Feb 23, 2011 Game crashing after entering Battle.net name A little bit of a background (system specs at bottom of post), I used to be able to play this game just fine. I reformatted my computer, and whenever I would try to play after reinstalling, the game either crashes when I first start it (before even the splash loading image shows). So, I figured after doing a defrag and virus scan didn't work, maybe a file got corrupted while downloading. So, I uninstalled SC2, including all the save data and such, and reinstalled the game again (without reformatting my computer this time). Now, whenever I type in my Battle.net username (e-mail), it crashes to my desktop. There's no error message or anything, it just exits out. I've hit the enter key to submit my username, as well as clicked on the "Continue" button. I could play this game before on a worse system than what I'm using now, so I'm quite confused. My GPU drivers are up to date, as well. The old system specs listed are what would run the game, the new specs are what I'm using now (since the reformat of my computer I mentioned). Old System Specs CPU: AMD Dual Core 3800+ (2.0 GHz; did overclock to 2.5 GHz without issues with game) GPU: nVidia 9500 GT (512 MB memory) OS: Windows 7 Professional (both 32 and 64 bit [reinstalled the OS and game many times during this period using both OSes and it worked just fine) -Updated drivers constantly- New System Specs CPU: AMD Phenom X4 985 (2.5 GHz) GPU: nVidia 9600 GT (1 GB memory) OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit -Updated drivers constantly- I can't give specifics on what patch started this, but I know it was working during the 1.0 and 1.1 releases (at least 1.1.0). Before I reinstalled the game the last time, when it crashed it'd give me a message there was an error in module SC2.exe, but now I don't get that. I've also tried running it in compatibility mode, as well as having "run as administrator" checked. I'm at a loss now as to what to do, but I miss playing this game.raevin3 Feb 23, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Unable to Join Game/Battle.net Disc's I have been having this problem for a while now, i am unable to join any games/Party's on both my US and my EU account. I can log in, but after logging it i cannot see any of the Battle.net news and i cannot search for games or join party's. I am currently running all the newest patches and i am just about to start running the repair tool. Anyone else got an idea?Yingyangs1 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Legacy Forums On the old forums (diablo 2, diablo 2 lod, diablo 3, wc3...etc...) is it possible to have my account re-activated? I just tried to login during an extended absence and it doesn't work.HalfDead4 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Commands cause game to freeze I am having an issue where it seems that every minute or so, any kind of action (moving, researching, selecting) results in a 3 second freeze followed by like a fast forward to where it should be. I don't think this is a network problem because the game is not stopped by the lag, as would usually occur if my signal was cutting out. I'm running a fairly powerful laptop, I was able to run the game on high for the first few months of owning this game and never had a problem, minus the occasional 3v3 with 200/200 armies on the field. I can play games like bfbc2 usually with no significant problems. I have noticed that other games have this issue every once in a while, but it is FAR more present in SC2. I may re-install my os/programs soon because my performance is going down hill but I would rather not do that. Here is the Dxdiag, I'll try to get temperatures I'm running 64 bit windows vista, I've also tried adding the nocpubinding thing to the shortcut with no success ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 2/22/2011, 11:34:53 Machine name: ZEUS Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.101014-0432) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gateway System Model: P-7805u BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz Memory: 4090MB RAM Page File: 3743MB used, 4627MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 7.00.6002.18107 64bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. Feb 22, 2011 Authentication Key cannot be claimed Hey everyone. I just got a new mac and I want to install SC2 on it. I've been playing the game on a seperate laptop, and i'm using the same disk that I used on the laptop on the new mac. When it asks me to link an existing starcraft account with an activation key I get the message An error has occurred. The authentication key you entered cannot be claimed. Please check the key and try again. Alternatively, you can enter this key for a different region by changing the leading part of the www.battle.net URL (ex. “eu.battle.net”) in your web browser, or for a different Battle.net account. Does this mean its not possible to use the same disk on two computers? Or two accounts? Some help would be greatly appreciated.Redrum1 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Constantly crashing. This has actually been happening for a while now, but lately a lot more frequently than it used to. I'll be playing a multiplayer match, and the game will just crash randomly. This morning it happened in 2 out of the 4 matches I've played. VERY frustrating. When the game crashes, an ErrorReporter pops up allowing me to send information to blizzard regarding the crash. It also says this: ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005) occurred at 0023:00C7EF39. The memory at '0x00000000' could not be read. All my drivers are up to date and everything. I'm running an ATi Radeon 5870, and i7, and 8 gigs of RAM. Justin16 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 22, 2011 Crashing to Desktop Every Time At Countdown I've never had a single issue before today. The game loads up fine, but when the matchmaking countdown reaches 0 (i.e., when it should transition to the 1v1 loading screen) the game crashes cleanly to desktop; no crash reporter, no errors, nothing. SC2 repair says I need to reinstall the game? I suppose I'll go try that, but would like to know why this has happened. Happy birthday to me, no SC2 I guess (have to leave shortly for class) =\ Please help!HalcyonMaus3 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 22, 2011 Some Sounds Cut Out Randomly Lately while playing Starcraft 2, I've noticed that sometimes a unit won't make a sound when selected or given a command. Sometimes in Starjeweled, matches or generating units will be silent, or maybe only make part of the sound. I've tested everything I can, and I don't know if I have a bad install or something, but it used to work fine, just now sometimes units don't play their command sounds, or other sound effects are silent. Has anyone had this problem, or know what could cause it in general?FlyingAces1 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 2 Minute Publish Timeout (Blue Post Please) so ive been trying to upload my map to the servers but with the 2 minute timeout it's impossible to upload anything over 7.15MBs, meaning i could never make use of my full 50 MBs given to my account. That being said, i also have the highest internet package available from time warner cable (premium, with turbo) i get 10 MBps download but only 512Kbps upload. and the 2 minute timeout kills me. Is there any chance that this window of opportunity will be given any extra time or am i stuck? or if at all possible what ISP's might be able to offer a great upload speed, i was on the phone with about 15 different tech support an sales reps with Time Warner Cable and they couldnt do anything for me as i have their best package.MangledMind2 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Possible fix for SC2 SLI issues in Cutscenes. To those who are getting lag and chop in cutscenes on the Hyperion Bridge and Cantina and are running SLI setups that shouldn't be experiencing this: 1. Open your NVidia Control Panel. 2. Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' 3. Switch to the 'Program Settings' tab 4. If Starcraft II.exe isn't in the drop-down box, click 'add' and navigate to it in your Starcraft II directory. 5. With Starcraft II selected, change the SLI Rendering Mode drop-down to 'Force Alternate Frame Rendering 1'. 6. Click 'Apply'. Start SC2. Enter campaign having just completed Zero Hour, you should be on the bridge. 7. Play the cutscene with Matt Horner. It will chop gently at first but then play smoothly. I'd like for anyone else with an SLI setup to please confirm this, as long as you've got a campaign playthrough that starts on the Bridge with a cutscene available that demonstrates the bug. However. this only lasts until you leave the bridge and return, restart SC2, or Alt-tab out and back in. I believe these actions reset the setting to something unoptimal, which causes the chop. It's interesting that it can be fixed temporarily with this method, and then SC2 probably re-overrides the SLI rendering mode which reinstates the bug. Happy hunting on this one Devs.Ranzear0 Feb 22, 2011
Feb 22, 2011 Vacuum Cleaner = Improved FPS I was going through the technical support stickies when I read that overheating can cause massive FPS drops a few minutes into the game. My computer hadn't been vacuumed since I installed Windows 7 on it, and it had accumulated a lot of dust. So I pulled out the vacuum to clean my computer, opening it to carefully clean the parts I could reach inside, and for good measure, I also vacuumed my keyboard. Wow. What a difference it makes! My computer is much quieter, and performance has improved by a lot. It seems that all that accumulated dust caused overheating problems, so I thought I'd share this tip with you in case it might help you, too.AronTimes6 Feb 22, 2011

Feb 21, 2011 What is causing SCII to run so mediocre? I'm not a big computer whiz but I generally know the basics of computers, maybe not as much as I used too. When Starcraft II was approaching release my computer what three years old and I knew if I wanted to run Starcraft II well, it was time for a new PC. So here are the recommendations on the box to run the game well Windows 7 Dual Core 2.4GhZ 2GB RAM 512MB NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTX or ATI Radeon HD 3870 or better I spent I believe close to a $1 000, and here are my computer specs Windows 7 2 QUAD CPU @ 2.5GHZ 8GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series Now according to my personal knowledge I should be able to run the game fairly smoothly. Instead my resolution is set at 1440 x 900 and about 60% of my settings are set on low, and the other 40% on medium, I'm quite sure nothing is set on high. On these settings the game runs fairly smooth but I know it could look a lot better. Basically I just don't understand because it appears to me that my computer specs are over the recommended settings my Blizzard yet it still runs very stale. Am I missing something here? Do you have to have a top of the line PC to run this game on good settings? What is it about my PC that is holding the game back because I am willing to upgrade. I feel my PC is not reaching its full potential for this game, and it bothers me because it's the only game I play on my PC. All suggestions and feedback welcome.ShaDow23 Feb 21, 2011

Feb 21, 2011 Mouse & keyboard response issues Greetings, I started having a very odd problem since I switched to Windows 7 64 bit. There is a very strange ~1 sec. lag in my mouse and/or keyboard response time (that is, it takes about a second for the game to detect a cursor position change, a click of any kind or a keystroke from the keyboard) which makes it virtually impossible to play. I am currently using a Logitech G15 keyboard and MX518 mouse -which I had been using to great effect up until a couple weeks ago when I dropped Windows XP64- and the odd thing here (aside from the problem itself) is that this only happens when playing SC2. Thinking something was wrong with either device I consulted the Logitech forums and while there have been reports of similar problems with a variety of devices running with Windows 7; none of these match the devices I am using. I'm desperate enough that I tried the proposed fixes (anyway) to no effect. Tonight I went out and grabbed a generic (VERY generic) keyboard and mouse pair that I use to play at work and the problem still persists. Given that I play at work with these devices just fine and that I played just as well on my own computer while it was running Windows XP, I have to ask: is there any issue between SC2 and Windows 7 that don't know about? Does anyone have a similar problem or is able to provide a possible solution? Sadly, downgrading back to XP64 for the sake of SC2 is not an option :( Thanks in advance for any help. Feb 21, 2011 Lag Problem Hi. I built my new computer about 2 weeks ago: i7 980X 6-core, HD 5970, 6GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz, and a 60GB SSD with Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. So, I started playing WoW and everything was perfect: a steady 200fps in everywhere (excluding towns where I got 80-100fps), and was very happy. About Wednesday, this changed.. I started lagging; my home ping was 300ms, and my world/realm ping was 1000. So, in thought that it was the most recent patch that came out only a day before the problem was noticed, I went out and bought Starcraft 2 to keep me busy because I saw a lot of threads of people having the same problem in WoW: so it was only a matter of time before they fixed it. I cranked everything up to Ultra, turned Fraps on and was getting about 130fps. Perfect, I have a 120Hz 1080p 32" Sony Bravio so I don't need over 120fps.. however, I had to turn Vertical Sync on because of the screen tearing issue when scrolling. I was very happy until I noticed that when I'm in a Battle.Net game, every 5-10 seconds my game freezes for a second, then goes back to normal.. it's extremely annoying and is constant every 10 seconds; it makes the game almost unplayable. However, when I'm in Campaign, I get NO lag what so ever.. to people saying it's my fault: I've simultaneously ran Ventrilo and Teamspeak while running WoW and Starcraft 2 (separately and together), and had my Vent ping stay at 33ms while my Teamspeak stayed at 64. If that isn't enough, I tested my speed: 24.19mbps download, 5.41mbps upload. After, I tested my ping: 25ms, 1ms Jitter, 0 packet loss. I've tried running Tracerts to the Battle.Net server, and everything is fine (20-30ms) until the 10th hop, which connects to AT&T; which, I'm guessing, is where the problem is. I've opened all of my ports, even attempted running DMZ.. I've turned off my Microsoft Windows 7 Firewall, and let ports pass in it. I've also tried turning off my Microsoft Security Essentials, not that I expected it to do anything, but I turned it off anyways. I'm really confused here.. I've been a Battle.Net player since Warcraft 2 and have never, EVER, experienced ANY issues besides the "router/firewall = no hosting, sorry users!" So, I'm asking: what else can I do/try to fix the problem, and WHERE is the problem? Thanks in advanced for your help.Awfulz1 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Compute Trubles I'm going to be honest i don't know that much about computers. I know the basics and what not and so for thats been working out fine but now that i started play starcraft i have been having a lot of problem. Firstly it takes about 60 to 90 seconds to load starcraft just to the login screen. then if i tab out of Bnet it takes about two to three min to get back in. i have had to Ctrl Alt Delete to get out of frozen screen usual happens to be black screens that happen when i'm trying to tab back into bnet. it has gotten a little better after i turn everything to low, however everything was on low other then models before this point also i play wow and if this helps add any perspective i run on lowiest settings and can get only about 20 fps in 25 mans. here is my set up ati radeon hd 3600 (video card, i honestly think this is the problem right here) ADM athlon 64 duel core possessor 5000+ 2.6 GHz (i have no idea what that is i'm about to Google that after i post this and will edit) 3.25 G ram if this at all matters i'm running windows XP home version 2002 service pack 3 if you can help me at all help me figure this all out and enplane some of it to me that be very helpful. i need to get this stuff working better becouse this really sucks the fun out of WoW having horable FPS. it also makes tabbing in starcraft not possible tho it runs nice on lowest possable but thats not saying much as it is worse looking then warcraft 3. Any help would be very nice and if you need more info on comp and how it runs let me know. and if you some computer allstar let me know that stuff i could buy that will work very well on starcraft, wow, and possible crisis ect. my comp being bad on wow has hindered me from buying fps on my computer and instead getting it for my xbox. sorry for wall of text :( tried to keep it as short as i could. also please be nice about me not knowing this very well. also i posted this in gen too, hope thats ok i just really want this to be answered soon because its ruining my gaming experience.Void2 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Phillips 244E Monitor sound issues. I've been having a bit of trouble getting sound working on this monitor (Phillips 244E) while using an HDMI cable from my laptop to the monitor itself. I recently updated the driver, which did get it working for a short while - could listen to itunes, youtube etc. I tried going on Starcraft, and all sounds coming from the monitor just stopped, including the music in the background. I would have to restart to get the sound working once again on my Monitor as opposed to the laptop speakers. If anyone has any advice or solutions I would appreciate it.baneseven6 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Lost Temple FPS Drop Whenever I play an LT map, the base on the middle right tends to lag all the time. When I move my mouse to view the position of the base the frame rate drops by at least 15-20 frame rate. And kind of stutters. And everywhere else seems fine. There are rare occasions where all bases will get laggy but all I have to do is reload the map and play again. But the first problem persist. I have the latest gpu driver. Here are my specs - Windows 7 AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition 12gig DDR3 MB Ram Nvidia 460 SC FTW 1 Gig Ram 1200W PSU I run the game on 1920x1080 maxed out btw and it generally runs 40-60fps. Extreme conditions would be 25-30fps. Which isnt bad. So I know it's not my specs thats creating this issue... I've also looked in a thread about deleting the Cache files within the SC 2 folder which I have not tried yet. But if anyone knows whats going on with this problem and can tell me what it is I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks : DNEYUS1 Feb 21, 2011

Feb 21, 2011 Replay Low FPS Ive had this problem with my replay for quite some time now. [u]When ever i begin a replay the instant the replay begins to start the FPS drops to 1-3 and makes this clicking noise about every 2 seconds or so. I have not had the patience to watch for more than about 3 mins. So i basically can not watch replays at all. The only way i have had any success in getting rid of this problem is to reinstall SC2. Which only temporarily fixes the issue; about a week later its back. Ive browsed around and it seems alot of people are having issues similar to mine but not exactly like mine. Feb 21, 2011 Issues with sound I have a dell vostro 3400 with the latest IDT audio drivers for windows xp. However, I'm experiencing no sound when I actually start the game. I could hear the dialogue during install but not in game. Any help you could give would be great! GrizzGrizzlyblair1 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Watching myself lag out This started tonight. I see an in-game message in the lower left saying that I've lost the connection to Battle.Net, then I watch myself lag out. I can even chat with the other player(s) when I'm counting down. Then it says I was dropped. I've already lost 4 games because of this, it is becoming really frustrating. I'd appreciate any help you can provide me.Zanmato1 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Cant seem to get ports forwarded I used portforward.com to open the port for starcraft 2, but even using those instructions the port wasnt open. I'm trying to open it because I'm having a delay over battle.net. Would it be safe to enable dmz for like a minute, to be sure of whether or not it is a port problem? I'm unsure because I searched google and read forum posts of people saying that your computer could become infected within minutes somehow.faceXkicker0 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Native resolution support? I heard you could create a custom resolution in SC but I don't see my native desktop res under available options. If it has not been implemented yet I would pledge the dev community to work on it and look forward seeing it in the upcoming patches. Usually I am forced to play in fullscreen windowed mode however this disables any stereoscopic options a user has, which is why I would like to see native resolution support! XDACIDFAN6 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Patch 1.2.2 update crashing [RESOLVED] My updater for patch 1.2.2 is crashing every time it hits 70%. It wont let me update it, tried about 20 times now. Fixed. I just deleted the partially downloaded update and let it redownload from scratch.Crayon0 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Starcraft Updater "finished" at 0%? Ok, so for some reason, when I start up Starcraft II, it goes to the updater for 1.2.2. The top right button says "Finished" and the "Play" button is highlighted, but the progression meter-thing on the top left says "0%". I've waited around for nearly 30 minutes for the 0% go go up, but it doesn't.Whenever I click the "Play" button, the game goes to the loading screen, and then goes back to the updater. I'm not very computer savvy, and don't know why this is happening. Please help ^ ^'' Please and thank you.Spinark1 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Screen Freeze / Game Crash So Ive had SC2 for a while now, pretty much since launch. I have no problem within the game-play, I rarely lag, and I run the game with High Graphic Settings with some Ultra options. However, occasionally, and increasingly often, Ill be playing and the game will Freeze, during this I cant do anything at all, not Alt+Tab, Alt+F4, etc. I usually will have sound for a bit after the screen freezes but if i leave it there it just turns into a blank screen and the sound loops really quickly. Only thing I can do when this happens is power down and reboot. I have tried reinstalling the game, updating drivers for my video card and I'm 100% sure theres no malicious software in my pc. Ive changed the settings a million times hoping it would just be that. This problem is exclusive to SC2, I play CoD MW2, Black Ops, WoW and Ive never had a problem with them. Specs: Windows Vista AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 3 GB Ram 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series Id appreciate any info or ideas anyone can give me, or point me towards the right direction if theres been similar threads and its been resolved, thanks.Legal4 Feb 21, 2011

Feb 21, 2011 In-game music and soundtrack addition I just have a couple of small requests for the designers and patch-makers. Firstly, I was wondering if you could make a user-friendly interface for adding ones' own music onto the soundtrack for in-game music and the jukebox on the Hyperion. For example if I wanted to listen to some Rolling Stones music but don't want to run other programs in the background while playing, that I could place MP3 or MP4 files into a starcraft program file and listen to it in-game. Secondly, if a new song in the jukebox for the upcoming expansion would be something along the lines of Last Kiss by Pearljam. Just thinking that this would make a great teaser scene and keep people guessing if Tychus was alive or not. BlackWolf0 Feb 21, 2011
Feb 21, 2011 Iertutil.DLL issue As of recently, I started receiving errors of an ordinal 120 missing from the dynamic library link iertutil.dll. This is really bothering me because it's preventing me from installing Starcraft 2 and I really want to play it! I tried downloading the dll off of dll-files.com however, when I went to manually install it, the laptop requires permission for the file to be replaced. I typed in the password and a second later the message pops up again saying it needs permission and than only has the options of try again, skip, or cancel. Please help!Boot0 Feb 21, 2011

Feb 20, 2011 SCII Patch 1.2 1hz stuttering issue. Every second, regardless of whether I'm in game, launching, or whatever else, my computer skips a few frames. The audio stops, motion stops, everything. If you're curious about how I found that it's 1hz, it was extremely regular and I thought it was about 1 second between skips, so I set up a metronome at 60 bpm, and the click lined up perfectly with the start of every skip. Comp specs aren't an issue I think, since even after setting it to low, it still does this, even on the loading screen. anyway, they are: Core2 duo 3 ghz 4 gigabytes of ram nvidia 8800GT graphics card can't think of anything else relevant at the moment.TrackStar3 Feb 20, 2011
Feb 20, 2011 Graphics Glitch After Upgrading GPU Hiya! I recently upgraded my GPU from a single Nvidia 8800GT to a 460GTX. It seems to be working out great in all other games but SC2 is not being so cooperative. I'm missing entire effects and textures - for instance during warp-ins I don't see the whole animation and, instead, just see that black hole appear and then get replaced by a given structure. I also don't even see chrono boosts and force fields. The weirdest thing is that uninstalling SC2 and reinstalling it fixed everything until I reformatted the computer, at which point everything returned. Anyone suffer similar issues or know of a fix? Thanks :DArkadu10 Feb 20, 2011
Feb 20, 2011 Hacked, who to talk to? I checked the faq on this, and re-set my passwords and changed the e-mail, but I didn't see how to talk to someone from support so I went to these forums instead. Earlier today I recieved an e-mail that unfortunately went to my junk mail and I didn't notice it until now, which says: Hello, Blizzard Entertainment recently received a request to change the e-mail address used to log in to the Battle.net account with the username dark_saiyan@hotmail.com. The e-mail address f***@hotmail.com has been specified as the new username for this Battle.net account. An email has been sent to this new address containing a verification link to complete the change. Once the new address has been verified, the e-mail address dark_saiyan@hotmail.com can no longer be used to log in to this Battle.net account or any World of Warcraft accounts merged with this Battle.net account. If you did not initiate this request, please click here to contact the Blizzard Billing & Account Services team immediately. Sincerely, The Battle.net Account Team Online Privacy Policy With the title being "New Request Notification - Change Login address." Now, I changed it to my other e-mail before I got another notice saying it had been changed yet. I'm guessing this hacking device must be automatic, and so the user or persons hacking my account must not have changed it before I got there and fixed it by changing it to my other e-mail which is why I am not hiding my e-mail on these forums (I've already changed it to a new one). My point is, the new e-mail it was supposedly being changed to initially before I stopped it was censored out, and blizzard should look into whoever has that e-mail address because they are hacking accounts. Do I talk to someone specific or do I just leave this post here and let the support team take care of it? Not sure what to do.Velasan4 Feb 20, 2011

Feb 20, 2011 Desktop for Ultra settings SC2 Hi, I've been thinking about getting a new computer because my current laptop is reaching the end of its days. Now, I no longer need a laptop and of course, desktops offer better performance. I would like to build a computer that could run SC2 on ultra settings (and wow as well, but if it can run sc2 on ultra, it should be able to run wow on ultra easily, no?). However, I'm new to building so I don't really know what I need.. Does anyone have any builds they can link or offer advice? ThanksZulfarror6 Feb 20, 2011
