As a blood elf, you will get a quest to take you to Silvermoon City. You may have it already. Check to see if you have a quest called Special Delivery or something like that. You can find all of the amenities there (auction house, bank, profession trainers, etc). To get from Silvermoon to Ogrimmar, where more people hang out, you can ask a guard for directions to the Translocation Orb. This will teleport you to Undercity. From Undercity you can take a zeppelin to Ogrimmar. Again, you can ask a guard for directions. The zeppelins are outside Undercity in the small town of Brill.

WoW wasn't around when I was in college, but plenty of other distractions were. As others have said, it's all about balance. Get your work done first. Do things with your friends second. I haven't played any of my healers yet this expansion, but I had them all at 110 in Legion and have maxed them out every prior expansion. IMHO, the easiest are Druid = Shaman > Priest > Paladin > Monk. I love my priest, she's a lot of fun, but the changes to disc/holy have put her not at the top of my favorites the past two expacs. Yes, Garrison's weren't really useful in Legion either. They nerfed the gold rewards considerably when Legion was released. Same thing has happened for the Legion class missions now. The bags still make decent gold, as they are cheap to make with a level 3 garrison and the larger bags are considerably more expensive. Just like netherweave bags still sell because they're cheap.

Do also keep in mind that this is the beginning of a new expansion. A majority of players are still working on leveling or gearing their mains in current content. Not a lot of people are leveling low level characters. You'll see that change in a month or so when people are ready for something new and they start leveling allied race characters.That said, you have a few options.
