Lords of War Animation

General Discussion
I love the Lords of War animation style, but I can't seem to find what it is called. Does anybody know what this style of animation is?
Slideshow?
I believe the term you're looking for is Machinima

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinima

the TL;DR version - using the game rending engine to create video content.
You talking about the paintings or varian and marrad?
I was wondering that too... it seems pretty popular lately. It looks easier to do than fulling rendering something in CGI or animating actual models since I'm guessing it's moving some illustrations around in flash and making them flow pretty.

I've been calling it storybook since it's like watching pictures come to life but I have no idea if it has an official industry term.

But its not(well, the actual stories about the Orc Lords isn't. the Varian/Maraad bits are).
It almost looks like a comic book put into a fancy slideshow.

...

Animu?
"Motion comic" is basically what you're looking for here.
I'd classify it as a animated visual novel. Yea that sounds pretentious but that's really the best way i can describe it. It's pictures that slightly move but the emphasis is on the style.

Very close! On our side, we're referring to the style as "motion story".
I love it. I'm really glad Blizz kept going with these sorts of stories after Burdens of Shaohao.

True.. its like faux machanima

And yes - the part with the parallax/"motion story" stuff. Definitely led to a nice outcome.

Its not entirely different from what was done during the animated parts of Cosmos if anybody caught that.

Good to know! It's a neat style and works really well for telling these stories.
It's essentially a mix of inspirational concept design / illustration / sequential arts.
Man if some of these scenes were made into paintings I would give a small fortune for them.
It reminds me of some of the credits from 300. And also some History channel documentaries with anims involving battles.
