torn between the geforce 9800 gt for around 60 bucks or the gts 450 for around 90 (using my gift card :D) is there a big difference? anyone have one or both?
I don't have either, but if your going to spend money you should take a llok at the following chart:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,2935.html

Just pick you price range and look at the different recommendations.

Its a list of the best gaming video cards for your money. The site is not partial to either nvidia or AMD, they just test the cards and pick the best performance for the prices. At this time, the list is AMD heavy since their prices are really good for some rather powerful cards.

Neither. Splurge on the GTX 460. It's only $150 and its WAY better than any of the two you mentioned

this.

ATLEAST something like this

120 after MIR

its really not worth spending the money on either of those GPU's you listed. they are already outdated. It will be much more worthwhile to save up a bit more and get something better.
My super overclocked 9800GT 512MB (yes, really) can run SC2 on EXTREME with around 30+ FPS! I mean like the GPU core to 650, big stuff like that =P. It runs quite cool too :D But you can probably do better with... GTX 460 or 560, but 460 is cheaper... unless your gift card is not enough?
