Launcher won't launch WoW

Technical Support
When i open world of warcraft and press "play" the launcher disappears but WoW never opens. Everything is completely up to date and patched, i don't really want to uninstall and reinstall and download the patch again cause it took an entire day. Please help.
What security software do you use? Have you tried disabling it?

Also, for grins and giggles:

Download Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org. Install and update.

Start Malwarebytes and do a FULL system scan. Report back with the results, please.

It sounds like a firewall is blocking the game, what security programs are currently installed?

I have stupid @$$ norton, but it's disabled, should i just try and uninstall it? I'll also download that malware thing now and report back. ty

Norton is notorious for blocking the game. I'd uninstall it and install a lighter program like free Avast. To uninstall Norton properly you should use the Norton Removal Tool.

Here's the link for the Norton Removal Tool: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&selected_nav=&pvid=&docurl=20080828154508EN

When you click on the link scroll down to Step 2, click on the orange download button and save the download to the desktop. Once saved go ahead and run the program, and follow the on screen steps.

Here's a link for Avast if you want to check it out: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Malwarebytes found 6 infected items. All removed, including "backdoors / trojan"

@cargoninja It won't let me load up WoW with anything but the launcher.

@davidedl thank you for the nortan removal tool

Using Nortan removal tool now, restarting computer, and will post results.
Still won't launch after hitting play? Any other ideas?
Valundar

Go into the World of Warcraft folder and delete the following:

Launcher.exe
WoW.exe
WoW.tfil
WoW.mfil

Then run the repair utility. Once the repair utility is done run the launcher again. Remember if you are using Windows Vista/7, you should launch as admin by right clicking on the WoW icon and selecting "Run as admin".

Tried deleting and repairing, and using the launcher, it still doesn't work =[.
Valundar

Go into the WoW folder and instead of running the launcher, run the WoW.exe. Let me know what happens.

I reinstalled and re downloaded the patch and i'm still experiencing the same problem. I still get the same Wow.exe error too.
This is happening to me too. Soo many problems after getting Cata for me I think it's time to just give up on WoW. Good luck though.
When I hit play it does the Arrow with the Hour Glass next to it, but only for a second and then nothing happens.
Fixed : Download & or Update Direct X
I am having the same problems as Valundar. Only my launcher closes down without starting the game.
That's what mine did until i installed war3, and it made me install direct X, and then my Launcher.exe started to work
