He came up with a setup, I wanted to get some opinions on it. 2TB hybrid harddrive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197 4th gen i5, unlocked: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899 DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151266 Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131996 EVGA's GeForce 660: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130825 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173 Any comments good or bad about the parts? Another friend of mine said he doesn't like Seagate for a hard drive, so I'm especially interested in opinions or alternatives on that, but if you think Seagate is good I would like to know. I'm also curious what you think this, as a whole, would be capable of playing? Anything it would definitely not be able to play? I want it as an alternative to buying one of the upcoming gaming consoles, basically... wanted to get in to PC gaming instead. So... any thoughts you guys could share, I'd appreciate!Arthrin21 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 Building First PC - Need Advice Hey all, first time posting here. I currently play on a Macbook Pro and while for most of the game it is OK, during about 1/3 of raid fights I end up getting about 3-5 FPS, making the game unplayable, even when all graphics are set on their lowest setting possible. I was looking to build a machine that would be able to run 25 man raids smoothly on medium-ultra graphics. I already have a mouse, keyboard, and 1680x1050 resolution monitor, so I am not looking to purchase anything new there. I'm looking to spend around $400-500 for a decent machine. I would only embarrass myself if I posted some ideas for parts as I don't know if they are compatible or not. Can anyone recommend parts with these specs that will fit together? Intel i5 CPU, maybe around 3.1Ghz or 3.3Ghz Decent Radeon video card Motherboard Power Supply 1TB Hard Drive A decent case (don't really care too much about looks) 8GB RAM (if that's enough) Will an additional fan be necessary as well? I'm also planning on putting a DVD drive in there and getting a wireless adapter. Is all of this possible for around $400-$500? Please let me know if you need any additional info. and thank you for any help! :-)Shimmy11 Sep 9, 2013

Sep 9, 2013 Question about upgrading cpu If I upgrade my CPU from an I5 2500k, to a 3770k, do I have to reinstall windows? I'm worried about it, since I don't want to lose everything I have now.Corave2 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 Looking to upgrade my Desktop I built my desktop a year or two ago and it's been great. /however, I've started loading up my Skyrim with a LOT of add-ons and it's having a little bit of stutter. It still loads fine and there's not a lot of lag, but there are times where it will lag out for a second and then snap back which is kind of annoying. So now the question is what should I upgrade to make this better? I have 496 GB free on my harddrive still so if I need to download something that isn't a problem. Here are my specs: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz RAM: 8.00 GB OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Operating System So what should I do to make this better?Rufyn5 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 tablet for wow?? Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" and I want to know if it is possible to play WoW on it. Even for simple questing. Or even if any other tablets can play WoW. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!Thexfactor3 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 Computer crashs Just about everyday, i would turn on the computer in the morning and even if i don't touch it at all, it will freeze on a black screen or a blue screen. Then i would hard turn it off, turn it back on and it would last me all day, until the next one. This is getting annoying, i thought about overheating but it's cold and the casing is open. I thought about video drivers which were identified once but i just don't do anything on it... I can't fix this one on my own and i don't wanna get this machine to the shop. Because it's heavy and i'm on foot. Any thoughts?Addna6 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 Computer advice Hi all wanted to ask general advice for planning to buy a computer in the very near future. Have an Acer right now and it has lasted pretty well these last few years except for the cooling system failing kind of bad(use external fan) but otherwise it did pretty well. Going to have something like 1,200 dollars to spend it(don't need a new screen since mine is 21 inch, HD, plays highest resolution but my computer couldn't handle that much) just replacing the tower, keyboard, mouse and so forth. Something that has a good cooling system too. I don't plan to overclock since I don't even know how that works. Wanted to have something that could play games very, very well with high graphics, high fps and the whole deal. Sorry if that doesn't make much sense. Should I wait for Black Friday or the holidays in general for a good sale? While my budge is going to be around 1,200 I can definitely spend more if it ends up being worth it. Practically want something that will last me 3 years at least but is good enough to play games well 3 years from now too. Thanks for all the advice in advance.Marathel17 Sep 9, 2013
Sep 9, 2013 Broadwell LGA 1150 wont be Haswell Compatible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe0FhacqEj0&feature=c4-overview&list=UUXuqSBlHAE6Xw-yeJA0Tunw At about 54 minutes in Tom Logan got wind from Asus and other motherboard manufacturers that the VRM controller on the CPU die is causing such a wide spread heat problem even at stock that they are moving it back onto the motherboard. So Broadwell and Haswell won't be compatible with each other despite the same socket.Stephí0 Sep 9, 2013

Sep 8, 2013 Just had a TERA: Rising player tell me WoW... Is trash. Lol....Really? I mean I've played TERA.... I have 2 avatars in TERA... And this guy is telling me WoW is casual trash? excuse me for the vent but where the hell do these people get off outright bashing and downplaying games like wow? Their own insecurities? I don't get it. really pissed me off, because all he did was insult me for being a casual and "only like shiney things" blah blah... As if. TERA was horribly optimized, has no end game, was a Korean knock off of WoW with skillshots and claimed it was the first "REAL ACTION MMORPG" when Vindictus, one of the first actual action mmorpgs came out over a year before it. Really? How do these people live with themselves?Franbunny31 Sep 8, 2013

Sep 8, 2013 Looking for a new inexpensive gaming computer Hey guys! I'm not too techy, but I love to play WoW and I raid very frequently. I have a desktop at my house, but pretty soon here I'm going up to college and I would really like to have a solid laptop to continue raiding on. I can look for them myself, but I'm very interested to see what you guys have to recommend! Budget wise, I'm looking for under $600. It doesn't have to perform spectacular, just enough to run the game on low settings, and have a decent size monitor (17 inches or bigger would be AWESOME). Very excited to see what you guys have to say!Nicé2 Sep 8, 2013
Sep 8, 2013 So DVD players This is something that's been annoying me for awhile, companies that put several pages of adds at the beginning of their dvd and then disable the go to main menu button. It's just irritating and it's more irritating dvd manufactures allow it.Ziryus2 Sep 8, 2013
Sep 8, 2013 Conundrum So last night I got my ESO beta invite... two hours after getting my Hearthstone beta invite. And I'm desperately trying to level a final character to 90 to get the Barrens title before 5.4 drops. I've been toggling between Hearthstone and WoW while ESO installs, but at some point I really need to just commit to doing one for a few days. But which? Which!? Oh, cruel fortune!Roahin3 Sep 8, 2013

Sep 7, 2013 Should I get GW2? No, I don't want to start a GW2 vs WoW thread. So I have some leftover birthday money from a month ago, and I was wondering if I should give GW2 a shot. I heard good things about it when it released, but lately (as in for the past 6 or so months) I haven't heard anything, good or bad. If I recall, a problem GW2 had is a problem that plagues most MMOs that aren't WoW: it had no endgame. Anyone know if they remedied that problem? How's the pvp now? Apparently the leveling is amazing or something in that game, so I doubt that got changed. Short story shorter: Would you say that GW2 is worth $50? Edit: I should also say that I don't expect the game to replace WoW either. From what I've read/seen, the games have very different focuses (foci?). It's not like I'm asking, "Should I dump WoW to play GW2?"Blueragebar14 Sep 7, 2013

Sep 6, 2013 Gaming Keyboards Hey guys, I've been thinking about getting a gaming keyboard for a day or two now so I'd like some help on this issue. I would mostly use it for pvp and I already use a naga for a mouse. Most of the comments from past forum threads seemed to suggest anything but a razer keyboard. So, with this.. what would be a good option to go with ?Hamim6 Sep 6, 2013

Sep 6, 2013 Processor upgrade or no? Hey guys recently it seems that when i play games such as wow I have to turn my settings lower than when i made my PC which i suppose could be normal as my parts get older. However i feel that it is possibly my CPU that is holding me back. My current specs are i3-2120, HD radeon 6870, B75 Mobo, 500w PSU, and 8 GB ram I originally was going to get an i5-3570, however that was before Haswell processors were released, and on a post i had a while back on mmochamp, someone suggested i wait and buy a new Mobo, and a i5-4570k?(or maybe 4670k i don't remember) and a heat sink and try overclocking to about 4ghz( i have never overclocked before either) if i were to go with that option would i see a huge increase in performance because it will cost $300-$400 which is a lot to spend if it will not be worth my wild. Are there any other options that are better ?Beachumx25 Sep 6, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 What exactly is Steam? I read about it on the WoW forums quite a few times and went to the website myself, it looks like a cool site but I'm curious about why it seems to be so popular. For instance, there a quite a few games on Amazon that seem to come at a much cheaper price than on Steam. I guess I'm wondering what does steam offer and what are the benefits of using it? ThanksFootballfan46 Sep 5, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 For those wanting to dive into FFXIV Out of respect to current WoW players, I opted to give a more personalized welcome. If you find yourself interested in trying XIV but have no other friends with you, or perhaps just a couple, create a character on Exodus server. Myself and a group of both real life and long term wow friends created a Free Company (guild) aimed at enjoying just about everything the game has to offer. Because nearly all of us have played wow for 8+ years, you will be surrounded by gamers who are in touch with multiple games. Not to mention, you will be free of 'lol wow player' ridicule found just about everywhere else in the gaming realm. Be warned that while we are all adults, our vocabulary is sometimes off the deep end. While we are friendly, we would advise younger eyes to look away. If you have any questions, feel free to post here or shoot me a tell in game- character's name is Zaries Jagermeister. If I dont respond right away, hang in there. I work from home and will return shortly. Thank you for reading!Oktavia0 Sep 5, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 First-computer-build Conundrum So tonight I finished putting together my brand new computer. However, when I put in the power, nothing turned on. So I looked around online, and I saw one point in a checklist for such a problem is "Are all the standoffs installed?" I looked at my mobo and behold! A standoff was missing. Since everything was already all in, I figured I could careful just unscrew the other screws and lift the mobo while I put in the last standoff. And that's what I did. I first disconnected the power (or so I thought!), unscrewed the screws, lifted the motherboard.... AND IT TURNED ON! The fans all started spinning, the blue LED started shining, and it was a glorious sight. I was mortified though, and I quickly set the mobo down and turned off the power supply. After my confusion, I put in the last standoff and screwed everything back in. However, when I turned the power on again, nothing turned on. Any ideas? Possibly relevent info: Rosewill Challenger case Asrock 970 Extreme4 mobo GX 650 watt PS And the video card was NOT yet installed during any of this. TL;DR New computer doesnt work, turns on as Im lifting the mobo out of the case. When mobo is back in, nothing turns on.Aurune7 Sep 5, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 Kinda built my own gaming rig, Didn't work... I'd really like to play WoW on ultra, I can't seem to really play it at max without lagging. I semi-built this computer hoping to play some pretty hardcore games on it. But I'm left disappointed. Any suggestions on upgrades? Also I have two hard drives should I put WoW on my main drive or does it not mater if its accessing it from the slave/secondary drive. Sep 5, 2013 4770k temperature questions Haven't overclocked it, just stock clock speeds. Using Hyper 212 Evo cooler. It idles around 29-32C. I ran a Prime95 torture test with 8 threads, and the hottest temperature recorded (according to Core Temp) was 62C. Do these temperatures seem normal for this processor? I'm mainly just wanting to make sure I installed the heatsink properly. It was a royal pain to install.Vralok15 Sep 5, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 Wanting to try other mmorpgs I enjoy playing WoW, but for the price I'm paying every month I'm finding there to be a lot of bugs and glitches, there are often times I have to abandon a quest and restart it in order to finally complete it and move on. I try to deal with these annoyances the best and most patiently I can, but it does bug even me after a while. I don't expect such glitches from a game that's updated weekly and I pay for monthly. But my husband is even more frustrated than me, and he's thinking of cancelling his subscription to try something else. He said he'll continue playing this game if I really like it, but it's not as fun playing with him when he's frustrated by the many glitches and confusion that the game causes. So, I am looking to try another online multiplayer role playing game. Neither of us like player versus player, though my husband will do it from time to time. I hate PvPs. I hate it when in WoW I randomly get stuck in PvP for 5 minutes. I used to love playing Ultima Online, though I find looking back on it that the graphics are pretty horrible. I've also played Diablo, and I didn't mind that game, but I find I like a combination of dungeons and open world settings. It gets boring to go to the same looking dungeon again and again. My husband is also concerned that since the makers of WoW also make Diablo, it may be filled with a lot of glitches as well. I tried FF11 briefly, but I found it so confusing to a noob on start up, I was pretty lost. I've also heard that lately their servers are down. I've thought about Guild Wars, but a big part of the game is PvP. Age of Conan is another game I've heard some people say is good, but I've also heard it's very very combat heavy. I like professions and being able to take a break occasionally from fighting monsters to craft things, fish, cook, make jewlery, etc. I don't like being forced to have to do quests/dungeons with a certain number of people. I would like to solo it if I can, or be able to just have to partner up with one other person (ie, my husband). My husband finds the WoW map very hard to read and he and I are in agreement that it would be so much better if we could easily teleport to previously explored areas. Like in Skyrim. I like getting new abilities and seeing my character grow as they level. I like that little bit of excitement I get when I come across a rare armor or item from a seemingly mundane monster loot. So does anyone have any recommendations? - no/optional pvp - professions (ie, being able to take a break from monster killing) - good graphics - some level of customization would be nice, but not 100% necessarySchyler15 Sep 5, 2013
Sep 5, 2013 Purchasing Laptops Tips? Alright, first thing first (hopefully found the right topic thread haha) But going back, is there any tips, or laptops some of y'all use to play WoW? I normally play wow on a Mac, yea you can hate on me. But the thing is after going to work all day long, I'd love nothing more to kick my feet up watch tv and play wow on a laptop. Only problem is, i don't know much about computers, and all the numbers and x's in front of video cards and what not, and companies. I keep reading that laptops and wow don't "mix" only thing I'm interested in, is will it be able to play and not lag passed "low" settings. I'm open to any info or links or what not, since i'm just going in circles and I don't want to get something that'll jus crash and burn on day 1.Wolfofshadow11 Sep 5, 2013

Sep 5, 2013 Trackball Gaming Mouse? I was wondering if one such exists, I have been using a Microsoft one for what seems like the past decade and it's still as good as new, and I don't know if I could ever go back to a regular one. The problem is it only has 2 programmable keys, and I'd prefer something with around 10.Dooster5 Sep 5, 2013

Sep 5, 2013 For wow and future MMO's which would you do? I7-4770 @ stock + 16GB ram + GTX 760 or I5-3570K @ 4.2GHz + 8GB ram + GTX 770. I didn't realize but looking at the charts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmGWyAyO9mc The GTX 770 really outshines the 760. But i feel she will hit the graphical barrier far before an I5 will be useless.Stephí3 Sep 5, 2013

Sep 4, 2013 TESO Stress Test Friday Evening. I know it's not the full beta, but even getting a glimpse firsthand of the game is still pretty exciting. It's for a few hours, but that's enough time to play with some things. I have high hopes for TESO. If it doesn't turn out well, meh... just another game that could have been great. If it does, awesome! Still, a chance to experience it firsthand, for even a few hours, is pretty awesome.Sintestra2 Sep 4, 2013

Sep 4, 2013 Audio issues! Help! Hey! Just recently, infact maybe an hour or two ago. I ran into an audio issue, while playing. All sound from my computer stopped, after some fiddling I finally got sound back but there is quite a bit of 'static' not crackling just soft static; that remains there even when I mute my sound. I went into the audio controls (Via Adeck, can name motherboard if that helps.) I've tried uninstalling my drivers, and reinstalling them. But after I reinstall the noise is still there, perhaps I need to update. But I'm having trouble trying to find out which drivers I need. Also, It will no longer pick up sound from my microphone. I'm hoping it's a software issue over hardware. Can anyone help me?Lore1 Sep 4, 2013
