time or am i stuck? or if at all possible what ISP's might be able to offer a great upload speed, i was on the phone with about 15 different tech support an sales reps with Time Warner Cable and they couldnt do anything for me as i have their best package.MangledMind2 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Possible fix for SC2 SLI issues in Cutscenes. To those who are getting lag and chop in cutscenes on the Hyperion Bridge and Cantina and are running SLI setups that shouldn't be experiencing this: 1. Open your NVidia Control Panel. 2. Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' 3. Switch to the 'Program Settings' tab 4. If Starcraft II.exe isn't in the drop-down box, click 'add' and navigate to it in your Starcraft II directory. 5. With Starcraft II selected, change the SLI Rendering Mode drop-down to 'Force Alternate Frame Rendering 1'. 6. Click 'Apply'. Start SC2. Enter campaign having just completed Zero Hour, you should be on the bridge. 7. Play the cutscene with Matt Horner. It will chop gently at first but then play smoothly. I'd like for anyone else with an SLI setup to please confirm this, as long as you've got a campaign playthrough that starts on the Bridge with a cutscene available that demonstrates the bug. However. this only lasts until you leave the bridge and return, restart SC2, or Alt-tab out and back in. I believe these actions reset the setting to something unoptimal, which causes the chop. It's interesting that it can be fixed temporarily with this method, and then SC2 probably re-overrides the SLI rendering mode which reinstates the bug. Happy hunting on this one Devs.Ranzear0 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Vacuum Cleaner = Improved FPS I was going through the technical support stickies when I read that overheating can cause massive FPS drops a few minutes into the game. My computer hadn't been vacuumed since I installed Windows 7 on it, and it had accumulated a lot of dust. So I pulled out the vacuum to clean my computer, opening it to carefully clean the parts I could reach inside, and for good measure, I also vacuumed my keyboard. Wow. What a difference it makes! My computer is much quieter, and performance has improved by a lot. It seems that all that accumulated dust caused overheating problems, so I thought I'd share this tip with you in case it might help you, too.AronTimes6 Feb 22, 2011
