About Unique raid buffs

Paladin
iv'e seen many blues saying that there aren't any unique raid buffs anymore but isn't Retribution Aura, why is this the only unique raid buff?
Because it's negligible for group comp. No one ever decided to bring a paladin because they needed retribution aura for their raid.
Ret Aura is actually not unique - thorns from druids also provide that functionality.
Thorns is not even close to Ret Aura anymore. Thorns has a short duration and a cooldown now.
And you don't need Ret aura when you're not actually fighting anything. Thorns still counts.
Except Ret Aura affects everyone and lasts for the duration of the fight as opposed to Thorns which can, at best, affect 1 target for 20 seconds out of every 45. Thorns =/= Ret Aura.

So? The spells work differently. That doesn't mean they're not analogous.

If you really want to gripe about unique raid buffs, why not Concentration Aura? Maybe Resistance Aura, since it gives not one, but THREE different resistances? Blessing of Might gives Attack Power AND mana regeneration?!?!

both are provided by totems.

Blessing of Might gives Attack Power AND mana regeneration?!?!

totem for the mana, unleashed rage for the AP

yes an enhancement shaman can bring all the pally buffs except for kings and ret aura
Also, note that when glyphed, Thorns gives 20 seconds uptime out of every 25. It's meant to act as a tanking buff, not a raid buff.

But they have to drop totems to do it! It doesn't move with the raid! Obviously pally auras are all OP.

Exactly. So Thorns is not a raid buff, Ret Aura is. And the topic is unique raid buffs.

Of which there are none, excluding Crusader Aura or Aspect of the Pack, which are either useless or a liability in combat.
So your argument is that Ret Aura is not a unique raid buff because a spell with 80% uptime if a druid decides to waste global cooldowns on it can simulate the effect for a single target?

I'm not saying Ret Aura is useful by any means, only that Ret Aura, while similar to Thorns in that they are both reflective damage buffs, are different.
