Technical Support

Oct 4, 2012 Forum Guidelines & Information Welcome to the Technical Support forum for World of Warcraft. This forum exists to provide World of Warcraft customers with a place to discuss technical issues with each other and Blizzard Tech Support staff members. While Blizzard Tech Support staff regularly monitors and replies to this forum (between 7am-8pm Pacific, 7 days a week), it is not meant as a place to resolve complex issues, because of the nature of forums. If you cannot resolve your issue through the forum, we recommend checking our Knowledge Center for resolutions and workarounds for common issues. If you wish to contact our Support team directly, you may do so here: Contact Blizzard Support - You can keep track of all your communication with Customer Support through your Battle.net account. Please keep all posts on topic. This means technical issues, advice, and discussion of technical issues. Bug reports should be directed to the bug report forums. Game discussions, criticism, or commentary should be posted in the appropriate gameplay forums. When requesting assistance with or discussion an issue, please create your own thread unless a topic for the issue already exists. Do not hijack threads with your new topic. Posting an issue which is similar but different from the original topic means that your request may be missed or the original request ignored. Please post a subject with a clear summary of your issue. Starting posts with "I need help!" or "Can't play no matter what" only serves to make your issue harder to resolve. We understand that emotions can run high while dealing with technical issues, but posting in an abusive or disparaging manner will not be tolerated, and does not advance our goal of providing assistance to the widest audience of customers in this forum. Please do not post direct contact info for other companies. It is acceptable to post links to websites where contact info can be found, but posting the information here on the forum is not permitted. To provide feedback on a ticket or customer support response you have received, please utilize the survey system built in-game or on the online ticket. We hope that this forum can continue to be a place where users can find quick resolutions to their issues. To help do this we ask that the forum guidelines be observed at all times when contributing to discussions.Medearn2 Oct 4, 2012

This thread will highlight some troubleshooting steps that have been proven to resolve most of the patching and installation issues that you as a player may encounter. Most of the support articles linked below will include steps for both, Windows and Mac systems. However, if you require further assistance with a Mac Installation or Patching issue that has not been mentioned in this sticky thread, you will want to post in our Mac Technical Support Forum. May 9 Latency and Disconnections Related to Modems with Puma 6 Chipset Yes, it may be your modem. Problems with high latency, frequent disconnections, lost packets, and unusual behavior with your gameplay such as characters running in place and spells not completing, etc. may be the result of the Intel Puma 6 chipset in your modem. Here is a partial list of affected modems: Arris SB6190 Arris TG1672G Arris TG1682G Arris TM1602 TM1602a Super Hub 3 (Arris TG2492LG) (commonly - virgin media) Hitron CGN3 / CDA / CGNV series modems: Hitron CDA-32372 Hitron CDE-32372 Hitron CDA3-35 Hitron CGNV4 Hitron CGNM-3552 (commonly - Rogers) Hitron CGN3 (eg CGN3-ACSMR) 2013 link Hitron CGNM-2250 (commonly - Shaw) Linksys CM3024 Linksys CM3016 TP-Link CR7000 Netgear AC1750 C6300 AC1900 Netgear CM700 Telstra Gateway Max (Netgear AC1900 / C6300) (Australia) 2014 link. I, like many others, thought it was a bug in the program with this last patch. Now, by the process of elimination, it looks like my Arris SB6190 is the source. It works perfectly when replaced by my older Motorola SB6120. My research brought me to the link posted above. My apologies to Blizzard.Dorisse206 May 9
Jan 18 Upcoming API / Hardware Support Changes Hi Friends, We have seen quite a few threads with people upset and confused about the new warnings in the Blizzard app. Warnings that tell you that your system will be unsupported soon. While this is true in some cases, I would like to provide some resources and advice on how to see if you will still be able to play. Here is a list of requirements and resources to help you find out the state of your computer. OS requirements:   Windows - Users will need to be on the following OS builds, with the 64 bit version installed, and able to support DirectX 11. Windows 7 Sp1 Windows 8.1 Windows 10 How to check if you are on a 64 bit OS. 1. Hit Windows key 2. Type “my computer” 3. Right click this PC or the name you gave it 4. Select Properties 5. Look at System type ( You will want 64 bit Operating system listed here ) How to see if your Video card supports DirectX 11. This list is not up to date but if you have a card that is newer than the ones listed, it is likely okay. You can check on the manufacturer's website to be sure.   Mac - Users computers will need to support the Metal API. A list of Mac computers that can support Metal . Users should also be on a supported macOS. macOS 10.12.X macOS 10.13.x *macOS 10.14.x *(macOS may not be released by the time these changes go live )*   Additional information - We have seen cases where having the in game settings changed to DirectX 9 or WoW set to launch in 32 bit mode will cause these errors. To check if World of Warcraft in 32-bit mode from the Blizzard App 1) Open the Blizzard App 2) Select World of Warcraft 3) Click Options 4) Select Game Settings on the left 5) Uncheck Launch 32-bit client (Instead of 64-bit) 6) Click Done How to disable DirectX 9 if you can. 1) Click Red Question mark in game 2) Go to system 3) Go to Advanced 4) Click Drop down by Graphics API 5) Select DirectX 11 6) Restart the game I hope this information helps my friends and hope you have a wonderful time in World of Warcraft. /NathardrickNathardrick0 Jan 18
Oct 28, 2014 Red/Incompatible Realms Unavailable Hi everyone! We have recently released a small patch which may result in players seeing the above error. To ensure that you have picked up these changes, please make sure to launch through the Blizzard Desktop Application (already installed as the World of Warcraft launcher). If your download does not begin automatically, there are a few steps we can take: Check for Downloads manually. With the WoW tab open in the Bilzzard Desktop App, select Options > Check for Updates Restart the Blizzard Application Ensure Agent is closed. Close out the Blizzard Desktop Application Open your Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc Look for Agent.exe and hit End Process if present. If using Win10 you need to look under the "Details" tab. Reopen the Blizzard Desktop Application and allow it to update Run the Scan and Repair tool. Open your Config.wtf file (located in the WTF folder) and make sure your 'SET portal' line has "US" listed. If the issue continues or does not download, please create a new topic with the attempted steps and we'll attempt to assist! To confirm if you have the most recent game build (which realms will show available), you should see Version 7.3.5.26365 in-game during the login process.Glaxigrav0 Oct 28, 2014
4m Insane Latency Been having this for a few weeks goes from 50 (expected) to sometimes 100+-1500+. At times restarting Battle Net and WoW will drop this down for about 10 minutes but as soon as I go to do something it jumps back up and there are times where this does nothing. Created fire wall exceptions (even turned firewall off to test) as well as power cycling modem and router and connecting through wire. Confirmed drivers are up to date as well as Windows is up to date. No dice still. 24m Disconnect 51900319 Hi, I consistantly keep getting disconnected approximately every hour while playing wow. 55m Issue Logging in I'm having a bit of trouble logging into the Battle.net game client. When I approve my login with my mobile authentication, it goes to this state where it looks like the loading symbol is skipping frames or and is stuck. And it stays like this for a minute until it just boots me back into the log in. Is there an issue with my Authentication? I was able to get onto the forums so maybe not. Is this happening to anyone? Or is there an issue with my game client?Nellan21 55m

2h Odd, GPU demand drops <40% in SW So I recently did a fresh install of Windows 10 (1803 version) on a SSD. Reinstalled Wow too. My PC is as fallows. CPU : Ryzen 5 1600 OC'd to 3.90 Ghz. GPU : GTX 1060 6 GB (latest driver version) RAM: 16 GB ram @ 3060 Mhz So the game/system is running perfectly fine but for one odd thing. When I'm playing wow, and in a dungeon, flying around or even just standing in most areas my GPU is @ 50-70% demand or.. "power" as HWMonitor says and sits @ the 1949 Mhz clock speed. BUT if I go to Stormwind main bank/autionhouse area. The demand drops to the mid 30's and up to 40, which lowers the clock from 1949 Mhz to any where beween 1300-1800 Mhz. If I turn and walk into the bank across from the Auction House, it goes right back up to 60-70% power and clocks go back to 1949 Mhz. Does this make since to anyone? I do have my power plan set to Performance and Game Bar is turned off. I assume it has something to do with the new driver and/or the new version of windows 10. It's basically down clocking my GPU when the demand drops. Here is HWMonitor when I'm standing away from the main bank/fountain in SW. https://postimg.cc/image/dce6qmt5j/ Here is HWMonitor when I'm standing @ or around the fountain. https://postimg.cc/image/whhg0hn9z/Thorketill0 2h
4h Feathermoon zone transfer/disconnects This is happening again to folks, and it's affecting Dalaran (Legion zone) as well. Transfers between zones aren't working, I can't port to Stormwind via the Dal portal, and disconnects are happening. This was affecting the Stormheim zone a couple of days ago. Looks like server instability again.Arbelac1 4h
4h WoW wont render(?) I need a bit of advice, well really I just need to know I'm not until July, anyways. On my Windows 10 desktop the graphics for WoW aren't appearing, like nothing renders. Just the low-poly ground textures. I downloaded all the recent updates (for WoW and Windows), but NOTHING except the UI. Please give me advice or just tell me if I'm on a drought till my birthday in July. 10h Increase in lag secondary to spell effects? Hi all, I'll preface this by saying I'm a little computer savvy but not very smart when it comes to anything more than the basics! So I've poked around on my computer, which I've built, and the NVIDIA panel "recommended" some WoW settings. Since then, I've had more lag only really with spell effects. For example, one time I've noticed it is here: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=81933/sol-shaper-veoryx#abilities (S)he casts some sort of yellow "puddle" spell that sparks and it caused a huge drop in FPS. For reference, my specs are: Intel i6700K @ 4GHZ 16GB RAM GeForce GTX 970 If it's helpful, I can go through each individual setting in the game and list them here. I will say that before this, I did not have as much lag with spell effects at all - however, I think I was very conservative with the effects I was enabling (for example, I never turned on anti-aliasing but now it's on). Usually view distance and ground detail were the only ones I played with. TEXTURES: Text res - High TExt filt - 16x aniso Proj text - Enabled ENVIRON: 10/10/10 EFFECTS: Shadow - high Liquid - ultra Sunshafts - high Particle - high SSAO - high Depth - high Lighting - high Outline - high Anti-alias: MSAA 2x Fullscreen, 1920x1080, Refresh 144 Thanks all!Erandia3 10h
12h Character Stutter Issue with Keyboard WASD? Since yesterday or the day before, after receiving a server authentication error, I have been having an issue where my character will stutter when running. It happens almost immediately when I move with the WASD keys, the character will stop and start over and over again while i'm holing forward. This doesn't happen when I use RMB+LMB to move. I reset the UI like 3 times and disabled all of my addons to no avail. I've heard of this issue but in reverse, where it's the mouse movement that causes the stutter and the keyboard is fine. My keyboard is less than a year old and works completely fine with other games. I really don't want to have to get a new keyboard just for wow... Has anyone had a similar issues and been able to find a fix/work-around? Any help would be much appreciated!Kaiboshh1 12h

16h Unable to start up 3D acceleration. A couple weeks ago somebody posted a solution for this (it worked for me) pointing to modify some parameters in a text file, unfortunately I didn't save the post and I can't find it anymore among dozens of posts with the same issue. Please if you have that solution post it here, my Windows 10 broke WoW again. Thank you.Ðaisy10 16h
18h Nvidia Control Panel - Recommended settings? I'm been giving World of Warcaft a try on Windows 7 (I own a MacBook Pro Retina, usually run WoW on OS X but wanted to take advantage of DirectX 11). I am looking for suggestions to get the max benefit from my hardware (2.6Ghz i7, 8GB Ram, 512GB Flash storage, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory). I notice on the Windows side the NVIDIA drivers give the user a lot of different options to optimize the game. Are there any settings there I should be overriding? Right now I have it set to "Let the 3D application decide" rather than "Use the advanced 3D image settings," because I do not understand most of the options there. Are there any best practices I should be applying? I've done Google and forum searches for "NVIDIA Control Panel World of Warcraft" but most of the hits I get seem either out of date or don't address the issue directly. Right now I pushed the graphics setting to Ultra then disabled SSAO, set Shadow Quality to High, set Liquid Detail to Good, set Ground Clutter to High, set View Distance to High and set Texture Resolution to Good. At 2880x1800 resolution, these settings give me between 33-35fps consistently (I set max fps to 35 to prevent overheating). But if I can improve on this, I would love it. Any advice is appreciated.Thijs8 18h

21h Mega loading screens and invisible walls. I've had unbelievably long loading screens for a while now, as well as flying into invisible walls while out in the world, and nothing I have seen in the forums or that I have Googled has fixed it. The seemingly infinite wait times on loading screens (if I make it through them without disconnecting) and the inability to travel at a decent speed has me waiting for nearly as much as my actual playing on some evenings. I have tried several fixes, including the repair tool in the launcher, deleting the cache, the WTF folder, trying to run WoW with no add-ons, defragging the hard drive, and even a complete uninstall and reinstall of WoW. No other games or any other sorts of programs on my computer are experiencing any issues right now. WoW has run smoothly on this computer for the two years that I've had it, and only lately am I experiencing any issues. New, custom-built computers don't typically die of old age in two years, do they? I never did take the opportunity to educate myself in computer hardware, so I don't know, but I don't think they should. I really hope to get this resolved soon, because it's frustrating to the point that I don't want to keep my sub active anymore, which would suck, because I want to stay here with my friends. Please help!Fizbanz15 21h
22h Computer restarts itself while playing! It happened three times today and I almost don't want to bother playing at all. It started happening after recent updates and it's getting worse. The past two times happened at the Darkmoon Faire during the Firebird challenge. Crashes are one thing. This is too much.Syradondinna18 22h
22h Lots of lag spikes with latency sticking at around 25 ms So I created a new character today and have had some weird lag issues that occur seemingly at random for various periods of time. Everything will be responding okay and then I'll talk to a quest NPC, or cast a spell, and nothing will happen. The game basically acts as if I've been disconnected, then after 5-20 seconds it starts back up. Sometimes it happens once every 10 minutes for a second or so, other times it happens for 20 seconds or more several times in a row with short periods of relief in between. Every time this happens, I check my latency and it's always at 25-29ms, so the game never actually registers any kind of actual increase in latency. I've tried everything from disabling add-ons completely, to only loading select add-ons, testing for packet loss, resetting my router, etc. Can't seem to find a fix. Has anyone else experienced an issue similar to this? Also, I'm not experiencing issues with any other services at home, so I'm 99% sure it isn't my internet or equipment. Update Edit: So it seems the problem was related entirely to the Worgen starting area. I wasn't the only person who had issues with lag in the starting zone. Now that I've left, the issues have been resolved. Will submit a bug report, but I'm guessing they already know about it.Mekrob1 22h
23h Game stops responding almost every loading screen That's it. The game stops responding everytime I get a loading screen. It simple stops loading stuff and freezes there indefinitely. Been having this for like 3 days. Already scanned and repaired, disabled addons, SO and graphic drivers updated, deleted cache folder (a zillion times), no anti virus, no geforce experience. Nothing. It just started from nothing. Found an interesting stuff on Logs/Client.log. 23h Exiting Game When exiting the game there will be a pause and then an image prior location is displayed. Sometimes it goes away in 5-10 seconds, but other times I have to restart my computer because there is no way to get rid of it. Like the game is not "gracefully" exiting. Windows 10 64bit.Bgored0 23h
1d Logging in to WoW causes computer to restart. This started last Friday. My husband logged in to WoW for the first time in about 8 months (he played the beginning of Legion up to the release of Nighthold LFR) and was having terrible framerates. He updated his drivers and came back ingame. After playing not very long his computer just - shut. off. No warning, no BSoD, just rebooted. So, he waited for the restart and came back ingame. Happened again. And again. Long story short, we are sitting here now with a brand new computer - he replaced everything but the vid card - with a new Windows 10 OS installed and a new clean installation of WoW. And he can't even get ingame! Computer reboots from the character logging into game screen, which is what was happening last week when he decided to rebuild the comp. He's gone to get a new vid card now, but I'm looking for ideas, feedback, any kind of help! The support articles all detail things we've done/tried already.Ztormcloud5 1d
1d No Character Screen I start up the game and hit play. The next screen should be the character screen. I don't get that. The screen comes up white and doesn't load the characters. ??Irieatris1 1d
1d Server Problems? Trying to get logged in....user name, password, authenticator all working (because I can log in to account on line). When I try from the battlenet shortcut or the wow shortcut on my desktop, I get everything in, and approve the authenticator, but it never loads into the game...is there a problem with the servers?Olavail6 1d
1d Random High Latency Hello, I have noticed recently that i randomly get high latency. I can't seem to figure out when it'll happen - it'll just randomly spike from 40 to around 1k and will stay around there for around an hour before dropping back down. Was wondering if anyone knows what may be the issue? Thanks! ... ...Topples2 1d
1d Transfer Aborted loop but only in W/E Plaguelands I was trying to get to a guild event in Eastern Plaguelands, but my character got trapped in an Transfer Aborted: instance not found loop upon trying to leave the paladin hall, and then got stuck in a world server down loop so I can't log back in to her (but that's easier to fix with a GM help to port her elsewhere). Trying it on a second character approaching from a different zone gets the same problem, but fortunately I've been able to hearth them away before getting trapped entirely. This is the second time this week I've had the problem getting to old world zones around Lordaeron, but it only seems to be bugging that for Arathi, WPL, and EPL. I've already reset my UI, which is what the GM said to do when I had the issue on Tuesday, and I'm confident it's not an issue with my Internet connection, given I'm not having the issue with Legion zones at all over the last few days, and I was just able to fly across Elwynn and Duskwood without issue, but going up to Arathi or WPL gets me that bug. Help please. :(Naiea1 1d

1d Bag/quests/professions VERY slow to open Its been happening often lately but today its been particularly bad. Trying to do things like opens maps, quests, bags, professions, etc -- it takes forever for the graphics to appear and sometimes I have to close and open the things repeatedly to get them to work. My latency is good, my ms is good, I have no other programs open, yet it keeps happening. Any ideas?Hearne4 1d

1d Wow keeps freezing and crashing. So for the past few months wow has been freezing and crashing on me. By freezing I mean it freezes for a good few minutes then unfreezes, that's half the time, other half it freezes and then it crashes completely. Ive reinstalled wow, Ive repaired wow, I just got my computer checked up on and had some virus's removed and all my drivers updated, new anti virus installed. This is the main reason I stopped playing wow since, well I cant play wow. Once I had my drivers updated, it crashes a lot more frequently now which is ridiculous. I could use some help pin pointing this out and figuring out a solution pls.Blackfreid4 1d
1d [Stormheim zone] Sudden huge bursts of lag/random disconnects I can't remember the last time I've ever had latency or lag. I installed a SSD last night and moved WoW over to it but it worked fine. This morning/afternoon I've been getting sudden huge bursts of lag where everything stops responding then being dropped to the login screen. On one character I got DC'ed from everytime I tried logging back into them I was immediately kicked back out to the login screen (not character select) but was able to login and play other characters but I am still experiencing the same issues. Edit: Forgot to mention the disconnects/sudden bursts of lag seem to be especially common while taking a flight path. Upon getting to my destination I can't get off the bird and simply remain stuck in place on the ground waiting to disembark. Edit2: Maybe it is related to Stormheim specifically on Cenarion Circle/Sisters of Elune? Just realized the problems happened on both characters I was playing there and now I'm getting some "transfer aborted: instance not found" when trying to move around the zone.Deadeye32 1d

1d Game launch but no display, only sound I am having an issue since last month. I changed my pc, installed WoW and played at ULTRA without any lag or FPS issue. One random day on a random launch, the screen would show no image (not black screen). It would just show what i was working on but WOW was playing in the background unable to be seen. Suddenly after a couple of PC reboots, it started working again. Yesterday the same happened and now I currently experiencing the same thing. I have rebooted, reset game settings, reinstalled, deleted the WTF folder, updated my drivers, Direct X, etc. As today, everytime I launch my screen freezes with whatever i was working on and the WOW cursor (hand) moves around my screen without any WOW graphics showing, only the sound of the login screen is playing in the background. If I alt+tab, I can change and keep working normally. If I alt+tab to WOW, the screen keeps showing my work but with the WOW cursor (hand). Any ideas? 1d Constant lock ups and crashes Game keeps crashing since Tuesday 15th of May. It has become unbearable. PvP and most dungeons I can't play in. This game ran perfectly before then, with graphics on 5. Now I can't even run it on 1 without the game locking up. I have followed all the tech stuff (remove addons, turn folders to (old) etc. I have heard from quite a few other people who also now have this issue, starting on the same date as mine.Grandbeard0 1d
