Are in-game casino's legal?

Customer Support
I see people doing it and I told them they could get banned, and I get the response that only if you keep it out of the chat channels. Does this include yell or say? All I hear is people saying that you can get banned.

All i'm saying is that i'm sure that me and alot of people would like clarification on this, and I researched for an hour or two looking for a post and I couldn't find one.

Thanks, Korthok.
Running them is fine. Advertising for them is not.

You cannot advertise for them in any official Blizzard medium. That means any in-game chat channel (even whisper) and the forums are completely off-limits.

Running a casino is not a violation.

Advertising for said casino in any Chat channel, say, yell, Blizzard run forum, or Character/pet name is a violation.

Forgot to mention in game mail as well.
Ah ok, thanks! Guess some people on my server are gonna have some bans coming.
Correct!
Running them is fine. Advertising for them is not.

Please also keep in mind, Korthok, that these transactions are not supported. Participating in a casino is done so at the player's own discretion.

Should you notice any advertisements in game, feel free to report them via an in game petition.
Alright, will do! I see a bunch of them on Mannoroth.
Now that I see this post, I always wonder how you're supposed to get others to play in their gambling if you can't actually put it out that the player owns one?

What I mean is, suppose I choose to run a gambling service. How am I supposed to get my friends and guildies to play if I can't actually say "hey I have a gambling service" if it's against the rules? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of the gambling?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I lurk the CS forums often and I see gambling posts, but I never had the nerve to ask about this before.

Basically, what you do is use third-party sites and such. You can run an in-game lottery in a private chat channel, in-game, if you would like.

For instance, if you wanted to run a trivia contest with a buy-in (and gold prizes for winners), you could talk it up all you wanted on your guild forums (and your friends' forums). Then when the time came to run it, you could put up a post on those forums with the private channel to join, and have fun in-game - without bothering anyone else, or breaking Blizzard's policies.

Serefina - The goal of this policy may seem counterintuitive, but it's actually a really good way to keep these "casinos" or other forms of gambling away from people who aren't interested. If you advertise on, as Pahanda mentioned, guild forums, your guild vent channel, etc, then only the players that actively want to participate and join your private channel or vent channel to gamble will hear the gamble chatter.

So to sum it up, if you and your friends want to gamble, you can't solicit inside of WoW.
