Patch 1.4.3 Performance Troubleshooting

We've recently released patch 1.4.3, which has addressed a few Mac issues. There still has been some reports of low performance persisting after patching. To help better understand and track the issue, there is a few troubleshooting steps that you can do that may help you restore performance. Below, you will find the troubleshooting steps that may help you resolve this issue.

  • Repairing Permissions
  • Resetting your SMC
  • Repair Disk
  • Check "Reduce Mouse Lag" option
  • Check OS X updates

    a. Repairing Permissions

    Repair Permissions via Disk Utility
      1. Navigate to /Applications/Utilities/ and open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the hard drive the game is installed on.
      3. Select the First Aid option.
      4. Click on the Repair Disk Permissions button.

    Resetting permissions on the Starcraft II folder
      1. Select the Starcraft II folder
      2. Press Command + I
      3. In the Info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions section and click on the lock and unlock it, entering your admin password when prompted.
      4. Make sure you have Read & Write permissions
      5. Click on the Burst icon (cog wheel) and select Apply to enclosed items

    Then run a repair from the repair tool located in /Applications/Starcraft II/Support.
    b. Resetting your SMC

    Resetting the SMC on Macs with removable battery
      1. Shut down the computer.
      2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
      3. Remove the battery.
      4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
      5. Release the power button.
      6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
      7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

    Resetting the SMC on Macs with built-in battery
      1. Shut down the computer.
      2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
      3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
      4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
      5. Press the power button to turn on the computer. Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter does not change states or temporarily turn-off when you reset the SMC.

    Resetting the SMC on Desktop Macs
      1. Shut down the computer.
      2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
      3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
      4. Release the power button.
      5. Attach the computers power cable.
      6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    c. Repair Disk

    Repair Disk via Safe Boot
      1. Be sure your Mac is shut down.
      2. Press the power button.
      3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
      4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress bar (in 10.5, it looks like a spinning gear).
      5. After you get to the User Account Login screen, choose restart to bring up the the Mac in normal mode.
    d. Check "Reduce Mouse Lag" Option

    It's best to check this status of this option, as it has not worked properly for StarCraft 2 for Mac before until this patch. With this enabled, it will lower your FPS, since it's making the mouse movement smoother, for those users who may need it. It may be accidentally checked.

    The Reduce Mouse Lag option is located under Options=>Graphics.
