Recruit-A-Friend Help

I recruited a friend of mine about a week ago and just today we decided to upgrade his account with the new expansion-pack discounted battle-chest. On top of that, we chucked a month of game time on his account in hopes of it being linked. The problem with what's happened and why the account isn't properly linked lies within the fact that my friends account has two accounts on it, a 'Cataclysm' account and a 'Trial #2' account. It seems as if the RAF is sitting on the trial #2 account, and we've wasted money upgrading the 1st account to Cataclysm without realising that it's not the linked account. I thought the RAF would've been account wide in the first place.

Was just looking for some clarification and to see whether or not this issue could be resolved!
