Mac Technical Support

Apr 4, 2012 multiple players, same house, same wireless Not sure this is a WoW problem or a network problem, but it only happens with WoW and not with other online games, and only when the Mac tries to log in, so this is why I'm posting here. This started with the shattering events, and we have tried a few things to solve it with no luck. We tried changing MTU on the modem, tried adding WoW to the modem firewall rules, but nothing else. Computers: - MacBook Pro 19" (latest OS patches applied, maxed out on RAM) - Home Built PC (Win 7 Home Premium, latest patches applied, 4GB RAM, AMD 3000+) - CyberPower PC (Win 7 Home Premium, latest patches applied, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i7) ISP: AT&T Network: 2Wire wireless DSL modem, pretty much default settings, except added WoW to firewall rules in an attempt to solve this problem. MTU was changed, but changed back to default when that didn't help. Realms: Cyberpower PC: Mal'Ganis Homebuilt PC: Mal'Ganis and Khadgar MacBook Pro: Mal'Ganis and Khadgar Here's what happens ... Scenario 1) Home Built PC logs into WoW fine. CyberPower PC logs in next, now 2 players logged in. MacBook Pro attempts to log in, it acts like things are going well, gets to character screen, chooses character to use, tries to start, then everyone is kicked off. Scenario 2) One PC logs in, Mac tries to log in, PC gets kicked off. Second PC watches youtube videos or something, no problem experienced. Scenario 3) MacBook logs in fine by itself, plays, has fun, other 2 people watch youtube videos or go on Steam. All three can log into Steam and play games together just fine ... it's only when all 3 try to play WoW together when things go wrong. Cata is coming up soon. All three of us are going to be leveling like crazy people ... IF we can get this solved. Any ideas?Padreviejo13 Apr 4, 2012

Apr 4, 2012 Friend is having log in issues. She's having difficulties logging in to WoW. She says she logs in her character, and when the load bar is full to enter the game, she crashes or has an internal wow error pop up. She'd post the question herself, but apparently logs out when she tries to get to the forums, and can't log in the forums page (very specifically the forums page, says it works fine on other pages).Carni6 Apr 4, 2012

Apr 3, 2012 2011 MBP + 30" Cinema Display Frame Skipping Hello- I'm having this issue only when I'm connected to my 30" Cinema Display via the cable apple sells (not third party). It's completely intermittent and I can't seem to figure out why it would be happening. Essentially what happens is the frames will skip every about 2 or 3 seconds. It's as if the frame rate drops from an average of 45 FPS to 3 FPS (for literally just a second) then it snaps out. I've been monitoring the frame rate, and it stays steady and does not show any representation for these sudden spikes. Sometimes I can get lucky and this will not happen the entire time I am on WoW, but generally it happens a few minutes after I've started the application. If I exit out completely and start the application again, sometimes it is cleared and the issue isn't there. It seems that iTunes can trigger the issue also. I've tried playing music, then returning back to WoW, and the frame issue begins. If I pause music or even exit iTunes, the frame issue is still there until I've completely closed and reopened the program. Then I'm at the mercy of simply waiting until it begins. Then again, it triggers by itself as well. A little technical info of how I'm running my video settings: I'm running this in native resolution in windowed mode, so the window takes up the same amount of space it would have without the monitor connected. It seems the bigger I make the window, the worse it runs, so I've given up trying to even remotely run it at the Cinema Display's resolution, and have resorted to just running it in a small window. I generally turn down settings when I'm playing on my cinema display, and as a result am running far below the recommended settings (usually by at least half). This issue is completely unaffected by reducing the settings as well. If it starts, it's there until I completely close and relaunch the application. I'm using an external sound card that is connected via Firewire while the Cinema Display is being used. (not sure if that may have something to do with it?) I used to run this same setup on my old Mac Pro which I no longer own, and it would play WoW flawlessly, and in full screen mode with music playing in the background. My laptop specs: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 2011 MBP 8GB Ram Running AMD Radeon 6750M Running smcFanControl at highest RPM, averaging around 75C while the application is running. I hope I was specific enough. If anyone has any advice or experience using a 30" cinema with the MBP, I'd greatly appreciate it. Please let me know if I can clarify anything. Apr 3, 2012 Buying a new Mac: iMac 21 or 27 Hey Mac Tech support folks. I'm buying a new iMac and I'm debating between a 21.5 inch Quad core i5 with the Radeon HD 6770M or a 27 inch quad i5 with the ATI Radeon HD 5750. I am leaning towards the 27 inch but my concern is the video. Does anyone have the 27 inch unit and how well does that video card push video full screen? What kind of FPS are you getting and what settings do you use? I have the 17" MBP with the 330m and using the 64 bit client I get around 60 FPS in heavy areas like Org and Stormwind.Thormek10 Apr 3, 2012

Apr 2, 2012 Swapping Control and Command I don't think there are many Mac users who need this functionality. Seems rather unnecessary to me. Just causes other Command key function problems. This is a case of going to far and trying to correct a problem that didn't exist. In the MOP beta the Command+Click for a right click has been removed because of this unnecessary swapping of Command and Control. MacBook Pro users who Wow without a mouse are at a loss due to the removal of Command+Click on their laptops. We don't need it. Keep things as they were please. Remove Command & Control swapping.Asukazil2 Apr 2, 2012
Apr 2, 2012 Install on External HD Hey, I have a ancient Macbook (circa 2006) running Tiger with a tiny HD so i'm forced to use an iOmega HDD. I'm re-downloading WoW, but I think the launcher assumes that I want to install to the internal HD which fluctuates between "Zero KB available" to around ~20 mb of space, so obviously I need to redirect the installer (which was downloaded to the external HD) to write onto the external HD. How do i do this? ThanksSubjugate2 Apr 2, 2012
Apr 1, 2012 Problems with Previewing Gear (MacOSX) So before the option to use the command key in place of the control key on a Mac was avaliable, previewing gear on your character (by control clicking) worked fine. After enabling this option, the command key works fine for most bindings where control would be used, except previewing gear on my character. I can't seem seem to figure out why. Apr 1, 2012 Cyclical poor frame-rate fluctuation I'm really desperate for help here since playing is next to impossible now. The problem started today. Nothing unusual has happened, no patch, no update. Just spontaneously started today. My frame-rate is cyclical. It goes up and down every 1 second (maybe 1.5 seconds?) by a large margin. In a place where I'd normally get 60 FPS, I'm now going back and forth every second from 25-45 FPS. Up and down, back and forth. When my toon walks, it looks like its lurching forward with a limp. The problem does not always occur immediately after login, it sometimes takes 1 or 2 min to start happening. I've nuked my WTF folder. I've disabled all addons. I've used the repair tool for WoW. Nothing has worked.I'm on Mac OS 10.7.3. MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB EDIT: I failed at spelling.EDIT 2: To clarify something, I don't think the dips in frame rates are actually only going to 25, they feel like they're going much, much lower (enough to cause everything to lurch), but the FPS display appears to be an average based over a short period of time so the low FPS number I see is doubtless an underestimation (a brief but very low number being averaged in with some semi-low numbers).Varia11 Apr 1, 2012
Apr 1, 2012 World of Warcraft Website auto-logs out. I've had this problem for over a month now and only recently got it temporarily fixed long enough for me to post about it here. I need a permanent solution. Every time I log in to the us.battle.net/wow/en site I can shift to one different page or rarely, two and get logged out instantly. It's preventing me from posting and managing my character. I already opened a ticket and after a week got a solution which was to reset Safari which I had done before to no avail, this time though it worked long enough to get a couple of posts out before failing to stay on. I can't keep resetting all of Safari's settings every time I want to post as I have other bookmarked pages I visit regularly. Current system specs while running the latest Safari, everything is updated. Apr 1, 2012 Razer Naga -- Modifier keys work yet? I've just been wondering if the fix was ever found/made for this issue. Incase you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the problem where when binding an ability to say, shift+1, on your keyboard if you press shift+1, it works fine, but if you press Shift+1 on your Naga, the Naga will only detect you hitting 1. Thanks guys!Peekochu3 Apr 1, 2012

I have read the guide on the settings and have them set low and it records fine, but when I play back the video looks like it's having a seizure. Any idea how to fix this or what I am doing wrong? Apr 1, 2012 Issues crashing, program freezing I installed WoW on a Macbook pro using 10.6.8, and I continue to have a strange issue. The game plays fine for a few minutes, then freezes after a little bit of play time. It remains frozen until force quit, and doesn't bring up an error report. I've already deleted the cache files and tried the blizzard repair tool. Thoughts? Suggestions?Grannus1 Apr 1, 2012

Mar 31, 2012 toss old mac.. or get new video card i have an older mac. macpro 1,1 dual 3G. After returning to the game recently... i have been having some fps issues, Stutters.. lag.. graphical issues. When i left the game a couple years ago I didn't have this. I figure that the graphic intensity has gone up. Soooo...i thought i might update my graphics card vs buying a whole new rig. But i am on the fence. It is an expensive question. So i am hoping i can buy either a ATI radeon 5780 or the 5770 to see a performance improvement. My current card... is around 512mb. [i don't recall the name of it - i am at work and can't check at the moment radeon 4870?]]. I searched the threads here for an answer..but there is some contradictions. Someone stated that the 2006 models are doomed no matter what card you put in.. since the computer itself can't keep up those cards. Can someone clarify? do you think it would be a good option? simply do you think putting a new ATI video card in a macpro will save it? And if so which card? =D thanks for the help! honestly confused on what to do.Offwhite16 Mar 31, 2012
Mar 31, 2012 cant download PTR client. i have tried 2 or 3 times to download the PTR client and every time i get this message "The folder "/Applications/Cache.temp" could not be created. (ConflictManager::CreateObjects)" I'm playing on a Mac but not 100% sure off what year it is since it is not mine. Would anyone be able to help a little? or give me some advice on what i should do.Fireshaman1 Mar 31, 2012

Mar 30, 2012 WoW keeps Redownloading Hi, I have recently installed WoW, and it was installing the last of the non-critical updates so i decided to play anyways I went to play just awhile ago and it said it had 1.5gb to download when earlier it had said it was done. Anyways I finished the download again and turned my comp off for awhile and then went to play and it said it had 4.5gb to download again. So my question is what the heck do I do? Sorry if my question is kind of confusing. I posted this in the other Forum thread to because i wasn't sure which to post in I am running on a Macbook pro.Brenaldo1 Mar 30, 2012
Mar 30, 2012 Disconnect & Authenticator Issues I should note that these are two distinct issues: 1) Periodically in game I will disconnect. For some reason, it tends to happen when my character is up against a wall of some sort (or a rock/mountain) and I turn the camera sharply. I will suddenly disconnect. I can then immediately log back in and it's not that big of a deal, it's just getting annoying. It's not really something that I can avoid either, because occasionally my character will be that situation. What could be wrong? 2) I thought that Authenticator entry was only required about once every week/couple weeks now. I checked the setting and it is NOT set to require it upon every login. However, I find that I am at least required to enter it at least once per day if not more. Why is this occurring? Thanks for the helpValoren9 Mar 30, 2012
Mar 30, 2012 Graphics Good Enough? I'm getting a new macbook pro 13" on saturday morning (my first mac) and I wanted to make sure it can run WoW on at least normal graphics. http://www.apple.com/why-mac/compare/notebooks.html It's the 13" that lists "Intel HD Graphics 3000" under performance.Shagun4 Mar 30, 2012
Mar 29, 2012 Weird Lag issues Since the last maintenance day I've been having weird lag issues. Even when my latency is quite good the game will lag... the weird part is that it will lag till I do something like jump or another movement related action. During dungeons it's only mildly annoying, but it's also stopping me from using my professions since movement will cancel whatever I was creating. Mar 29, 2012 Beta-Opt in not seeing GPU Hey there, Running a 2011 27" iMac with a Radeon 6970M (2GB VRAM) and did an update to my beta profile as I am now running a developer beta of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Now that I have done so, only the integrated Intel graphics are listed on my profile. Mar 29, 2012 Looking to Upgrade my MacbookPro... HELP!!! So I'm looking to upgrade my macbookpro to better my game performance. Problem being I know only a marginal amount about computers in general, I could and know how to change out RAM for instance, but know almost nothing when it comes to graphics cards or what will give me real results when playing games. As it is I play WoW towards the lower end of the graphics settings and seems to run fine but a game like Starcraft 2 chugs a bit even at the lowest setting. I would greatly appreciate any help that someone would be able to offer to enlighten me so I can keep on keepin on!!! Here's my current specs: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Geez I really need help seeing as I am guessing that this is all the pertinent information one would need to diagnose my hardware issues.... Thanks again!!Quinnthalas2 Mar 29, 2012
Mar 29, 2012 Just asking a question I know that you guys have to roll the beta out in waves. I get that its cool, I just wanted to see if it was possible to gain access to the beta after easter. i am off from work for a week and would have dedicated time to test / provide feedback. Over the years i have been a beta tester for all of the wow beta's and i unlike a large many of other people actually test the game and provide feedback via the in game blizzard feedback tool. I also have a Mac and a PC not to mention i work IT for a school that gives me access to multiple different machines that i can test on. So if the mac devs would be so kind that would be cool. I have purchased the 1 year guaranteed access to the beta thing. So i know i will get it at some point if i cant get it that week no biggie. Guess ill go learn to ride a motorcycle. Thanks again I know i might get flamed and people yelling just wait for your time but i figured if any of the mac devs saw this they might be kind.Korbendallas1 Mar 29, 2012
Mar 29, 2012 Game crashing after patching 03/27/2012 My game has been fine all day til now. It freezes after login & load so I have had to restart my computer manually. There hasn't been an error report due to the fact. I can play in "alt-tabbed" mode but I lag a lot more and it seems aggravatingly unplayable. I gave it a minute to resume but it just kept playing the music in the background. I couldn't hear new characters running about and previous sound effects had faded out so I know it wasn't just a visual freeze. No other programs were running.
