Soloing old content. Which spec?

Paladin
Hi all,

So, because i like it more in groups... i've swapped out Protection for Holy. However, i'm also a big fan of soloing old content.

Right now i'm making my way through Vanilla and BC raids, as Retribution, and having absolutely no trouble at all.

I was wondering: at what point is it better/more efficient to solo as Protection? Also, since it would only be swapped out on a short-term basis; would my Ret gear (plus 1h+shield) be sufficient for the soloing purposes?

Thanks!

It would have to be fight where you were actually worried about survival (and the increase damage reduction from active mitigation and self-healing would be needed) or you could do more damage through vengeance (unlikely).

Retribution Stat Priority

HIt/Exp to 7.5% > Haste > Mastery > Crit

Protection Stat Priority

Hit 7.5% > Expertise 15% > Haste > Mastery > Crit/Dodge/Parry

Short answer: Yes.
Thank you! :)

Just to mention that Expertise to 15% really only applies to current content mobs so in any old content (level 85 or below) the 7.5% should be sufficient to avoid any special attacks missing.
Really it's a case of survival vs dps (and vengeance generation affecting dps).

1) At what point is your ret spec not sufficient to survive the content?

2) And/Or At what point do the bosses generate sufficient damage output for vengeance to give you more DPS as prot than as Ret.

In old content, the first question still holds true for me right around Firelands/Dragonsoul (Holy going to Prot). I don't know that the second question still applies with 528-553 weapons readily available.
